You might want to follow this link to read all of the TSB's for the 2004 Toyota Corolla and then take it to your dealer and ask him about what they are doing about the know problem? Could it be that the original sparg plugs have reached the end of their life? The OEM plugs in the 2001 are iridium plugs and can last up to 120,000 miles. If they are double platinum plugs they can last up to 60,000 miles. I would suggest starting with a sparg plug check. Just remove one and see what the tip looks like. I have noticed the following issue with my car (Corolla 2001 - 90 K) in last few months. If I don't idle the car and start driving, car would start choking and then turn off. Well unfortunately it's only available at a Toyota Dealership, it's what is in your car right now. A 50/50 mixture of quality Prestone Coolant would be my second choice. Yes it's just fine to add a different quality coolant (formulated for todays cars) to your existing Toyota coolant. I have a 2001 corolla s and had the tension pulley go bad it would rattle when in gear during certain rpm ranges so I bought a new pulley with the assembly from toyota and within a year it also went bad.
