Review

I bought my 1999 SLE in 2004 with 68k on it. Last night (6/25/09), I finally traded it in as it approached 149k. In the time I had it, I did a tune-up at 90k (more of a preventative thing). At that time, one O2 sensor went out and a little after that I had to replace the front brake rotors. Otherwise, it was simply regular maintenance. The styling held up over time and it was a very comfortable car. It was no hot rod, but it was never meant to be. I really enjoyed owning the car and only traded it because I wanted a hatchback.

Review

I've owned 15 cars in my life, always changing every 2 years because I was not satisfied. That is until I bought my 1999 Toyota Solara SLE V6. I've found no need to get rid it it. After 10 years, it is perfect. Never in my life have I see a better built car, inside and out than the Solara. Sadly Toyota does not know a good thing when it see it. They will be sorry for the cancellation of the Solara. I intended to repeat buy Solara for life. It is not likely I will buy any other Toyota. The Solara was the only one with class and style. When I go away for vacation, I consider driving my Solara to be part of the vacation...part of the pleasure. Never have I driven a more superb vehicle.

Favorite Features

The Leather, The dash quality..The wood trim which Toyota is too cheap to install in all its vehicles. The moon roof. EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING inside and out.

Suggested Improvements

None. The Solara is an anomaly of perfection, never again to be seen.

Review

I purchased my Solara about five years ago when it had 74,000 miles on it. The timing belt/water pump had just been replaced. Since then I have put an additional 70,000 mile on it and have only changed the oil and filter, the front struts and strut bearings, and one set of tires. Brakes have over 70K on them and are still not totally worn out. This cars continues to amaze me with the build quality. I have owned 6 Hondas and 4 other Toyotas and this car is the best by far. Since it is coming up on ten years old, I want to replace it, but cannot justify that when the car runs as well as it does. Averages about 20mpg in the city and 25-27 on the highway.

Favorite Features

Reliability, looks... still looks great and not at all dated for a 10 yr old car. Interior layout. Seats are much larger and more comfortable than Hondas. Huge trunk. 200 hp and good gas mileage, runs on 87 octane. Big sunroof.

Suggested Improvements

Too dark of an interior. Lack of manual transmission on V6 models.

Review

I bought this car with 194,000 miles on it. I was nervous because of the high mileage. I had the car checked out and the mechanic offered to buy the car from me! I knew I had a winner! I have taken many road trips and it is the car everyone wants to ride in when my friends and I go anywhere. I will be sad when it dies. Which I don't see happening anytime soon. I have had to have the air conditioning redone once and now have 214,000 miles on my baby. I get about 27 mpg (all city miles) and couldn't be happier with the power/fuel economy combo.

Favorite Features

Sound system. Roominess. Smooth ride. Huge trunk. Great power. Fuel efficiency.

Suggested Improvements

Better CD player, mine is dead and I haven't gotten it fixed yet. Interior light when door opens.
