Thanks for your advice. You guys confirmed what others have told me: be suspicious of unwanted services the dealer recommends and always go by what is recommended on the manual. I've seen some "oil and filter" change coupons that includes checking these other components for free. my H/L came with Bridgestone tires which i intend to change soon. Thanks again.
Never go to a dealer and have them do a "check-up". Go to your owner's manual and look at what it suggests at be done at certain mileage. Go to the dealer and ask for an oil change and for that item to be checked. They check the other stuff anyway! Also if they tell you to do other things like flush steering, change transmission fluid, etc. press them with questions. ... Read More
Do not even bother. I've never had one of those "checks" done on my 2002 Highlander Limited with 75K miles and all is good. IF you feel the need to get those items checked, go to a AAA auto service center and have an oil/filter change along with tire rotation and they will check everything else for free. Be prepared to have the cabin filter replaced (it is a tad of ... Read More
I recently purchased a used 2009 Toyota Highlander limited with 26000 miles. I currently have 27600 miles on it. I called local toyota dealership here in Plano, TX for a quote on getting the 30000-mile recommended service and was quoted $540. Recommended service at this mile include oil and filter change, air filter change, carbin filter change (dealer sells for about $17.00), then a bunch of check this and check that. ... Read More
I own a 2002 toyota highlander that burned excessive oil only at highway speed driving (~70mph or greater). It was burning 3 quarts every 300 miles at these speeds. It did not burn this oil at city driving speeds. The lack of oil did eventually damage my block. My toyota highlander only had 53K miles at the time in 2009 when this happened. Toyota "assisted me in my repairs" since it ... Read More
Hi all, just wanted to add my two cents. Recently purchased a used 2009 Toyota Highlander w/ the 2.7L engine and FWD. Basic car, mileage was 26.6K. With about 70% HWY, driving non-aggressively, and tires inflated to 32 psi, I am averaging 28.5 through 3 tanks of gas. I'm happy with that number. Thanks to everyone who responded. I have decided to go with the TOYO H/T and went to the dealer and ordered a pair last week. Appreciate your thoughts, but I spoke directly to Toyota USA HQ in California and have been told warranty won't be an issue. Also have an excellent working relationship with local dealer. Only time will tell if and when I have any issues, I guess.
I switched sizes, but I'm no longer under any warranty except maybe powertrain. My 2008 has over 60,000 mi.
I had the bridgestones and they were only sightly better than the Toyos. Check with Toyo...I heard of a tire recall recently, but didn't pay much attention since I don't own them. I switched to a Hankook and have been pleasantly surprised (considering I'm a huge Michellin fan). Good luck.
Don't mean to be "rude" to you post regarding different tire sizes you noted in your post and warranty issues. Give a call to Toyota and ask to speak with technical advisors on the matter. I put Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max on Highlander.Have 2000 miles ,so far very good-quiet,handling/traction fine.Mileage may have improved, but not noticeably.
I second the Toyo H/T's great tire and in my opinion should have been on the vehicle in the first place.
I went with Toyo H/T Open Country replacements and find them to be very good esp in the heavy snow we've had this winter up here in the Northern Plains. 13,000 miles on them and they look (still) brand new. 60,000 mile warranty, too. FWIW. I can't help you on getting a credit from TOYO.
My recommendation is the Hankook Ventus AS RH07, which IS available in the original 245/55r19 size, but is VERY difficult to find in that size. You won't go wrong with an upsize to 255/55r19 in the same tire, which is almost always readily available, especially through an online retailer such as Tire Rack. Here's some news about the 2010 Highlander prices. It looks like MSRP for the 2010 is also lower than the 2009. Another reason to wait! http://www.worktruckonline.com/News/Story/2009/08/Toyota-Announces-Pricing-on-20- - 10-Highlander-FJ-Cruiser-RAV4-and-Tacoma.aspx?interstitial=1
My dealer told me that invoice price doesn't always tell the story and doesn't always include everything. I took that with a grain of salt of course. Found another one in Chantilly, VA that is exactly what I want but they're selling it for a shade under 38K. That's a 09 Limited, 4WD, w/EVP#8. These are the same guys that offered ZERO off the MSRP last month. They must be doing ... Read More
You have to remember.. Toyota doesn't residualize all of their options, so the more expensive Highlander you choose, the more the lease is, even on an MSRP adjusted basis... The dealers can't even figure the residuals... that's why each unit has it's own dollar amount residual. Plus, if you are leasing in Texas, that is part of the Gulf States distributorship, which adds a whole lot of unresidualized costs to your ... Read More
I just ended a painful session attempting to lease this car in Plano, TX. Edmunds shows invoice amount for this car with $800 destination charge as $33,918 ($29,762 + 2,952 + 180 + 125 + 99 + 800). I offered $34,250 and they countered with ... Read More

Thanks for posting. I, too, got a similar deal on the same vehicle: $1100 under invoice. With my cash-for-clunkers, got out the door with tax, tag, title for just under $31K. I just have to ask: where did you get the deal? Did you use a car buying service and a pre=negotiated price? Did you have to wait for the vehicle? My experience was an absolute nightmare, even with a buying ... Read More
Your price is almost exactly the same as I paid for my HL Sport 4x4 V6, which has the same equipment packages. The only difference was that there was no Toyota rebate in my area(NY) when I bought it, and no C4C(but instead of trading in my old SUV, I was able to sell it privately so got the equivalent of the C4C amount). The state tax was different of course. ... Read More

Hey hooops. Toyota's lease program varies by region. You never mentioned what state you are in, so for now I will throw a dart at a map and assume that you live in the...New York region. Let me know if you live elsewhere. Hello a64marc. I have not seen Toyota's specific lease program for Southern California yet, but I suspect that Toyota Financial Services' buy rate lease money factor for the 2009 Highlander there is pretty close to zero. The 45% residual value that you mentioned is correct for a 36 month, 15,000 miles per year lease of an '09 Highlander Limited 2WD through TFS, however keep in mind that TFS calculates leases differently ... Dealers are not really sure when this release date will be. With this uncertain economy Toyota wants to make sure that ALL 2009 Highlanders are sold before they introduce the 2010's. Remember there are no major modification or changes on the 2010 - so they can afford to wait. Fred
I have an '08 Highlander Limited, so check to see if this helps. The trailer wiring connection is under the storage compartment at the left rear of the luggage compartment. Lift the rear two floor covers, then remove the fastener at the top of the left edge between the compartments. Also remove the two plastic nuts at the bottom of the storage compartment. The compartment should then lift out. There are ... Read More
