Toyota Celica Engine Problems

  • Celica 2001

    Written by: 01celica1 on Mar 30, 2010 8:41:52 AM

I have a 2001 Celica and there has been nothing but problems with it. I have approximately 75,000 miles on it, not very much. Just before the 5 yr. warranty was up, it started leaking oil and ultimately the entire engine was replaced. I have had to replace the clutch twice.......have been driving stick shifts since 1977 and never had to replace a clutch. I have also replaced 2 serpentine belts. ... Read More

Written by: okcyclesooner on Jan 25, 2009 8:46:37 PM

Just purchased an 01 Celica for my daughter. The car's headlights, on low beam, are very weak, partially because they are not aimed very well. How do you aim the lamps, and is there a way to brighten the light coming out on low beam? On high beams the road is well lit.

Written by: allsaints on Dec 4, 2007 5:08:03 AM

I have a 2001 Toyota Celica. Since September there has been a clunking sound when driving in low gear and also whilst changing gear. I took it to my Toyota dealer and a mechanic who has driven the car heard the noise himself but says he cannot find anything wrong. Basically I have been told that there is nothing about to fall off, nothing loose so they can't do anything about ... Read More

I used to have a 89' Honda Predule. good engine. It pickup so fast when I accelerated to merge into highway. Not like now, I have to step very very hard on gas, never done that on my ... Read More

Not sure if anyone out there can help me out with this or not, but I'm trying to understand what's happened to my 2001 Celica GT the last couple of days. Here's the rundown, I noticed the car needed an oil change, so yesterday, against my better judgement, I went to one of those franchise oil-change places. So last night, about 8-10 hours after I'd had my oil changed, by oil ... Read More

I've had my '01 Celica GT for 3 years now, bought new off the lot. I love the dependability of this car (this is my first Toyota) EXCEPT I find this car very dangerous in heavy rains and snow. It is blown around easily and I feel as if I have no traction. I was never "scared" to drive in inclement weather before and now I find myself white-knuckling the steering ... Read More

I don't always see it right after a rain storm. Anybody have same problem? I would appreciate any advice you all can offer.

dg1, Sorry to hear about your bad experience. However, I think it's fair to say that yours was an anomaly. Statistically, most consumer sources list the celica as highly reliable. Sounds like you A) were just really unlucky and B) possibly got stuck with a really sucky or incompetent dealership. Did you look into your state's lemon laws? I am quite happy with my 2000 GT-S (almost 36,000 miles). Its looks ... Read More

I put together a summary of all repairs done on my 2001 Celica GT in the past 2 years to get a feel for my cars overall quality. Here are my surprising results. My car has been in the shop for ... I'm hoping someone that visits these boards can give me some insight on valves. I have a 2001 Toyota Celica GT with 35k miles on it. The valves are adjusted using shims. In the morning when cold, the valves are pretty noisy before the engine warms up. Once warm, the engine sounds ok. (BOOMN29 "Both 6-speeds, the same exact foot peddles, the dash (odometer and speedometer) are EXACTLY alike")That just blew my mind!! First of all the dashes & gauges look nothing alike. • seat covers for Celica GT

    Written by: cat37 on Jan 13, 2002 3:08:30 PM

Does anyone know of any seat covers that actually fit the front seats of a 2001 Celica GT? Previous experience with other cars I have owned resulted in seat covers that did not fit. Toyota says they don't make them for the Celica. I would like to keep the seats in good condition. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Amazing mileage

Written by: marktest on Jul 17, 2001 5:21:08 PM

Some of the mileage figures talked about seem amazing or questionable. Grand Marquis' with 28 mpg on the highway, my brother's 2001 Crown Vic gets 21 highway. Celica GTS' getting high 20's - is that on the highway? My GTS Auto only gets 24 around town, 28 highway. I regret not getting the GT for the better mileage and 20% lower fuel cost, but some of the figures stated here seem ... Read More

If you are looking for a Celica GTS 6spd, you are out of luck. Toyota stopped making the 6spd version for the rest of the 2001 model year. I tried to find one, and after 1 1/2 month of searching (including help from carsdirect.com).. I gave up. Celica is small, with the baby on the way.. you are probably better off getting something that is more practical. Like corolla or such. ... Read More

The visibilty for lane changes is certainly limited, but between adjusting the mirrors out and just getting used to it I don't have any serious problems anymore. I'm planning to buy a new celica gts very soon. I made the mistake of telling my mother and she insists I check out the Volvo s-40s, since the price is not markedly different. I still see myself as more of a celica person, but my mom points out that I am aging rapidly (40s) and should be safety conscious. So, I went to the s-40 board in townhall and immediately ... After trying both cars, comparing quality, doing some research on the internet, comparing weight/HP, looks, and everything else. I decided for the Eclipse 2001 GS with Sportronic. I have been to three dealerships and they all have a dealer add on for a Toyota Protection Package (paint protect ant, fabric protect ant and undercoating) for $619.
