Only yesterday I submitted a claim under the recently announced 75,000 mile extension on the Daytime Running/High beam lights. At $76 for the replacement bulb in 2010, this isn't my biggest problem. I had recieved notification from Toyota of this extension only a few days prior to that. I recently spent $350 for replacement low beams (these had the sometimes on, sometimes off issue common in a large number of these ... Read More
More confusion on this recurring subject. I just had both headlight assemblies replaced by Toyota at their expense in December. However, the specifics of my repair do not match what you are describing. I received a letter from Toyota, but with these differences from what you describe: 1) The replacement was specifically due to premature burnout, or shattering/melting of the halogen HIGH beam bulb. It made no mention of any remedy ... Read More
That is what I have heard. however the warranty extension is only good to 75K. Mine first blew at 83k and again at 125K Then the low (HID) blew. I have found lower cost replacements, but I am a little frustrated with Toyota for not backing this up.
From what I have learned from my Toyota dealer, there is a release date (Feb. 22, 2012) for replacement headlight assemblies for the Avalon. That tells me there must have been a re-design due to premature failure of headlight bulbs whether they be high or low beams, both of which had dailed within a month of the other. So far communication with my dealer implies that my Avalon's headlight issues will ... Read More

My 2011 Avalon Limited with Nav, remote start, 6% sales tax, delivery, etc was about $39K in MI. I was looking at the 2010 using a CostCo discount and trouble with the salesman. When CostCo contacted me to see if I was happy with the service, they apologized and said the price is (I think) $700 over dealer cost. That wasn't supposed to be applied to the 2011, but I went ... Would a tire change make your 2011 Avalon road noise quieter? Mine seems pretty quiet and I don't notice much noise from other vehicles, either. (I probably will now, though.) I spent 90 minutes on the phone with Toyota USA yesterday because I have had this issue with my low beams as well. I'm about to replace the 2nd one already on my 2008 Avalon. I replaced one in 2010. That 16" tire size was standard on the 2010 Avalon XL, all the other lines had 17" tires. Apparently your 2011 XL also came with 16's, might have been an early model year built car so they used the 16's on all the XL's till they ran out (guessing). Most websites show only 17" tires for all 2011's, you are correct. Others may have more ideas, but if the door sticker ... Read More
Finally got the steering box replaced at a local Toyota dealer. The total boll was around $550.00 of which Toyota paid $100.00 Toward the repair. On oil changes: Local Toyota dealer does all mine and says 5k is fine for the Avalon driven normally. You could probably go even longer, as these posts suggest, and do no real harm. Some newer makes, such as Nissan, can go 7.5k and the oil is fine when changed. Not like ages ago...2k max.... wow, did we ever do that?..... yep..
ntassistant, With the current oil and engine technology there is absolutely no reason to change your oil every 3K. The new 4.0L 6 cylinder on the Toyota FJC uses 0w20 synthetic and calls for a 10k oil change. It was a 2010 Toyota Avalon Limited (loaded) with Nav, 8 way passenger, special paint, laser cruise, floormats and wheel locks . Yes the over 7000.00 reduction and rebates were great. Unfortunately the sales tax (8.25%) and then registration (nearly 500.00!) etc takes a big bite out of that "savings". Don't you just love the government :-) ?

The wax is great and the finish ... Read More
I definitely would NOT purchase the extended warranty for your new Avalon. Speaking for myself (I also just purchased a 2010 Avalon), I don't think I put on enough mileage in one year (between 7k-10k) to even require a need for the extended warranty. Depending upon how much mileage you put on annually, should help you decide if the extended warranty is worth the extra money. Being a current Toyota owner, ... Read More
Definitely NO on the last three, all are stealership "packs." On as reliable a car as an Avalon is, would also skip the extended warranty. Not familiar with what exactly is included in the Toyoguard package.
