I have a 2011 Camry base, and am going to drive 2012 Accord LX, and Civic LX sedans to compare. I bought the Camry spur of the moment, good deal. Was always more of a Honda person, as well. Had a new 2010 Prius, but although I thought it was cool, and I liked it, it got boring to drive. Also, didn't get the advertised 50mpg in the winter when I ... Read More
I bought a 2010 Prius new in 12/2009, and although I thought it was cool, it got to be boring to drive, so I traded it for a 2010 Golf, and it was great. I lost $5,000 though, because it was at the height of the recalls, and nobody wanted to touch a Toyota at that point. I paid $24,430 for a Prius III, and got $19,110 for a trade three ... Read More
It seems that wheel alignment, balancing and struts are all fine, as no swaying occurs with the older tires. What about grooves on the highway surface where you got swaying with new tires? By the way I keep mine tires at around 40 PSI, mainly to cut down rolling ... Read More

My Camry's engine-check light was lit while I was driving to work today, and shortly after that, heat wave came out of the air conditioning chamber while the AC is turned off: What does this mean? It is a 2004 made Toyota Camry LE with 86k miles on it. Thanks in advance.
As a former Camry and present Accord owner (only used as an infrequently driven 2nd car) I totally agree with Plekto. The Japanese designers played it safe and designed white bread sedans since 2002. So, in 2004, after realizing that a fully loaded Toyota Camry would require a kidney donation, I switched out and purchased a new 2004 Optima EX V6. Standard features included leather, sunroof, etc for $17,500, $10k less ... Read More

OK, if you are still not convinced that there is something wrong with the 2010 Camry, then may be a recall of the 2010 Camry would. Its no joke. GM did a similar "test" for the Achieva in the 1990s--those buyers chose the Olds over Honda/Toyota too. Now, the Achieva ... Read More
While I love my TCH, I have a few gripes about it. Gripe #1: That darn climate control system. In the warmer months, if Auto is off, the recirc feature automatically comes on and makes the cabin uncomfortably humid. In the colder months, if auto is off, the darn thing blasts hot air in the cabin when you set the temp to 65. Turn it down 1 degree, and it brings ... Read More
I've been shopping for a used Camry, i've found a used 2006 Camry with the 2.4 engine priced at $16,800 which has 32,000 miles on it at a Chevy dealership, this Camry isn't certified since its not at a Toyota Dealership, I've also seen some 2005 models with the 2.4 engine at Toyota Dealerships however they are priced at $17,900 with higher miles into the 40k's also there are some 2004's ... The Sonata was the car that, when introduced, bested the Camry in multiple comparos. (The Altima available at that time wasn't deemed worthy to even participate in those comparos.) More than a shot over the bow of Toyota and Nissan, I'd say. And they have responded with better designs in the past year. And you may have noticed that since the '06 Sonata was introduced, huge discounts with Honda-to-dealer incentives have ... Read More
It will likely be difficult to obtain the SE without the moonroof, considering the way Toyota "bundles" options (in fact, not according to what's shown in the brochure). I have a 2004 Camry with a moonroof, and no doubt the 2007's is similar. There is some wind noise with the roof tilted open, but it's not that extreme at 55-65 mph. If you open it all the way, you'll definitely get ... Read More
If I'd have based my main need on handling and power I would've bought an Altima. Gotta love the feel of those cars! I'm not really into street racing anymore and didnt buy the Malibu for the 1/4 mile track. Words like "huffs and puffs", "all in the next county before a Malibu driver can even realize what's happening", "may 'feel' quick initially", "antiquated and slow (and noisy)", dont come to ... I traded my 2004 Avalon XLS on a Camry 50th Anniversary Edition eight days ago. In the first 1500 miles, primarily highway, I have received 41 mpg. I got Edmunds fair market value + $500 for my trade-in and Edmunds fair market value - $500 for the purchase. The car had arrived three hours before I bought it and the salesman did not realize it was the only one the dealership ... Read More
this argument is ridiculous and pointless. the malibu is NOT $7,000 less than a comparable Camcord. more like $2,000. Now, referring to malexbu's circular, annoying post. Clearly, no one has experienced massive troubles with a 2004+ malibu. it's been three years. THAT IS WHY we look at 2001 malibu's. Because the same company is making it, and even if the underpinnings and 80% of the engineering changes, the best you can ... Read More
Have a 2004 Camry LE with I4. Wonderful car. Manual clearly states 5W30 oil should be used, as does oil filler cap on top of engine. Yet several local Toyota dealers use only 10W30. So also many independents. That way they don't have to keep multiple barrels in the shop. Called several dealers before I finally found two who use 5W30. Is the difference so minor as to be insignificant? Will ... Read More
,--- elroy5 [ Mar 06, 2007 (7:16 pm) ] | | This statement is very familiar. It's the same thing they said about | the 97-02 Malibu. In 97 it was named "Car of the year" and was | "recomened" by Consumer Reports. I have experience with the 01 | Malibu, and it is a very crude car. I guess we should be concerned with the new (2004+) Malibu now that ... Read More
Suspect? So why don't my 2004 and 2005 Camrys have this hesitation? Both are 4-cylinders, the older one with the 4-speed auto and the newer one with the 5-speed auto.
