2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser SUV 4dr SUV 4WD (4.0L 6cyl 5A)

Review

This is a head turning vehicle with lots of performance. The Special Edition TT is only available in Sandtone and it is sharp. The wheels really make it. Roof rack going on next week. It feels like it's very well constructed. It's not about luxury, it is about off road. I think it's got plenty of power. I have to admit, I do miss the heated seats.

Favorite Features

Design and performance

Suggested Improvements

More power outlets, option for navigation system and how about an arm rest on the passenger side?

Review

So far I am loving this vehicle. The FJ seems to be put together better and feels sturdier. Power is decent for the size, it will go when you need it to. Inside is decently comfortable. I didn't waste time on some options such as the power inverter, it barely powers a coffeemaker!

Favorite Features

Rugged, good build quality, engine is peppy for a 6 banger.

Suggested Improvements

Add concave mirrors to assist with lane changes so I don't need a vertebral fusion from constantly snapping my head back in fear of crushing a smart car.

Review

Here in the northern plains it's about extremes. Snow, cold, heat, wind, and distance. 40 miles to the nearest hospital. 60 miles to the nearest Wal-Mart. Getting there and back in the winter, can be a matter of survival. For fun times, and weekend exploring, the FJ will go most anywhere you ask it to. Although, not perfect, what it does do, it does very well. Comfortable on the highway, and competent when the going gets tough. Visibility and economy, are non-issues, given the overall package. Had 4 Jeeps over the last 30 years, and they never let me down. The FJ fits my needs, and I'm very happy with it.

Favorite Features

Affordability, utility, dependability, all terrain capability, fun to drive on and off road.

Suggested Improvements

part time 4WD option with the manual transmission

Review

It is an off road vehicle and better than a jeep. However, it has no visibility, like sitting in a bath tub. The cargo room and back seat is a joke. It is made well but a little outdated and the retro design at times is ugly. The engine is underpowered compared to an xterra and it is really a 2 seater vehicle. It is slow on the highway and the 4wheel drive system is horrible for the highway. I have my regrets.

Favorite Features

Good quality, feels sturdy and feels like it will hold up. Bumpers and exterior are sturdy.

Suggested Improvements

Do away with the swinging back hatch, worthless for putting cargo in. The back seat is worthless. Please get a more powerful engine.

Review

Since getting rid of my Wrangler (with the anticipation of a second child), I didn't have a great deal of choices for a good off-road SUV that would accommodate them. Enter the FJ and the 4- door Wrangler. I love the style of the Wrangler but that's where it ends. Safety #1, Power and Fuel Economy #2, Capabilites #3, and Amenities #4 all point toward the FJ. It wins in every category. The FJ is powerful, drives great, and is styled differently enough to stand out in a sea of 4-Runners and Xterras. I have two small girls and we get around in it great. True, it has less back seat room than my wife's RX 330 but it is adequate. What is given up in some area is more than made up for in others.

Favorite Features

Style, new color for 2010 (Army Green), rugged interior, command seating, back- up camera, parking sonar, audio system, hands-free Blue Tooth, and go-anywhere capabilities (4-wheel drive, locking rear diff). Transmission is dialed-in perfectly.

Suggested Improvements

More aux power outlets (Really Toyota? ONE outlet?). Lid on center console (for security).

Review

I absolutely love this truck. Styling is a matter of taste. The retro theme is appealing to me however, and I like having a truck that doesn't blend in. The engine is very powerful with a lot of low end torque, great exhaust note too. The suspension is made with off roading in mind and is a bit floaty with some body roll in the turns. Regardless though it is surprisingly fun to drive. Also very smooth/comfortable on the road/hwy. Was worried about wind noise w roof rack but no more than my Explorer had. Gas mileage avg 19 mpg mixed. Not bad considering: 4200 lbs, powerful engine, big tires, and styling sacrifices some aerodynamics. Back seat tight getting in/out but don't really ever use.

Favorite Features

Easy to clean interior, you never have to stress over getting it dirty. I can put the dogs in it after being in the ocean without the slightest reservation. 5 mins with a damp rag and it's like new. Great off road ability. Very comfortable/fun to drive. Rock solid feel. Excellent reliability.

Suggested Improvements

Don't mind use of hard plastics in a vehicle in this price range, but some soft touch materials would be nice in areas you come in contact with (ie drivers L arm rest in door). XM radio upgrade lacking for money. Have to hit button to toggle between artist/title/station, only shows 1st 10 characters.
