1992 Toyota GT review by RJW

1992 Toyota Celica GT 2dr Hatchback

Review

I have had a vast range of automobiles from SAABS, Jaguar, Benz, BMW, plus, loads of American cars. This Celica GT ceases to amaze me as how well it is build. GREAT suspension...solid car...feels like a Benz. Fast yet great gas mileage. Never had to replace anything other than convert the air conditioning system over. VERY reliable car. Even bets out my BMW...325i for reliability. Fun to drive. With the right tires...it loves is incrediable in the curves. Wish a few US companies would build them like this. 12 years old and going STRONG.

Poor Man's Exotic

1992 Toyota Celica All-Trac 2dr Hatchback AWD

Review

I bought my current All-Trac Celica Turbo brand new. It is still brand new. Well, I had to change the front wheel hubs and bearings, one caliper, the flex pipe, use only sythetic fluids. Always garaged. Great performance when you keep revs over 3000 rpm. I put in an oversized flex pipe(old one wore out), made the exhaust louder. Amazing. A/C never charged, still works like new. Stereo is still great after some parts in it were replaced by a QUITE reputable stereo repair place. I saw the car in all the magazines at the time, went for a test drive, and ordered it immediately. Thank you Toyota, I am a common man that owns an exotic.

First, she is incredibly reliable and durable. Few cars hold together this well mechanically and cosmetically after 150,000 miles and 10 years of duty. Second, she is a joy to drive. At work I drive brand new cars all day and I still look forward to the drive home in my Celica. That says a lot. Finally, cost of ownership is very low. Unlike my first car (80'bmw 320i) parts are easy to find and I can get service done almost anywhere. Take your time and find one that was well taken care of and your reward will be a fun-to-drive, dependable car.

Worth Every Penny

Purchased new; Have kept up on all maintenance and only 2 problems in 11 years: approx 1995 AC recall (covered by Toyota) and the mechanism in trunk which allows it to remain in the open position broke (@ 110,000mi) The result was $1,100 in repair costs because it caused the hinge to break and it bent the frame of the trunk itself. Otherwise, GREAT CAR! I commute over 50 mi/day and am completely confident in this vehichle.

1992 Toyota Celica GT-S 2dr Hatchback

Review

Extremely reliable...I have driven it for 4 years with just tune ups. 101,000 miles on it, and runs just like new. Still looks stylish, and it is still fun to drive... Cons: Sits very low to the ground... almost impossible not to scrape the front underbelly. The plastic grill can easily break from this. Dings very easily around the bumper. If you don't like lowering yourself into a bucket seat that sits a couple feet off the ground, this is not the car for you. Seats only two comfortably. High RPMs on the freeway. (turn radio up to tune that out) However, if you want a reliable old car...this is the one.

Subaru WRX Who?

Review

Toyota's 4WD turbocharged Celica was already pumping out 200hp stock and winning World Rally Championships in the early 90's when Subaru's were still being breast-fed. The extremely potent 3SGTE engine is still winning racing championships in Japan and Europe, where it is the 4-cyl. engine of choice for Toyota tuners. If you are lucky to own one, this powerful, rare and refined coupe will only increase in value. Sorry, but you cannot gauge this particular model's price based on Edmund's or Kelley's pricing. Try multiplying the configured price by at least a factor of 1.5, then start from there.