Here's the deal; spend the extra money on the Camry. I just settled my suit with GM over the problems with my Maxx, and used the money toward down payment on a 2004 Camry Solara with 38,000 miles on it. The Maxx, and many other GM vehicles, seems like a good deal when you buy it. But, in two years' time my $23,000 car suffered numerous major deficiencies and depreciated to ... Read More
I also was getting condensation on the windshield. I had a wet /soaked right rear floor in my 2004 XLE that I dried out once because I thought I left a window open. I then parked it outside for 3 days in the rain and the floor was wet again. It turned out that the sunroof drain tubes were blocked and the seam was leaking. Toyota resealed the seams, cleared the ... Read More
Hello everyone! I'm looking to replace the factory steel wheels (15") on my 2004 Camry LE. I checked with a local Toyota dealer yesterday, and for the 5-spoke 15" alloys, they quoted $417.00, EACH!!!!! Does anyone have any suggestions on where I might finder at a more realistic price? Thanks all! -J.
Stop using the A/C during the winter months. The A/C evaporator becomes clogged, saturated, with moisture during the daytime and then that accumulated moisture evaporates into the car during the night, condenses and freezes on COLD surfaces. Read about the EED, Electronic Evaporator Dryer, at airsept.com It also helps tremendously to lower the windows slightly during the night in your garage.
I've seen this on other cars, where there is a heating core leak (had this problem on an old vette of mine). Radiator fluid, which is normally hot and is passed thru the heating core (little radiator in your heating system), springs a leak depositing moisture into the car. You can usually smell this though, but check to make sure you aren't low in the radiator overflow tank and monitor it. ... Read More
I have a 2004 Camry LE which I love but now that einter is here, find that interior glass of the car (windshield, windows, rear windshield and moon roof) all seem to get excessive icing on the INSIDE of the car. Somehow moisture is getting into the car and I can't identify the source. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, how did you fix it? Could it be ... Read More
I agree with both of you that, indeed, the rear brakes should be checked first before looking at the wheel bearings.
Would be hard to imagine, under normal circumstances, that rear drum shoes would be worn out at 50K miles. Rears don't do very much actual braking. Certainly is possible however, that some other defect caused them to wear out prematurely (ie. binding parking brake cable, bound up rear wheel cylinder). However it's also premature to have to replace a rear bearing. I personally would suspect a problem in the brakes, but ... Read More
Thanks for the update. But at 50K+ miles, wouldn't it be possible that the shoes on one side had worn down to the rivets and the metal-to-metal scraping was responsible for the noise the original poster is experiencing? One way or another, someone needs to inspect the rear brakes before blindly ordering up new rear wheel bearings I would think.
Good suggestion about the rear brake pads. However, if the Camry LE is a 4-cylinder (the more popular engine), it will only have rear drums, not disks, so there won't be a brake wear indicator. (The reason I know this is because I also have a 2004 Camry LE 4-cylinder.)
What the mechanic told you is certainly possible. Rear wheel bearings in newer cars are rarely serviceable. Instead, they're sealed and pre-lubed for "life". (Translation: they're good 'til they're bad - at which point they require replacement.) If the left rear's on its way out, expect the right rear isn't far behind. Another possibility - and considerably cheaper - is that the "growler" tang rivited to one of the left rear ... Read More
