2012 Toyota Camry XLE 4dr Sedan (2.5L 4cyl 6A)
Review
After 600 miles, we are very happy with this Camry XLE, 2.5L 4 cylinder. This was our first Toyota, previously we had Hondas. We compared the Accord and Sonata and found them to be noisier and a little harder ride though both are more sporty. We specified cloths seats, and not leather, due to the hot Florida climate. We have the Convenience package, floor mats, and rear spoiler. The car is very quiet at highway speeds and the 4 cylinder engine has more than ample power. We are averaging 26 MPG city. The standard stereo sounds really nice within this quiet interior. We like the numerous chrome accents and with the spoiler, looks cool! This is a lot of car for the money, we recommend it!
Favorite Features
The interior is also well done and we appreciate the stitching across the front dashboard as well as the A/C vents for rear seat passengers. All 4 doors are easy to get in and out of and are a bit higher than some of the low-slung competitors like the Sonata; when we have to buckle our toddler into her car seat, this design feature is appreciated along with the rear side airbags. We enjoy all the options included in the Convenience package and recommend it for the XLE I-4 Camry. It was difficult for us to justify the high price of the factory GPS system and our portable Garmin with free lifetime upgrades works just fine. There are 2 console DC adapters for plug in options. Well done Camry!
Suggested Improvements
I was disappointed I could not order the $500 blind spot monitors from the factory without first ordering the upgraded stereo and built-in GPS for $1700. Come on Toytota: this is a safety feature that should be able to be ordered alone if desired. One final feature that took us some extra attention to use properly is the automatic transmission, Toyota calls it an automatic, shiftable six speed transmission and we are new to Toyotas. Be sure you are putting the car in Drive and not one of the shiftable gears, just slightly further to the left of the Drive position. It is well marked on the left side of the driver’s side display, “D” is for drive or you will see an actual gear number .
