2003 Toyota Avalon XLS 4dr Sedan w/Bucket Seats (3.0L 6cyl 4A)

Review

Moving form a performance oriented BMW to the more serene Avalon took a little bit of an adjustment. But I needed room to carry three adults and one child. The Toyota Avalon more than fills that need and does it in a level of comfort never expereinced with the Beemer. All the bells and wistles, and a powerplant that is Lexus quality. This car is hard to beat.

Favorite Features

Interior amentities, JBL stereo, comfort, lots of information.

Suggested Improvements

A little more horsepower, standard stability control, a little tighter steering.

2003 Toyota Avalon XLS 4dr Sedan w/Bucket Seats (3.0L 6cyl 4A)

Review

I own a 1996 avalon also. I like my older car much better. The 2003 has blind spots. The dash is too busy, and the gas milage is better on the 1996 model.

Favorite Features

lots of room in the back seat. Very reliable automobile.

Suggested Improvements

Design. Get rid of the blind spots. They are real bad in the 2003 model.

2003 Toyota Avalon XLS 4dr Sedan w/Bucket Seats (3.0L 6cyl 4A)

Review

The Avalon is not going to win any styling awards or be confused with a sport sedan, but with that said, the Avalon has no other weaknesses. If you want to feel your surrounded in luxury and want a comfortable ride that even the best luxury car will be pressed to match. The Avalon is your car. The car is extremely quiet and with the upgraded sound system, it's almost like sitting in theater. Toyota reliability and workmanship in a glove leather package.

Favorite Features

Seat comfort and quiet ride. Stong 210 bhp engine and a silky transmission.

Suggested Improvements

Steering wheel mounted radio controls, and a telescoping steering column.

Review

Automatic temperature control is very inconsistent - to hot or to cold. Feet are hot, upper body cold. Brakes are poor, almost impossible to brake slowly they are on or off. Car nose dives when stopping quickly. Poor acceleration from stoped position. Doors must be slammed to close properly. Automatic wipers don't respond when needed. Poor traction in snow

Favorite Features

Read out for mileage, temperature very legible.

Review

Just picked up my new Avalon. Though I really like the car and it's design/amenities am sorely disappointed in the quality of the workmanship coming from the Kentucky assembly plant. Very poor fit on the body panels, interior plastic squeaks and the paint(pearl white) on the plastic rear bumper is about 8 shades darker than the rest of the car. Also, the wind noise with the moon roof open is almost deafening. Have owned 9 previous Toyotas but this is my first one assembled in the US. Perhaps I am expecting too much but the local service manager tells me that they have four times more problems with the US assembled Toyotas than those of the "J- Series".

Favorite Features

Comfortable seats, instrumentation layout, delightfully quiet with the moon roof closed and a pleasure to drive. Audio and climate control systems are great.

Suggested Improvements

Other than the sloppy workmanship, we really miss the fold down rear seats that we had in all of our Camrys. Also, the lighting in the informantion cluster(time, date, temp, mpg etc. is a bit bright during in the daylight - should have it's own rheostatic dimmer.

2003 Toyota Avalon XLS 4dr Sedan w/Bucket Seats (3.0L 6cyl 4A)

Review

As a sales rep that covers Ohio to the West Coast by car (20 States) I "live" in my car. I've had VW's Volvo's and Saturns over the last 20 years and NOTHING compares to the complete performance package of the Avalon XLS.

Favorite Features

Seats, JBL Stereo, Trunk, Auto Dimming Mirrors, Engine Power and smoothness, Tight as a drum doors when shut.

Suggested Improvements

Axe the foot parking brake for a REAL on in the center column, a dead pedal on the left side of the floor for the driver, raise the gauge package for better visability (not a'la Buick like it is now)

Review

I have owned many automobiles over the past 70 years of my life including: 39 Ford Coupe, hot-rod Plymouth (yes, there were such things, Fords, Pontiac and Oldsmobile big engine daddys, Cadillacs, Camrys, and finally, the most pleasing automobile of all: My Avalon XLS. Wow!

Favorite Features

Interior design, confort, detailing, exterior fit and finish, fuel economy, and lack of exterior road noise.

Suggested Improvements

Only problem is the Gold Package. Symbols and letters affixed to car's exterior seem to be tarnishing at an extremely rapid rate. Intend to visit my dealer about this.

Review

What a vehicle! 20mpg in town in 2-3 mile trips and high 20's on the road. Comfort abounds, room room room. Looked at 2 series MB, but couldn't see the additional $. Drive a Lexus, just more wood & trim, basically the same car for far less $. I've owned just about everything in my life and for the first 3000 miles it's been equal to anything.

Favorite Features

Comfort, room, drive quality, quiteness.

Suggested Improvements

Haven't found anything in 3 months yet to wish improvement for.
