2013 Toyota Avalon XLE 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 6A)

Previous Avalon owners will be shocked at how harsh the ride of 2013 Avalon is. Small bumps are transmitted as sharp kicks into the cabin. Road noise is also pronounced on worn asphalt roads. The style of the car makes a rear view camera a must, however its an option. the camera is standard on the Honda accord. Headlights also have a sharp cutoff that makes reading some road signs difficult. The touch sensitive switches make it to easy to activate the wrong control.

Best Features

A good looking car, almost Lexus like, excellent fit and finish. The interior is plush and comfortable. Performance is good ,engine and transmission are well matched. I averaged 24-26 mpg in mostly city driving.

Worst Features

Fix the ride. Make a rear view camera standard. Replace the touch controls with buttons or switches. More insulation to quiet the road noise. Improve the cutoff of the headlights.

If a person wants a “boat like” ride Cadillac may be a better choice. My 2012 Avalon XLE was nice, but did not corner as well as the 2013. A stiffer body delivers an assured ride but does not decrease comfort. I do not understand the comment about noise. I used a sound level meter and found the 2013 Avalon Limited was quieter than my 2012. Toyota could make some of items mentioned standard, but like most manufacturers Toyota knows how to market.
