2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid SUV 4dr SUV (3.3L 6cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
Bought this car new in 2006, now have 168,000 miles. In well over 1 million miles of driving, this Highlander has been the most reliable, comfortable car I have ever owned. No repairs have been needed at all, just routine maintenance - oil changes every 10K miles with synthetic oil, also replaced the coolant, timing belt, and spark plugs at 90K. Car is still on the original brakes! On 3rd set of tires. This car has great acceleration, good mileage (average 25.5 MPG, and I tend to drive fast), great room for passengers or gear. AWD with stability control is great for low traction or slippery roads, although I don't offroad. I have the Limited version with navigation - nav system still good, but I had to buy a new disc on eBay to get updated roads. Car structure is still solid with no rattles. I don't see any new vehicles that compare with this one yet - the new Highlander is too big, and small SUVs are overstyled and lack room inside. I hope to keep this car for a few more years.

We bought new in 2007 with assurance that problems with hybrid battery were fixed. First hybrid battery went out at 51,000 miles. Replaced under warranty. Second hybrid battery went out at 141,000 and was told it would be a $6,400 repair bill.
Toyota customer service was useless, but dealer agreed to pay half of the cost as a "good will" gesture.
Very disappointed in having to spend $3000 to replace a part that is supposed to be a "lifetime of the vehicle" part - twice at less than half the expected lifetime of the vehicle!
Also disappointed at Toyota for not standing behind this product better.
Won't be buying another Toyota product, especially a hybrid!
Love this vehicle, except for cost of replacing hybrid battery to keep it running. Mileage is about 27 mpg on average. Not good enough to justify extra thousands of dollars in up-front cost, plus battery replacement, tho.
Otherwise, great vehicle.
If Toyota really wants to say the hybrid battery failure issue has been resolved, then they should step up and back that statement up with lifetime warranty, or at least warranty the $5000+ replacement battery for 100k miles as the original.
Also, never understood why the doors don't lock when put into gear like other vehicles. Asked dealer about this at first and was told that isn't possible.
My "cheap" 2003 Chevy Tahoe does it, tho, and has since the day I bought it.

We've owned our Highlander Hybrid for 4 generally trouble-free years. The hybrid batteries significantly help gasoline mileage for under 45 mph trips - which covers much of my wife's daily routine. But the added horsepower of the hybrid also improves acceleration, which makes driving it more fun. Great room inside. Ours is awd, and it performs good in snow and great on slippery roads. We just did the timing belt/water pump at 97k, along with a new radiator. Looking forward to many more years of great, reliable transportation.
The extremely solid build, the acceleration and overall quality and comfort of the interior. It is definitely not a cutting edge dash interface, but it is easy to use. Don't expect an adult to be comfortable in the third row, but for us, it does come in handy for the occasional time when we need to seat more than 5.
Dash lights could be improved so they don't project so brightly at night. Our starter battery has died once over four years, which isn't bad - but it is rather small for a car battery and a larger one might provide more assurance of reliability.
