If you asked John Q. Public who has had more recalls recently - Ford or Toyota - they'd probably say Ford even though it's not true. Makes you wonder - Toyota have said they want to lower the average age of Toyota owners, and as most older people drive "frugally", I suppose this is Toyota's discreet way of eliminating older owners... They get wiped out when the cars "leave (frugal) drivers with less power than they need." and presto, the average owner age goes down! Just a bad joke of course. ... Read More...

about 6 or 7 months back Motorweek did a story that involved some Avalon owners who had complaints on the tranny behavior, a Toyota spokesman at the time did acknowledge the unusual software behavior. I have a 2004 and a 2005 Camry, both purchased new. The latter has the new-for-'05 5-speed auto transmission. I'm at work, so I'll have to respond later, but I'm puzzled by some of your problems. Was the Camry new or used when you purchased it? (I would assume used.) Read More...

I just purchased a new 2005 Camry XLE on August 25, 2006. I have previously owed 11 Toyotas since 1973 (4 or 5 of them the Camry model) and assumed it would be an excellent car as all previous Toyotas were - WRONG! Problem #1 - it constantly shifts until you reach over 50 mph - very annoying. Problem #2 - too fast an idle speed - when the car has been driven and is warm - on ... Read More...

Ok, let me take my best shot after wwest's answers. Also, I read too quickly before -- you did say the car was new, although one thing is unclear -- is it a 2005 or 2007 model? how did this fuel filter change go? The thing is you have to tighten the nuts to prevent leakage but removing them is tough (the top one is fine to use a normal socket but the bottom one that's flared on the gas line needs the flare wrench for a better grip on that nut). I would not call it the best by any means, but not as subpar as some think. Fit/finish are on par with Honda/Toyota. Look with an open mind..
