Thank you for your post wheels r super. It is true some Mfg's (ie, Hyundai, Honda, and Ford, not to mention the EPA) have faked or misrepresented mpg #'s/fuel efficiency of various car models. However, it appears the high fuel efficiency #'s by the new 2014 Honda Accord is no fluke or fake; 47 mpg combined for the 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid vs 39-40 for the 2013/2014 TCH. Alex Dykes is ... Update: At 1/4 on the gas gauge, filled up. Only took 12.1 gallons. Could that mean it still has 5 gallons of reserve? Thats a bunch. Computer said it got 45.7 MPG. Actual came out to be 44 mpg. Mostly surburban driving and on Hwy trip = 200 miles. At fillup, it said the range would be 661 miles. At 44 mpg and 17 gallons, the actual range to empty would ... Read More
Until 2012 we were averaging 33 mpg in winter & about 30 mpg in summer due to continued A/C use. Now in 2013 our mpg is dropping sharply to 15-24 mpg. We can't get better than 28 even driving as conservatively as possible. We don't have a clue why. But we know Findlay Toyota in Vegas will drag our wallet over the coals with a diagnosis, then give us some sort ... Read More
That is a fair analysis. I have the 13 XLE. I babied it for the first 250 miles and toped off the tank. It computes to 51 MPG. I don't believe that but double checked it and that is what it actually got. Then I took it for a shake down drive. Climbed from 600 feet over the Tenn. River to 1,300 feet up Brindley Mountain, flipped a U and came ... Read More
Sorry to hear about your experience. My last tankful was 35 and the one before that almost 39. I think this last tankful was a little lower because I didn't baby it as much. But overall, upper 30's for me.
I can't imagine getting 24 mpg out of the new CH. I took one out for a test drive before I bought my Prius V, and did an easy 38 mpg which included stop and go plus our usually hilly interstate. We currently have 36 mpg tank ave on our 2007, which includes a lot of city driving. There could be something wrong who knows. but I'd suspect driver problems as ... Read More
Our 2013 TCHxle is a BIG disappointment for us. We have purchased new toyotas since 1986 and, currently, own a 2006 Prius hybrid as well. I am ashamed that we did not do more homework on this model before purchasing, but we TRUSTED TOYOTA. Our TCHxle is achieving at best 35 mpg, but mostly 24 mpg and this is unacceptable for us given the expected 38 highway and 40 city. Toyota ... Read More
I bought a 2012 TCH a few weeks ago and have already been to the Toyota dealer about my low 36 mpg on 2 tanks of gas. He was puzzled and showed me the different gauges to use to "teach me" how to drive the car for better mpg. Tried slow starts, coasting when I can, paying attention to the gauges, etc. Mechanic said there is no break-in period for these cars. ... Read More
we have also done research - our situation is that we had BETTER mileage the first 3000 miles while it was breaking in..then we dropped 30% efficiency from almost 40 mpg to 31 mpg and NO ONE has an answer. I an the only driver, my job location has not changed, I drive the same now as when I first purchased. The local svc mgr is blaming the weather and the ... Read More
I commute to Brooklyn daily from LI about 15 miles each way and my overall avg is 31.6. I am not a lead foot on the Belt Pkway or elsewhere for that matter. I also feel overall disappointed with the mileage and I have about 8,000 miles on it. When I asked the dealer, they said it needed to "break in"- i also have not been able to find out why ... I purchased my Hybrid Camry in Sept 2012; was happy with 39-40 mpg for first two months and approx 4000 miles. Then around Thanksgiving my mpg took a nose dive to 30 mpg...lost one third of my efficiency? I have had the car looked at two times by the dealer only to be given different 'reasons' why this could happen - but nothing definite was every shown. They tried to just ... Read More
Hello, Iím looking for a hybrid car, but the problem is that Iím 6í8Ē with a ridiculous 40Ē inseam. I have purchased my third Camry. My last was a 2010 Hybrid and now the 2012 Camry Hybrid XLE. I enjoy the changes Toyota has made to acceleration, handling and many refinements. The car is great in general, but the dealer refuses to check into an issue with the heat. My 2010 was exceptional for the way it delivered heat to the cabin. The engine was warm before we got 5 ... Wish I could have those results! I'm trying to find out if the engine number I have is really for the 2011 Camry Hybrid. I have a 2012 Camry Hybrid and my BEST mpg's are 35 and that was on a long trip. City mpg's are 33 and 32. I have almost 11,000 miles on the car and I am not looking at the computer for the mileage, I set trip ... Read More
Hi sonnyv6, I talked to a person who works a few businesses down from me who has had a 2012 TCH for 6 months and he told me he gets better gas mileage when he does not need to use the heat or AC.
Just saw your message and I too have purchased a 2012 camry hybrid xle fully loaded. Firstly your car has not been broken in yet. It should take approx. 10000 km. however, I'd like to confirm that the Toyota posted feul efficiency is not accurate. It is advertised as 4.7L/100km city and 5.1L/100km. The milage I'm getting is approx. 6L/100 hwy, 5.9L/100km city. Additionally, I have found approx. 5 addresses that ... Read More
I bought a new TCH XLE (Convenience Package and Display Audio w/ Nav and Entune options) last weekend and have driven 135 miles so far and here are my first impressions. This car is my first hybrid and is by far the most luxurious and loaded car I have owned up to now; my other car is a 2005 Accord EX. So far the car has been great and I give ... Read More
Hi sonnyv6....congratulations on your hybrid purchase! Yesterday we got gas and this time we got 34.5 miles/gallon. One thing I do which you may do already is take your foot off the gas and just coast down hills whenever you can although the 2012 does not coast as well as my 2008 did. My 2008 would coast down the smallest of hills! My 2008 hybrid averaged 35 - 36 miles/gallon. I ... Read More

