Just got a 2012 Camry and the engine has no exhaust manifold cover. In fact, none of them at the dealership had covers. The first explanation given by a salesman was that Toyota stopped using the covers because they rattled over time. This I didn't buy so I asked one of the head mechanics. He said they originally had covers but the new up-stream O2 sensor was longer than the original ... Read More

2. I read mpg is now 4 mpg more vs gen 5 overall, which at $3.6 per gallon gas, would be approx. $2,300 for 100,000 miles. Pretty significant. 3. The engine was a 2.4L up through 2009. In 2010, it went to a completely different 2.5L. I have driven both A LOT- the 2.5L is much better. For the 2012, they made minor changes to get a bit better mpg. But ... Read More

Part of the calculation of your lease payment included a pre-determined residual amount for the car. It should be right on the first page of your lease paperwork. That is the rule that Toyota will follow. Whatever is in your contract. Edmunds opinion won't make any difference. Most of the time, when you get a really low lease payment, the residual amount is unattractive. regards, kyfdx

Like my previous post on my 07 Camry. Struts are DEFECTIVE. After i settled with Toyota. I had replaced my 2 front struts by myself with help from a mechanic friend, and it's not leaking anymore. My 2007 XLE Camary needed all four struts replaced. They started leaking at about 36,000 miles. I also had to replace a external oil hose. Thanks, Keith. (I see Willard agrees that your answer hits the nail on the head.) It was EXACTLY that kind of scenario or the equally or even MORE dangerous one of slowing down to make a turn across a line of ONCOMING traffic at an intersection that led me to confronting my dealer about the dangers of the DBW in the first place. Here in Canada.....at least here in St. Catharines ... Read More
"..real driving scenario.." The post following yours does a very good job of that. Or else you could find Toyota/etc's own examples, three of them, as stated in the TSB released in the of 2003 as applies to that year's Camry.
I don't think planetary gear system automatics have been used since the demise of the GM 4-speed Hydramatic back around 1964, with the notable exception of hybrid-electric cars like the Toyota Prius. Just a suggestion for Mr. West: Please avoid obscure abbreviations and all caps, and try to explain things in a way a non-engineer can understand.
>Whereas Ford, with the new Edge, simply adopted a variable displacement ATF oil pump, low volume for HIGH engine revs and incrementally higher, selective volume, for lower engine revs. That's much more effective from an engineering standpoint, but it probably costs more than covering up a shift lag by changing the engine control in the software. What I think you're saying is the complaints about a long shift lag when someone ... Read More
Hi Willard: Interesting theory you have there. (Wondering where it was published initially. Was it by Toyota, or a third party engineering journal?) I'm sorry, but I don't understand exactly the meaning of your sentence, "prevent premature failures of the U140E transaxle when a downshift could not be accomplished in the time allotted, driver expectation of downshift "time". " The part that confuses me, I guess, is the reference to the ... Read More
"...why does Toyota(/etc) have to change stuff that does not need change?.." While there are some very definite advantages to DBW, some HIGHLY advantagous, Toyota/etc's base reason for adopting DBW fleet wide had its origins in a design flaw in the U140E/F ("F" = F/awd) transaxle developed initially for the RX300. Since Toyota/etc wanted to adopt (~2002) the more fuel efficient U140E across the fleet something had to be done to ... Read More
Hi, I have a 2009 Toyota Camry LE. I am going on a long vacation and i would need to leave the car for around 45 days at a airport parking. Is it ok to leave the car for such a long time. Will it have any effects on the tires, batteries, engine etc? Thanks,
What is your opinion of this drive by wire system? I have had Toyotas in 1995 and 1998 with no problems regarding computers affecting acceleration or smooth shifting as I guess they had none. Cars worked fine with good gas mileage. Computer stuff came and had to get my 07 re-calibrated. The cars of the 90's worked fine--why does Toyota have to change stuff that does not need changed? I see ... Read More
DETROIT, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) has issued a string of recalls covering more than 8.5 million vehicles worldwide including its flagship Camry sedan and the Prius hybrid. Following are milestones leading to the largest recall in Toyota's history, a series of events that has hit the automaker's reputation and results: * 2000: Toyota launches program known as "Construction of Cost Competitiveness for the 21st Century" with the ... By DAVE CARPENTER, AP Personal Finance Writer Dave Carpenter CHICAGO – Toyota owners looking to trade in their cars have little reason to sing the carmaker's old ad slogan, "I love what you do for me — Toyota!" Recalls and a bungled response to safety questions are putting a dent in the resale values of their cars. For years, Toyotas have been praised both for high quality and maintaining their worth. ... "..have no inherent dangers.." But RWD and R/awd have a definite advantage when it comes to these Toyota/etc run-a-way engine episodes. With RWD the brakes will bring the front wheels, and the car, to a full and complete stop, even with the rear wheels spinning madly due to the floor mat,.....no correct that....the stuck gas pedal....no, correct that...the faulty firmware.....
Inquiries have halted, says Corolla seller Resale values of recalled vehicles drop amid worries Many Toyota owners who are trying to sell their cars may have to drop their asking prices. Resale values for Toyotas that have been recalled fell by as much as 3% this week, or about $450 on a car valued at $15,000, according to Kelley Blue Book. They could fall further next week if Toyota's quality issues ... Read More
I think the important thing here is that Toyota is not building vehicles that deliver consistent results that can be "tracked." I would sure like to know why my 09LE V6 is FLAWLESS. No rattles, no wind noise, no sudden acceleration, delivers 36 mpg highway. I did change out the tires and wheels for 17" SE (albeit Avalon 9 spoke) style wheels when the original equipment Bridgestone 16 inch tires on ... Read More
Someone stole the engine or the wheels? No, the 2009 Camry just has this little problem...it likes to suddenly accelerate on its on and currently my dealership doesn't have the parts. To make matters worse, interest in the Camry has plummeted so no one would buy it and Toyota still cannot decide what is the true underlining problem. Very poor quality Toyota!
I hate to have to admit it, but I have a 2009 Toyota Camry sitting in my garage that has not moved since January. Someone stole the engine or the wheels?
2009 Toyota Corolla (myself) and a 2000 Lexus RX300 ( wifes) and still driving it every day concerned yes scared no. I have been telling people that if i didn't own a Toyota the right time to buy is coming. When they get this resolved the HOT deals will come out to get customers back. I hate to have to admit it, but I have a 2009 Toyota Camry sitting in my garage that has not moved since January. I am still hoping Toyota will be required to offer a buy-back. I cannot even sell it outright without taking a major loss. My first and last Toyota...BIG mistake I made. And you?
Get your facts right before you say that Honda is better than Toyota. Oh, I have as I have owned both. Never before though have I owned a vehicle that has involved a recall for millions of consumers and the automaker being forced to stop selling them; very disappointing for my 2009 Camry. In addition, based on the 2010 models, the Accord is rated better than the Camry. Personally, I would ... Read More
A good part of this rant is false. It too is based on the falsifications in the LA Times story. This is just another case of another brand new poster suddenly pretending to be a first time owner and ready to bash Toyota to death based on a false story and incorrect interpretation of the facts. To me it's more of a coordinated attack on the internet forums. Edmunds isn't the ... Read More
I want to believe in Toyota sincerity but we all know they would never make this public on their own. I own 2 Toyota's myself 2009 Camry and 2008 Highlander. Then bigger they grew then more ... Read More
