Reliable but Not a Fun Car
Vehicle
1999 Toyota Camry 4 Dr LE Sedan
Review
Toyota Camry, is by far one of the most reliable cars, with best performance that I have ever driven. It has never let me down. Unfortunately, it is also not very fun to drive. It is relatively bulky, no fancy designs. It is basically an excellent choice for a family car for a person who does not care about the quality of FUN of driving.

I bought this 100% brand new. Had just came off the delivery truck the day before. With 60,000 miles on it today I still believe it's showroom new as it was on 2-16-1999. I drive it on long trips because of it's comfort. That's only time I do drive it.

Four Cylinders (what can I say, I like 4 cylinder cars)

More power out of engine.

This is trully the best car on the market. I bought a used one with 40k miles and drive it for 2 years now. Not a single problem with it. This car is so reliable that you dont have to do anything just get some gas and change oil regularly. THAT's it. It is very quiet and sometimes I am not sure if the engine is on or not. It is pretty fast too. I test this car to its limits and it never fails me. It can compete with many sports cars and will lose just a lit bit. I raced a Lincoln MarkVIII which was ahead of me about one body length at 80 mph. In other words its pretty fast. The driving experience is excellent. Its like riding a dream. There are no compromises.
Favorite Features
I love the engine which is fast and quite. The car is a giant as far as perfomance and reliability go.
Suggested Improvements
It would be great if the suspension was a little tighter and handling a little stiffer.

We have had far too many problems and repairs for a low-mileage vehicle. Electric door locks function intermittantly & cannot be fixed. Air bag already requires repairs although never deployed. Many rattles and squeaks. This is our 4th Toyota, and it is clearly not as well-made as the others.

Suggested Improvements
Better design and construction standards.

Of all the cars I've owned, the Camry changed my opinion on what a good car should feel like. I had no idea I could have such a smooth ride, a quiet cabin, and a reliable car all in one. After the first day owning my Camry, I decided I was never going to own another American car. After 2 1/2 years, I have replaced tires, brakes, and the battery, but everything else is still working like fine without any repairs.
Favorite Features
smooth, quiet ride

Maybe something to dress up the dash.. some fancier gauges or something. Also, the panels where the window and lock features are on the door armrest don't seem as perfect a fit as they should be. Should also have a rain guard above the windows, because water drips right onto these buttons.

Almost no sound after being run for 75k. Looks simple with no fancy outlook but is reliable with greater fuel aconomy than some new cars owned by my friends. Transmission is great with no sudden jerks in rpm meter.
Favorite Features
Quite running

Too long to have excellent driving judgement! May be length can be reduced

After all the hype about this car and that, all cars smell, drive, look, and act similarly after a few years. That being said, I can tell you without reservation, this has been one fine car. I now have 61,000 miles on this car. I drive it daily in Atlanta traffic. This car has and continues to deliver everything you come to expect in a Toyota. I have only replaced the Front Brakes. I can't seem to wear the rears out, replaced the tires, and use synthetic oil with every oil change. Score? Perfect. It has never broken down. It has a better AC than Honda and is roomier. It won't turn heads but you won't call for a tow either. Next time, buy a 4-cyl Camry. It's my 2nd.
Favorite Features
Reliable: NO HASSLES. I haven't seen the dealer in 5 years except for routine maintenance. Comfortable: truly room for 4 adults AND their luggage in the roomy trunk. Mileage: Although roomier than most mid-sized sedans, this one still delivers 22-26 in town, 30-32 on the highway@ 70-75mph
Suggested Improvements
Power: The 4 cylinder I had was adequate with just me in the car but, add a few and it gets sluggish. The new 4 cylinder has fixed that. The newer (2003 on) has fixed that with a 157hp engine. Mine had only 127 or 130 I believe. Heavier seats. Long trips can tend to wear you out.

I have been in love with my Camry since the day that I drove it off the sales lot. Being a single female, I needed reliable transportation and the Camry has delivered. Best of all it's fun to drive! Unfortunately I was recently hit by a Semi truck on the Interstate at 62 mph but my Camry saved my life! Talk about a car that held it together. For safety sake, this is a car that I trust my life on. My next car and the one after that will be a Camry. What a car!
Favorite Features
Stock stereo is quite impressive. Good roomy interior, huge trunk. Great gas milage! Love the layout of the dash and cup holders. Good view out the windows and car sits up high for a nice view of the road.
Suggested Improvements
Seats are flimsy- need better leg and back support. Windows fog up in humid weather even with defrost on. Could use a few "extras"- better interior lighting at night. Could use a "sportier" feel for future models. Make it even more fun!
Toyota Camry: Luxurious. Boring.

The good: stiff chassis, roomy interior, high-quality materials, 60/40 split foldong rear seat, and well- finished trunk. The bad: boring design, wallowy handling, numb steering.

Like I said, this car needs more personality and better handling.

We bought this new in 1999 and currently have 67000 miles. This has been a very reliable car for us. It drives nice, the trunk is big and it gets decent gas mileage. The only problem I had was with the rear retractable seat belts. Both left and right broke within a week. With two kids in carseats, that's NOT OK. And of course it was just past the expiration of the warranty so it costed $270.00. Mechanically, it has been problem free. I replaced brakes for the first time at 60K and tires not much before that.
Favorite Features
Large trunk, cup holders in front center. "Smart" headlights that turn on/off when you forget. Power windows that still work even after you've turned off the car. Stock stereo sounds great.
Suggested Improvements
Sometimes low clearance, but I suppose if you drive slowly like you're suppose to over speed bumps, it shouldn't be a much of a problem.