I had a 2009 TCH and liked it very much, but traded it a year ago with the bad winter we had here in New England for a Toyota Venza AWD (4cyl) which averages 25 mpg.My only complaint was the poor trade-in value. Just took delivery of my 2012 Hybrid XLE. This brief review is based on an extensive drive in another XLE Hybrid that I had use of, and now my own. The acceleration and power is excellent, and I feel much more confident in merging into ... Read More
I owned a 2010 Prius for a total of four months and took a $6,000 hit in the pocket book to get rid of it. There are way to many blind spots on the car. I came close to totaling it four times. The SUV did not even have a scratch. But my Camry front ... Read More

Just as I had predicted. You'll enjoy the mileage, even in Phoenix. Good Luck !!
The problem was with a bad inverter. Replacement solved the problem and I have the car back now. They also did extensive checks on the hybrid system functions to make sure there were no other problems. I will definitely trade in the car before it goes beyond the warranty.
The service manager called me this morning. There were no obvious things wrong like loose connections. They have opened a case file with Toyota headquarters to diagnose and fix problem. He indicated that it will take a few days. I will keep you posted with results.
Doubt it's thermal - I live in PHX with a 2007 TCH I bought in June 2006 and it is fine at nearly 100K miles. Battery still charges fully. You most likley just have a faulty component, and when replaced, the car will be good to go.
I have a total of 1800 miles on it. I wanted to see if anyone else had a problem like this. Driving today in Phoenix and everything operated normally. This was the hottest day yet. Outside air temp reading was 113 degrees. Parked it for an hour, then came out to go home. Made a very fast left turn onto busy street. Easily the hardest turn I had made to date ... Read More

not trading in. My wife will be using this car. I was talking about getting 2012 Accord for $19700 or TCH for $25500. Is that worth paying $5800 for getting hybrid....
I have 40 miles each way commute. city driving. I bought 2011 Accord LX last February which I am selling now because of the fuel cost. It has total 18000 miles on it... I am thinking buying 2012 Camry Hybrid now. There is a $5000 price difference. is that really worth paying that much diff? Are there any pros/cons someone can share? thanks,
I noticed one of the 2012 Toyota Camry LE Hybrid Adds listed a cruising range (something like 615 miles, 15 * 41 mpg combined) that had a small footnote stating that it was based on 15 gallons. So I suspect that Toyota figures the last 2 gallons is a safety factor. If you use the whole 17 gallons you would get close to 700 miles. I am on my first tank ... Read More
There is a big difference of the drivability between normal and eco, I don't like the eco mode, and my normal mode drive in local only yields 35 +- in Altanta mild winter. The same time I can get 55+ out of my 2008 Prius, I don't think they are giving the right MPG on the sticker, we had such high hope before. But, the comfort and power is superior comparing ... I have an older Camry Hybrid from 2007. It was rated around 38 mpg at the time, but I only got that during the break-in period. In reality, I get around 33 mpg (ranges from 32-35) in mixed driving. The XLE Hybrid will be out in Nov or so, if you can wait until then, I suggest you try it. Also check very carefully the features of the XLE Hybrid vs XLE non hybrid. I was looking for a new car, without a moonroof/sunroof. It seems that for a Camry, one is limited to only low trims (e.g. LE/SE) and blocked from taking the high trims with all options (fully loaded) unless the moonroof is included also. I have noticed that the XLE Hybrid does NOT come with a moonroof. It does allow to add the Convinience Package and the basic Entune (no JBL) but ... Read More
from WSJ 2012 TCH quote- The consulting firm IHS Automotive counts 29 different hybrid vehicles on the market, including battery-pack toting versions of mainstream midsize sedans such as the Ford Fusion, Nissan Altima and Hyundai Sonata. Despite the additional hybrid models on the market, "we're seeing no increases in demand," says IHS auto industry analyst Rebecca ... Read More
The Camry Hybrid is currently using a nickel metal-hydride battery, right? I believe that Toyota's plan is to move to a lithium battery, possibly for the next generation Camry Hybrid (which would be the 2012 model year). A lithium battery is substantially smaller, so that would help with the trunk issue. A lithium battery is also lighter, so you get even better mpg. Main issue is cost, as lithium batteries are ...
