Just purchased this beautiful Highlander Sport model 4WD In pristine condition. The ride is so quiet and comfortable. It handles so well. Amazing visibility all the way around. I cant say enough! Highly recommend this Japanese crossover to anyone. We tried about 7 other makes, nothing like the Highlander Toyota really did an excellent job on this one. God Bless.

2008 and newer highlander V6 engine issues

All V6 2008 and newer highlanders will develop piston slap according to the dealer and factory rep I talked to. It causes the engine to sound like a diesel for the first 10minutes of driving. The dealership could not fix the issue and bought our vehicle back. I'm writing this to help educate people about this and hopefully save someone from making the same mistake I did, purchasing a certified highlander....

many have noted the tire issue - i had to order mine online and have them delivered to my home - $952. then i had to take them to a tire shop and pay to have them mounted. NEW shocker - at 63k miles and 3 years of age, my water pump died. the dealer says 3 days labor - 24 hours @ $90 hr + the part, $2400 more or less. supposedly they have to drop the engine and the transmission to get to the water pump on the side of the engine. NOT acceptable TOYOTA! what a worthless design. had i seen this coming i would not have bought the car and would have stuck with honda. my honda element has 240k - and only rountine service. the locks are wearing out - but not the engine...

We had our 2008 highlander for 8 yrs before trading it in for a 2016 highlander limited. The 2016 is really nice and has lots of safety features, but I miss the 2008 for the room and large glass area, both front and back that the 2008 had. Drove it for 160,000 miles with next to nothing going wrong and when going on long trips where traveling for eight to ten hrs. I never felt tired afterward. Large seats and very comfortable. I'm tall at six ft. five and just enjoyed this suv. No blind spots compared to so many suv's on the market and never replaced the original tires till it had eighty thousand miles. Just keep them rotated. Would have kept it longer, but we had the sport and wanted to update to the limited with the safety features that Toyota has. Just hope this new highlander treats me as well as the 2008 did.

soccer mom car carrying 2 of our kids & up to 3 others, has performed well in town. family vacation Denver to Southern California demonstrated excellent snow performance on non- stock tires (Dayton) which came with our 2nd hand purchase, we were on I-70 in a heavy Spring snow storm which closed the highway - we took a side road & re-joined without any drama. average 18 mpg in town, 22 highway.
