I have a 1990 Toyota Camry, the first thing I noticed go wrong was the dome light went out, i checked the bulb and it was fine. Tinkerbelle07, you speak the truth. Cars are machines and if you properly maintain them, fix little things before they become big things, etc., they will usually serve you fairly well. Thanks, so then 2.2 liters for the 3rd and 4th generations (1992-2001)?

Aha! So that's why my former '97 Camry didn't appear to have a PCV valve either. Same 2.2-liter engine (or was it 2.0 liters in '90?)
There is no PCV valve on that car. There is a hose that goes from the crankcase to the throttle body near where the flex air intake hose attaches to the throttle body. This hose looks like a large vacuum hose and needs to be checked once in a while for blockage. Because of this system the butterfly valve will tend to carbon up and cause a sticking throttle when you ... Read More

I would urge you to check an even more reputable source, say......KELLY's BLUE BOOK, you would probably find that source more accurate, since that is what, *ahem*; we dealers use. They list price ranges for each car. And since I don't like to pay ... Read More
The problem was with some early 1990 V6's. Toyota extended the warranty and notified all owners of the free replacement. The affected engine was mostly for the trucks, I didn't think the Camry V6 used the same engine. But for anyone who is interested, this is a pretty detailed article about the early 90 V6 headgasket warranty experience, through the eyes of a Toyota truck owner. http://home.off-road.com/~kemanuel/V6-HG.htm
I have three pieces of advice concerning the car your looking at buying: First, the price is extremely high. According to Edmunds TMV, the dealer is asking a couple of thousand dollars more than the car is worth. I don't know all the features and condition of the particular Camry you're looking at, so I cannot give you an accurate price estimate. I recommend pricing the car through Edmunds used TMV ... Hehehe, :) I don't think Toyota wants to buy GM. Ok, so Toyota has over $20 billion laying around in highly liquid funds, but there is a historical reason for that. In the beginning of in 1950's, Toyota was just a little nobody in the bombed out post war Japan. Sold a grand total of 250 cars (no joke) for the first post war car model, the SA. Nissan (Datsun) and ... Read More
My wife has a 98 XLE V-6 Camry we bought used for the purpose of a nice "luxury" car we can drive forever. The car is good, but I had an irritating warranty experience with front strut bushings(top I think). The dealer wouldn't replace even though there's a TSB out, said he couldn't hear, I told him when weather got colder they could, sure enough I took it in after warranty(40,000) ... Read More
Back in Nov 96 we purchased a 1989 Camry DX with 72,000 miles on it for $6300 which was at the high end of book.It was to be my wifes go to work car.I was sold on Toyotas because my work car was a 77 Celica GT with nearly 200,000 miles with no major problems.Well,60 days after we got it the Camry started blowing tail light fuses. We always carried a box ... I feel for the woman that has a problem with her camry for oil sludge. I also bought my 98 camry new. For a while, it was fine. After a few miles, it started missing. Within a few days, it got hot on me. I did check the water and antifreeze, to realize the radiator was almost dry. I added antifreeze to the car thinking maybe it was not full from ... Read More
I'm a college student that's graduating soon so I'll be purchasing a car in the next 6mo. to a year. In the meantime, however, I drive hand-me-down Toyota Camry's from my parents. The one that's "mine" is a 1990 Camry 4cyl 5-spd with over 200k miles on it. We've hardly had any problems with it and it's been a great car, and because of this I'd consider buying one myself. The ... Read More
I was really interested in your posting. I own a 1990 Acura Legend with 125,000 miles on it. I am keeping the car but also buying a new car. I am torn at the moment between 3 different cars. I like the Toyota Camry XLE V-6 and the Honda Accord EX V-6. But I also am partial to the Acura TL because the 1990 Legend is the best car I have ... Read More
I have a 1990 Lexus ES 250 (A.K.A, Camry with wood and two-tone paint) with 163,000 miles and still runs great. I have had a growing electrical/electronic(?) problem with the car for last year or year and a half. Periodically, the ignition will seemingly shut down -- as in, I would go to start the car and NOTHING. I would leave it a while (hour or two) and it would be ... Read More
I own both cars. I have a 1990 Accord and a 1994 Camry. The Camry rides very smooth and is quieter than the Honda. But I have had more serious engine problems with the Camry than the Honda. The Honda has 158,000 miles on it and the Camry has 67,000 miles. In my experience the Honda is the better car for longevity and the Camry is better for the ride and ... Read More
