2005 Toyota Camry LE 4dr Sedan (2.4L 4cyl 5M)

Review

Bought this vehicle new. Has easily been the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned with no dealer visits at all. At 73K miles (averaging 19K/year) all I have needed to do is change the tires once and oil regularly. Extremely unexpectedly, haven't even changed the brakes (although I'm close, measured depth was around 55-60% remaining as of a month ago). I log every gallon of gas by the current mileage. On full synthetic oil I'm getting 27 daily to/from work ("leadfooted" - not granny drivin' on V4) but only 33 on pure Hwy at 80mph. Had exactly one defect - manufacturing defect for rear speaker covers - they crumbled after about 3 years.

Favorite Features

Steering column radio controls. Full size spare tire.

Suggested Improvements

Jack mounting points (middle front/middle back) hard to reach - makes sense if you don't want feet sticking in traffic.

I have driven many cars in my time. Saturn L-2000, Honda Accord 1994, Pontiac Sunfire 1996, Buick Century 1988 and 1998, Buick Lucerne, Dodge Charger (recent) and many others. Besides the Honda Accord, no other car listed comes near the Camry. I have had this car for 70k now, and nothing besides the tires have been replaced, not even the brakes. If you want a car that starts up every day, is safe, comfortable, and is refined, buy a Camry.

Favorite Features

Quality, safety, refinement, looks, seating, fuel economy.

Suggested Improvements

Steering wheel adjustments, better paint perhaps. Nothing else needed.

Review

The thing I like most about this vehicle is it has power of a V6 with a 4 cyc. engine. The back seats leave something to be desired with two growing teenagers, but other than that, this vehicle is an A+

Favorite Features

All stereo controls, a/c, odometer are easy to read and locate

Suggested Improvements

My radio recently went out. I purchased it used, but now I have to replace the radio. Nothing else, everything is great.

Review

I purchased this car new in 2005 w/all the bells and whistles avail at that time. It has been a wonderful car and handles well in all environments. It has carried us over Cascade Mountain passes with deep snow and safely across the deserts of Nevada, California and Arizona in the summer. The fastest I have ever driven the car is 95. From 65 to 95 stability seemed to improve. Solid and predictable. It handles corners extremely well, generally 15/20 mph over posted limits. Perhaps the tires help. They are Bridgestone V rated. Very comfortable on long 8-10 hrs driving days. Not as quiet as I would like but!! Will probably buy Toyota again.

Favorite Features

Mileage, cabin layout, driveability. Is excellent in curvy mountain environment. Lots of power for the long open freeways. Power seats & leather are very comfortable.

Suggested Improvements

A touch more attention to reducing noise from engine compartment and (depending on type of tires) road.

I have had a lot of cars in my life, I am 52 years old. My Camry LE is the greatest car I ever had. As far a reliability I know when my wife has to drive somewhere by herself I know she is getting behind the wheel of a high quality car that she can depens on and be safe. Thank you Toyota for building a great product.

Comfortable, pretty, and all it has ever needed in 47,000 miles is standard scheduled maintenance and a new set of tires. Averages almost 30 MPG without fail.

Review

My first Toyota, everyone raves about these cars. I can't seem to get more than 18 mpg in the city in this car. I have a short distance commute but I should be able to break 20. Car is going to dealership. HATE the tranny, bad shifting in low gears, drags between 1-2-3 gears. Fine after you hit 40 mph. Car stereo is the pits. Does not get good reception. Was told to upgrade would cost >$1,000 for basically the same unit. Needs new steering wheel computer for new stereo. Aftermarket stereos would disable steering wheel controls. Miss my 1998 Nissan Altima that I traded in; I passed by an 04 Infiniti I35 because of the gas mileage. With gas at $3.50 I am trading this in before summer.

Favorite Features

The car is just beautiful on the outside. White paint , great styling (better than the 07 redesign) Really a looker for a family car. Nice sunroof, wheel covers.

Suggested Improvements

Stereo situation stinks period. Toyota, shame on you for making consumers replace everything with Toyota parts and then NOT providing the options. Gas mileage is infuriating. Just unacceptable.

2005 Toyota Camry XLE V6 4dr Sedan (3.0L 6cyl 5A)

Review

Third Toyota owned. Toyota changed to a direct wire transmission with which they have acknowledged having rough shifting problems, particularly when driven by more than one driver. Also has soft braking, again acknowledged by Toyota, which makes for unsure stopping. Seats are not comfortable on long trips and overall quality is not as expected of Toyota which now appears more interested in outselling its competition rather than upholding past quality standards.

Favorite Features

Overall interior appearance is favorable.

Suggested Improvements

Correct transmission problem in existing models in order to maintain customer loyalty which they have failed to do.

Review

I just bought this car and I am not a car driving kind of person-BUT this car is great! It has high mileage, but everyone knows that Toyotas can get over 2000 mi. and still keep on going. This car has plenty of pep and is fun to drive. It looks, feels and acts like a brand new car. I had read some of the reviews before deciding to purchase mine and it was very helpful in making my decision. I would recommend this car to anyone. I feel that this car is definitely a keeper!

Favorite Features

Very nice exterior design. Very roomy interior. Plenty of pep and great fuel economy.

Suggested Improvements

More interior lights-hard to see temp control and shift lever at night.

2005 Toyota Camry LE V6 4dr Sedan (3.0L 6cyl 5A)

Review

I have had this 2005 Toyota Camry XLE V6 for two months now. I am surprised how disappointed I am with the driving experience of the Camry. I had a 1997 Buick LeSabre with a 3.8L V6 engine that got better gas mileage than this car, and it was about 500 lbs HEAVIER. This 3.0L is should get better gas mileage than it does (for me 15 city, 23 hwy). My Buick glided on the road, more bumps with the Camry. And the transmission is the worst. It hesitates going between 20 to 70 mpg. Not good for city traffic. I can hear the wind and outside noises much more than the Buick. I am trying to trade-in for an American car this time, at least for a better performing V6 engine.

Favorite Features

6-CD changer, heated seats, steering capacity (more agile), fog lights make it more sportier looking.

Suggested Improvements

bigger V6 engine, quit the current smart transmission, reduce road noise, improve gas mileage on V6 engines (American cars have), two different buttons for tilt/sunroof, FIX THE TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE
