Happened to me on my 2008 and a friend with a 2007 same thing happened. Now what are the odds huh? I can't even believe what I'm reading right now! We thought we'd google Toyota Camry Hybrid Odor for the heck of it, and here we are!!! I have a 2009 TCH that i purchased brand new end of 2008. I drive 100 miles 5 days per week plus weekend trips from NJ to PA. The smell started about one month ago. We tore the car apart thinking there was an apple ... Read More
Yes it is normal. You must completely boot the system in order to use any function on the navi.
Just purchased Toyota Extra Care Platinum warranty with zero deductible from Jerry at the Midwest Superstore in Hutchinson, KS for my 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid purchased new in December 2007. I live in California. Prior to purchasing I called 2 other dealers which come up a lot in the various forums. Doug at Danville Toyota (Illinois) and Troy at Toyota of Greenfield (Massachusetts). Here are their respective quotes: Midwest Superstore in ... Read More
I recently got a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid, I was surprised that I had to load the NAV DVD for the sound system to work, is that normal?

The official Toyota part number for a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid is 86271-GEN05-09. This is V9.1.
I couldn't find that info anywhere in the 2008 manual...what page was it on? Do you have the 2009 or 2010 manual? Thanks for the info by the way.....
I just want to make sure I'm buying the right one for my car. I have a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid so, to buy the most updated DVD, I should get the second one (86271-GEN05-09 86271-53024 ) right? I'm not sure if the years pertain to the year it got released or for the year of the car. Please advise. Thank you.
I just bought a 2008 camry hybrid. when i tried to use the GPS system i noticed that the disk in my car has maps to the USA and CANADA only(i'm not in the us or cananda i bought the car in USA and shipped it over to israel). I have a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid with Firestone tires. I'll be lucky to get 20,000 miles out of them. My car is well maintained and I regularly check the tire pressure, which is set at 32 psi per manufactuer recomendations. No alignment problems. The car is basically local to and from work and not driven hard. I understand the Michelin tires will go about 45,000.
larsb, you have a lot of posts :) i love camry and toyota in general - except i'm having same problem as mra605 dec 20, 2008, real world LOW MPG with my 7 month old TCH. i'm also being told by dealer and toyota customer service that vehicle is "running as it should". my MID displays 26-28 MPG ave. i've read a lot on this forum and others and honestly; who ... Bought a new 2008 Camry Hybrid in December 2007. Have put 15k miles on it so far. Average mpg are 36.4. I have a lighter foot than my wife and can get a consistent 40 when I drive. Recently completed a 411 mile trip over flat lands and mountains. Took 10 gallons to fill the tank. Dealer replaced the rear brake pads at the 5k service as they were making noise. ... Read More
"Personally I would be concerned about the functionality of ABS and VSC with the TCH when the primary braking is via the regenerative method vs pure frictional braking on the standard Camry." Toyota has this problem solved. I have a 2008 Highlander Hybrid. All of the electronic controls (ABS, VSC, regen. braking) are fully integrated and work fine. In using mine in snow and ice this past winter they worked great. ... Read More
Guy walks into a Toyota dealer looking for a 2008 Toyota Prius. He's heard about hybrids for awhile now, and the Prius is one he knows by name. He vaguely recalls some celebrity bragging about taking one to the Academy Awards instead of a limo, and then there was that South Park episode, "Smug Alert" a couple of years back. And didn't Al Gore's own son make headlines for getting busted ... Read More
Well, apparently some of the posts have been removed by the Host because they had too much information on them (phone numbers), so some of the ones that had prices are no longer available. I already bought my warranty from Midwest Toyota for my new 2008 Camry Hybrid, and I got the Platinum 7/75, 0% ded. for $619. I would have purchased the 7/100 for $964, but I only drive about ... I just bought my second TCH. I traded in the one I purchased in late 2006 for a new 2008. I got in on the $1,000 rebate from Toyota. It ends 4/30/08. I made the trade at a really good price. I am a confirmed Camry fan. I bought my first one in 1987. The trade in was white (OK). The '08 is silver with a spoiler (much cooler, I think). ... Read More
Since I posted the question, I have owned my TCH for another 3 months and driven it for 3000 miles. It is very amazing that I already adapted to it very well and do not care that it starts up a little bit slower than other toyota sedans. In fact, I am very satisfied with this car. It is very smooth and can accelerate very fast once the speed is brought ... Read More
Does the Toyota rear spoiler impact the mileage of the 2008 Camry hybrid. I recently purchased a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The dealer threw in the rear spoiler. It had to be ordered. I am getting 40+ mpg on the highway and averaging about 33m mpg in the city. Does the rear spoiler impact the miles per gallon on the car?
