I assume that when you state"a loud gearside" you mean a loud noise when doing this shifting. The easiest way to check if you lost transmission fluid would be to follow the cars manual on how to do this by using the dip stick under the hood. If it is the case that you are low on fluid perhaps you blew a seal on the transmission that needs to be replaced. ... Read More

This very well may be true. Ninth generation Corolla debuted in Jan. 2002 as a 2003 model and remained being built through Nov./Dec. 2007. as 2008 model year. The ninth generation Corolla lasted for six years rather than the typical 5-year cycle. Toyota could decide to keep the 10th generation around for 6 years as well. There are rumors out there that also say Toyota is delaying the introduction of the ... Read More

In November 2004 my beloved 95 Toyota Tercel was smashed up in a collision. 10 years that car never gave me a lick of trouble. So when everything was settled in December I went searching for a new car. First choice: Toyota, second choice Honda. I didn't want a new car, wanted a slightly used one (as in let someone else take the big depreciation hit). All the dealerships in my ... Read More

You raise a very good point and I completely agree with you. I think Toyota is very concerned about the so called steering issues with the Corolla. It seems as though nothing came out of the "investigation" opened in February by NHTSA. Obviously there isn't a recall for this issue that owners complain about with the "wandering" of the vehicle while driving. I still assume (if the 2011 Corolla comes out ... Read More

Also, Honda is less paternalistic and allows you to turn off traction/stability control programs, which Toyota is loathe to do. I'm not sure that statement is entirely fair. The 2009 Corolla allows traction control to be disabled. My 2002 Sienna has a switch to kill it too.

Graduate... you and I apparently think alike. I don't necessarily equate power with sport though. A Cadillac DTS is a fast car (291hp), but its not sporty/fun. The current Corolla debuted for the 2003 MY so with Toyota's typical five-year cycle, no new Corolla would be expected until the 2008 MY. Does anyone know when the 2008 Toyota Corolla is supposed to come out. Because in my mind it is better to wait for the next generation Corolla to come out. Because the current Corolla has been out since Feb 2002.
So far, I filled up 3 times in the 3 weeks that I have the 2007 LE. 2/3's highway miles and 1/3 city. Averaging 31 MPG. Hope to do a little better soon. It's got 900 miles on it.
Corolla doesn't have ABS standard because that was unusual in the economy sedan class way back in 2002 when the current Corolla debuted. That's really an irrelevant point because if Toyota can fit ABS to some Corollas they could fit it to all. It's a question of cost and perception in the market place. If nobody bought Corollas without ABS you can be sure that they would all appear with ABS. ... Read More

I am not saying that Corolla has sunk into uncompetitive dregs. But the MMC last year, if that is what it was (I guess it was, since there is nothing now) was pretty minor. Always take your car to Toyota Dealership. I have a 2002 Corolla, $24.00 per regular oil change at Kearny Mesa Toyota San Diego! Life is Blissful
Hi All: ___I have not seen anyone post in regards to finding original 03 Corolla LE aluminum wheel style that were initially available but appear to have been changed as of ~ July, 2002 on forward. You can see the older and more desirable IMO aluminum wheels here: http://www.toyota.com/html/shop/vehicles/corolla/index.html with the latest offerings in the options and accessories section here: http://www.toyota.com/html/shop/vehicles/corolla/options/corolla_options.html ___I am interested in possibly purchasing 4 of the older ... I have actually heard of someone who had a sludgy Corolla here in the Toronto area, a 1998 model actually (same generation as my 2002) and he was told by the mechanic that he is not the first. Toyota would not help him since it was just out of warrantee, he bought second hand and did not have maintenance records. The sludging in the Corolla is extremely rare unlike the one ... Read More
I own a 2003 Toyota Corolla LE that I purchased in May 2002. About six weeks ago, I was on my way home from work when I braked to go around a corner and I heard this noise that can best be described as a metal-on-metal banging sound when I applied the brakes -- whether it was to go around a corner or to stop for a traffic light. I got ... Read More
Good point !! My son has a 2002 Celica with many options including the action package, which includes the different bumpers, very high spoiler and low body side panels and I think he paid around 22k. I do drive his Celica occasionally and for the performance and cool appearance of his car I would most definetely take the Celica over a yet to be made Corolla XLE. This coming from a current 2 ... $15,200 (less tax and tags) for an '03 Corolla LE (Japan made with "J" VIN number), purchased at C. F. Schwartz Toyota, Dover, Delaware, Oct 28. 2002. I traded in an '01 Corolla LE 5-speed with just over 20,000 miles on it, getting about a 9,275 trade-in allowance. I traded because I wanted the 03's bigger interior, 15" wheels, more horsepower, and I wanted an automatic this time (got tired of ... Read More
I had this in the Pontiac Vibe section... The dealer also showed me the invoice sheet which had the "edmunds" invoice then added 1% advertising and about another 1% for finance or something...then the bottom listed the 3% holdback along with some finance stuff. I am guessing that the dealership's Gross Margin on my deal was about $800. Here's my other post, copied and pasted... I wanted a cheap afford able ... Read More
Yeah, what can we do? I fit just fine in the 98-02 Corollas, and when I first read the specs. the new one is supposed to be bigger and the leg room (numbers wise) is as good if not better than the old gen. I think there's got to be a way to remove that stupid foot rest. But I am now more likely to look towards a Camry even though ... Read More
I'm looking to replace the steering wheel on my '02 Corolla LE. I originally thought of putting in the steering wheel of same year S version (it looks nicer and is leather-wrapped), but my Toyota dealer told me it wasn't possible (he didn't look like he knew what he was talking about, though!) The standard steering wheel on my Corolla is sooo boring and I'd like to know what others here ... Read More
This reminds me of the person on another message board who complained that she bought a 2002 Corolla in November of 2001, only for the 2003 to come out two months later. She wanted to sue Toyota! hahaha
I purchased a 2002 Corolla in October 2001. The car now has 7400 miles on it and is driven primarily in city traffic. I had my tires rotated (Goodyear Integrity tires) for the first time at the end of June and noticed that the tires that were on the front (now on the rear) show definite wear on the outside edges. The inside edges appear fine. Toyota recommends 30 psi for ... Read More
Hi, It is my first time to buy a car. So a little scared. I live in Detroit. I am I'm interested in 2002 Honda Civic EX and 2003 Toyoda Corolla CE. Which one will be fit for the snow weather in Detroit? I usually use my car to commute to work and occasionally drive 4 hours to Chicago on holiday. Could anybody recommend me which one I should buy? I have to say, I'm very surprised by some of the nitpicky comments made on the ratings page for the 2003 Corolla. How much exactly should we expect from an economy car? I was amazed at the standard features of the 2003 and impressed by the ride as well. I also think the 2002 Civic is a great car, but ultimately went with the Corolla because my wife and I have ... On some thread at one time there was an argument about the best selling car in the world. I believe it was between the Beetle and the Corolla and now there is more support of the Corolla's crown. Caranddriver.com's article: http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caranddriver/dai/2002/june/20020626_dai_golf.xml The Golf recently passed the Beetle has VW's best selling automobile. "Despite its huge sales, the Golf is still behind the all-time best-seller, the Toyota Corolla, which was launched in ... Read More
