2002 bad valve guides, expensive!
By NANCY W on
Vehicle
2002 Toyota Camry LE 4dr Sedan (2.4L 4cyl 4A)
Review
We bought this car new & expected to drive it 20 years. At about 100,000 miles valve guides are leaking oil and the estimate is $2,714.00 to fix it. Also front brakes are not that good for weight of car. We are considering selling it. We are really not happy with Toyota. They would not provide any compensation for an engine that should have had no major problems until at least 300,000 miles.
Favorite Features
body style with the rear spoiler is hot, like a classic camaro basically. very solid car. Fun to drive -- really with this particular camry I feel like it is a sports car when driving it (almost).
Suggested Improvements
interior center console was plastic or rubber & rotted out only after a couple years. They sell you a whole new console just to replace those cup holders. Overdrive off switch broke after a couple years, still under warranty. Front brakes not strong enough for weight of car. gas mileage not that

very strange. what kind of maintenance did you do? you are the 1% who are not happy with these cars. imagine if you had a chevy or ford that was obviously abused like your car was. probably would have never made it to 90,000.
