To that we should add that after 2003, Echo was an order-only model (no standing stock on dealer lots) so sales plunged dramatically to very low levels. Also, production of the '05s ended very early and Yaris didn't arrive until mid-2006 as a 2007 model, so for about 18 months (from about January 2005 on until summer 2006) there was effectively no model below the Corolla at the Toyota store....

The OEM Toyota Radio has awesome sound. (The original in the 2000 Echo wasn't working when we bought it second hand. The one the auto recycler gave me turned out to be from a newer Celica (2005???). Anyway, it's in, works great and we never have had a battery drain problem.

Before pulling the radio out, try unseating and then reinserting the plugs on the back of the radio. I think you can get to it from the bottom OR, I've noticed the piece of plastic that forms the part of the dash coming out from the speedometer also easily pops up... maybe you can reach down from there to try the plugins. Getting the radio out was surprisingly easy. :) Not ... Read More

I own a 2005 Toyota Echo RS Hatchback with 53000km on it. purchased new and very satisfied with its fun value and practicality. After a recent service the dealer advised me that the clutch is slipping, particularly when passing at highway speeds, and that I should replace the clutch cover, clutch disc and release bearing. They had previously said the same thing at 35000km. I can't say that I have noticed ... Read More

I've just purchased a 1995-2005 Echo service manual on a CD in pdf format that covers just about everything. I got this from a seller in Australia for 7 dollars on e-Bay. The CD has the Toyota logo and is copywrited by Toyota Japan so it's either an original or an excellent pirate copy. It covers all the mechanical and electrical components of the car and includes component drawings and might ... Read More

In April of 2005 I had to replace Front Rotors on my 2002 Echo at 29,000km at a cost of $112 labor and $110 Parts They were rusted out and could not be machined. I contacted Toyota Canada and after review they sent me a $200 voucher. I now have a 2005 Echo that required front pads, shims, machining of rotors(caught in time), and caliper servicing at 19,360 km (16 months) ... Read More

Nippononly, Echo LOL. I never considered a Echo, even the new restyled ones still look funky. There are all sorts of issues from handling, to display layout, etc ; there is a reason why Toyota is dropping the Echo. A good Toyota choice would be the 5-speed Corolla CE or the snazzy looking S model. Another choice would be the 5-speed Scion xA or xB. I liked the 2005 Honda Civic ... Read More

Thanks very much for the answer. Unfortunately the 2005 air filter box has 2 electrical clips , the air intake hose , and it appears that you must take all this stuff off as well as the intake hose . the box has 2 clips and a rear hinge. I think the 1.5 in my 2005 is a little different than the 2001. The other thing is that a standard 5/8 ... Read More

I agree with you. I love Toyotas, I have a 2005 Sienna and had a 2002 before this one. I only traded my up on my 2002 because I had it for 3 years in Germany running 100 mph consistently and had 65,000 miles on it. (NO problems by the way, routine maintenance only) I wanted a new one to keep forever and I got a really good deal. I had ... Read More

The amount of money you will save in gas between the Aveo and the Echo amounts to about $150 a year (assuming $2.50/gallon, and 15,000 miles a year). Depending how much you paid for the Echo, it may never make a difference. That said, the Echo is reportedly much faster, and is a Toyota. However, I am willing to bet that the $8500 I paid for my 2004 Aveo Base (2005 ... Read More

I've had my 2005 echo for 6 weeks now and am sure it was the right choice. It's interesting the weird comments I have received from friends and co-workers about this car. Many consider it to be a piece of junk or ridiculously small. Some have wondered why I didn't spend more and get something better like a Ford or GM that is heavily discounted with incentives. I picked up my 2005 Echo four door automatic last week. It's a big change for me. First new car and first import. I have usually bought cheap used cars and kept fixing them until the junkyard beckons. I wanted something eonomical, reliable and simple to maintain that didn't leave fluids all over the driveway. More to talk about at a later date. thanks Bryan

Its availible for 2005, however I couldnt buy one at either of my local NJ toyota dealers who also sell the Scion. Whether or not it will continue to be availible in 2006 is a good question. I think were lucky it wasnt discontinued in 2005.

I encourage everyone that wants to see the Echo hatchback come to the U.S. to do likewise. Email link is under: Search/Help - FAQs - Email Toyota.