I can say this, if these things are good, then I would do them. I say it like this, because it wasn't offered to me, and now my paint has a fair amount of hairline scratches. Interior protection package … I've got leather and don't think this would be of much help for what they'll likely charge for it. Undercoating, I haven't seen this sold in New England in a few ... I am a current Camry owner with 160,000 miles on my car and expecting 100,000 more. I am about to purchase a 2010 Avalon and need some help making decisions. Should I get the extended warranty? Can someone tell me about their repair history? I turned down the Toyoguard Plus Protection Group Package, does anyone think this is necessary? Should I get the Exterior Paint Sealant, Undercoating and Interior Protection Application ... Read More
I have a 2007 as well, and the only official Toyota "mail" I have received is about the floor mat issue. As N says, the factory carpet mats, hooked properly, will never cause a problem. I have never received anything in writing from Toyota about the very real VVTi oil line issue (supposedly fixed at the factory in mid 2008), or the mysterious, really unverified, vehicle acceleration seemingly caused by electronic ... Well mine is the 2007 XLS, I have only received one letter regarding the stuck accelerator and as my other post suggested, it did look to turn out to be user error in using mats not designed for the vehicle or not using the hooks to clip them in place. Personally when you pay 35000 for a vehicle, I somehow don't think the majority of us go for grey import mats ... Read More
I am wondering if the only recall regarding the 2010 Avalon is the issue involving the accelerator and floor mat. Here is the link to the description of the recall: http://www.newcar.com/15/04/2010/toyota/avalon/recalls/38997.html Does anyone else know of any official recalls for the 2010 model year? I am a bit confused regarding the recall with the floor mat and the accelerator. My neighbor, an older woman, also purchased a new 2010 Avalon. She ... Read More
Isunday, Thanks for the good advice. Today I test drove a 2010 Nissan Maxima, a fully loaded Camry, a fully loaded Venza and a fully loaded Avalon. By far the Avalon had the best ride! If we settled for anything else we would feel we had stepped down. I am concerned that Toyota will discontinue the Avalon. We went to a very large Toyota dealership in the DFW area and they ... Thank you for your replies! I feel better after hearing from current owners. In my mind, I felt like I bought a lemon! Toyota has always been my only choice of vehicles and probably will always be my only choice! I think I truly have to get use to this new car. A Corolla drives entirely different than the Avalon, and I have to get use to this new change! The ... Read More
I, too, am a senior citizen, and I will have to defend my Avalon a little bit. I like the Toyota ride, which has been described by some as mushy, but the handling hasn't gotten me in trouble yet. It suits me much better than the firm "German" ride that picks up every bump in the road. With my honest 30 MPG on the road at 75 MPH, I don't think ... Read More
Hmmm., I thought the Avalon was presently on a stretched Camry platform? I AM one of those senior citizens described in the link, albeit not at the colostomy bag stage as yet. However, even us old farts like some excitment in a vehicle. The Touring edition was a better handling Avalon, and in their infinite wisdom, it was discontinued. A RWD performance-orientated machine might be the answer for Toyota. Went to ... Read More
Has anyone heard an update on whether Toyota will re-style the Avalon or will they discontinue it in 2011?
No issues like this with my 2008? As for a class action law suit? With only 3 weeks on the car, my guess is (with a bit of toughness) the dealership will take the car back. Let them and Toyota Motor Corp., know "It's take it back, or I file a class action lawsuit"! My guess is, you won't own the car much longer, as it will be easier and cheaper ... Read More
I bought a 2010 Avalon 3 weeks ago. It intermittently rumbles at 35-40mph when is drops into high gear and lugs the engine. The Toyotal field rep says this is normal for the Avalon (as well as other new Toyota cars) but most people don't complain about it. They don't want to publicize this because they wouldn't sell as many cars. Please let me know if you notice this: I'm trying ... Read More
Fast forward ten years: it appears that in the year 2020 it will be as embarrasing to drive a Camry or Avalon as it is to drive a 2010 Buick today. Looks like only Ford is getting it right since their repair record is exceeding Honda & Toyota (Honda Accord's $250 rear brake pad replacemnt every 15,000 miles problem is the number one issue on carcomplaints.com) and Ford is actually turning ... Does anyone know approximately when Toyota will stop production of the 2010 Avalon? Toyota typically introduces new models/styles in early March, just in time for spring. I would like to order a 2010 because I like this generation's style. However, I am hesitant to do so because the 2011 should be on it's way, and I may like the new generation much more! Any new information on the 2011 model?
I asked my Toyota service mgr about synthetic oil for my 08 touring. He told me that Toyota notified the dealer that the new Avalon will require synthetic. If he knew anything about oil change interval with the new model, he wasn't willing to share.
