2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser SUV 4dr SUV 4WD (4.0L 6cyl 5A)

Review

Does it all - loves the mountain twisties - loves to play in the snow - loves to get dirty - loves the dirty dog. Sure, 40 mpg would be nice - so would a neck massage! It's quirky, it's fun, it's practical and, boy, is it yellow!

Favorite Features

Practicality, functionality and fun. Roof rack, rock rails, brush guard, all-terrain pkg and trd exhaust all well worth it.

Suggested Improvements

Seat warmers and glove-friendly radio knobs would be nice.

Review

The FJ is fantastic for what it is designed for: High ground clearance off-road and deep snow traversing. This is not a CR-V/Rav4Tucson or RX350. You have to give up some on road comfort for the off road abilities and, spec to spec, the FJ puts the Jeep to shame, especially when you consider the poor reliability of a Jeep. This is the perfect Zombie Apocalypse Survival vehicle. Drive it first for a while to see if you can handle the visibility and uniqueness of the cabin. If you can drive a panel van, the FJ is a piece of cake! Add the backup camera and rear sensors and its effect. For everyone? NOPE. This is not a Mall Assault Vehicle but one with a purpose. Drive it and you will see.

Favorite Features

Unique styling. Toyota quality. Decent mileage for vehicle type. Great off road, decent on road. FJammer stereo rocks. Lots of mods available. 2010 has 21 more horsepower! Great engine sound, even stock. Kids love the backseat, easy to clean interior. Nice big buttons for use with gloves on!

Suggested Improvements

A little dark inside, how about a sunroof option? Better handles for the rear doors so they can close easier for the backseat occupants. Glove box light would be nice. Blind spot mirrors as standard. Gas Tank larger than 19 gallons. Locking gas door.

Review

I am surprised these are not more popular. I traded in my 2005 4Runner and like the FJ better so far. The lack of gas mileage in my opinion is overrated...it's not too bad at around 19-20 mpg for me. The back seat room is decent and the blind spot isn't THAT big of a deal too me.

Favorite Features

The exterior throw-back look, great radio and the almost vertical wide windshield. The 3 windshield wipers are definitely unique. Drives and handles great. The roof rack looks cool.

Suggested Improvements

I think they should have made the back less rounded and more like a box. Similar to the old FJ 40. It would also be interesting to see a new FJ with a removeable top like the old FJ 40's as well. The major complaint is the cost. With any added features you are looking at around 30,000.

2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser SUV 4dr SUV 4WD (4.0L 6cyl 6M)

Review

I've driven the 2009 Jeep & xterra both 6mt and neither compare to my fj 6mt; because of the full-time 4x4 it accelerates & handles just like a Forester xti. In heavy and deep snow 8-12" it's amazing, no need to even touch the transfer shifter. Vsc and traction control are an excellent compliment to the full-time system. I love the waterproof interior. I'm 5,11 & often have my 6,2 and 6,4 friends seated behind me comfortably, though not for 3 people. Under 60 mph and I get 22 mpg, over 65 and it's about 16- 17 mpg highway. In my opinion the 6mt full 4x4 make it worth it's awkward looks, if you're thinking 5 at your better off with an xterra same difference more practical unless you like fj's looks

Favorite Features

Full-Time four wheel drive Fast as my brothers '05 (automatic) Acura TL Off road champ off the lot, fun all around on road and off road. Good gas mileage for what it is. Thank goodness it came with a manual transmission. Thanks for the perfect Green, not quite army its like an British Racing GR

Suggested Improvements

More DC outlets(at least 2) Fold flat back seats both directions (at least fully flat in one so I can nap) Stronger clutch Bring back the cable throttle(or eliminate that slight delay) Full time on all trannies (so that all Fj's can have amazing on-road handling) Allow back door open from inside