My wife has a 2008 TCH and her mileage dropped from about 33mpg when it was 45 degrees F, to about 24 mpg when it gets below 0 dgrees F. I have a 2008 Prius. My wife and I bought our cars the first week of Nov. 2007. It was 45 degrees F. My mileage was about 46.5 mpg. At 20 degrees F, my mpg is about 42. At 0 degrees ... Read More
I bought a new 2008 Camry Hybrid, a couple of weeks ago. I have been looking for the All-weather mats for the Camry, since. It appears that these were recalled by Toyota the last quarter in 2007. Any idea as to when it would be available. Also, I was wondering how you other new Camry owners are managing without these mats, especially if you live in snow/slush prone part of the ... Read More
I wonder what kind of mileage Prius owners get when their car is cold and they only drive a few miles to work? That would be interesting to know. It's strange that although the car is larger than the Prius and the gas engine is more powerful, Toyota chose to put a less-powerful electric motor in the Camry. Wouldn't it make sense to have a more powerful electric powertrain? If they ... Read More
Last June, I bought a new 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid at Dunning Toyota in Ann Arbor, MI. Salesman said the car would get 40 city/38 hwy mpg's, but the car consistently gets between 24-28 mpg's. The service dept. said nothing was wrong with the car and gave many excuses why the car really wouldn't get 40/38 mpg's.(weather, wind, road conditions, AC or heater used, my driving, etc.). For 2008 models, TCH ... Read More
I just bought a 2008 Toyota camry hybrid recently. Every time I stop and start the car again, the car start moving very slowly initially. It just doesn't give me the normal feeling as on other cars when I depress the accelerator padel. I am wondering whether any one have the same experience. Is this normal for Camry hybrid or due to some individual car problem?
Forum members, I am the brand new owner of a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid, and I have a few questions. The first question (for now) concerns the VIP Security RS 3200 Plus system. Has anyone had it installed after initial purchase? Is it worth paying the extra few hundred dollars to have the Toyota dealer add it on my vehicle or is the factory standard engine immobilizer/door arm/disarm system sufficient enough? ... Read More

I have a 2008 Camry Hybrid, and am wondering if bumper guards can be installed. Since its chassis is supposedly identical to that of Toyota Highlander, and there are tubular bumper guards for the latter, is it possible to install them to the Camry? Has anyone tried installing bumper guards on Camry Hybrid?
http://www.hybridcars.com/market-dashboard/aug07-us-sales.html Aug-2007 Hy sales were much lower compared to the last few months and even less that Aug-2006 when all other months in 2007 were better than the same months in 2006. Infact, the share of Hybrids among total vehicle sales is less than 2.0 % Reason Prius-2008 is coming in Sep with Standard Edition costing $ 1,200 lesser. "Similarly equipped cars" -- there's the problem. Buyer-by-buyer basis is true to a point, but lets try to look at it objectively. What could be a single model, Camry, with a list of options, has been stratified into CE, LE, XLE, Hybrid, and, I will ignore here, SE models. And the available options are set to encourage higher models (the CE is a bargain compared the the LE, but has very ... Read More
Let's not get crazy......I understand the POWER that the HYBRID PREMIUM has on the NaySayers, but let's not go overboard. I went to Edmunds and compared Standard Features on the 2007 CE and the 2007 TCH - the 2008 specs not there yet. If you read the article YOU POSTED MOPARBAD, the closest non-hybrid Camry to the TCH is the LE V6, not the low-end CE: “The JBL system alone is ... Read More
Less for Less 2008 Camry Hybrid Has Toyota achieved cost reduction of hybrid components and is passing the lower costs on to the consumer? Nope
Good news...the Camry Hybrid will now cost less. quote- A recent JD Power finding that hybrid popularity is giving way to more interest in diesel powertrains may have some legs to it after all. Even though gas prices have been hovering above $3 for months, Toyota is still trimming the entry price of its 2008 Camry Hybrid by about $1,000. To help pay for the unexpected price drop, Toyota eliminated standard ... Read More
Nothing. I googled "2008 Toyota Camry" and got ZERO hits in News and nothing like a preview, first drive, or any kind of Toyota announcement at all. I guess they aren't ready to reveal anything yet. Maybe they are addressing 2007 owner complaints and are re-tooling some stuff.
Does anyone have any details about when Toyota will be coming out with the 2008 TCH, and what the differences will be in comparison with the 2007 model?
OK wvrsmith, let me attempt to help you understand why your mileage is what it is......:D The Toyota dealer did not lie to you, and neither did Steve Young. ...It appears that the MT editors were pleasantly surprised by the 2007 Camry Hybrid. While of course it doesn't have neck-snapping performance (that's not the point of the Hybrid Synergy Drive system), MT editors were surprised that it didn't take much work to get over 35 mpg in steady driving. I think Toyota's hybrid system is still by far the best, mostly because of its generously powerful electric motor. Small wonder ... Read More
"The new 2007 Camry is a great improvement with Avalon's V6 (268 hp) and a six speed auto. Being several hundred pounds lighter than the Avalon and having an extra gear, why isn't the Camry even faster than the Avalon and get even better mileage? Hopefully with a sixth gear it has a lower rpm at sixty than the 5-speed Avalon. Good job Toyota. Honda will have their work cut out ... Read More
