I have a 2006 4runner 4.7 8 cylinder engine, 125,000 miles. I starting to get a high pitch whining noise on acceleration. Will fluids help my problem? I really need the advice please, I don't have 4,000 dollars for a new transmission.
I'm dealing with a similar issue. 2003 4-Runner. Check Engine, Trac Off and VSC lights came on while I'd driving down the interstate. I get the vehicle into the local Toyota dealer who charge me $300.00 and to replace the MAF Sensor. Less than 24 hours later these lights come on again! Dealer wants an additional $ 378.00 Air Flow Sensor. I'm totally frustrated!!!!
Hi, I am relocating around 500 miles from NY to MI. I am renting a 16 foot truck from Penske/Uhaul for my 2 bedroom furniture but would like to tow my 2006 Toyota 4runner LTD behind the truck probably on a car carrier. Neither company would allow that saying the 4runner is too heavy for their trucks to tow. size wise I measured it and it should fit on their car ... Read More

My conclusion is either dealership did not do the ... Read More
Actually Toyota didn't even mention anything about doing the computer flash. I decided I wanted it done after reading some of the messages out here. I have a 1986 SR5 22RE 5-speed with 290,454.4 miles on it. I took a rock in the radiator and lost a head gasket 48K miles ago and it has piston slap until it warms up, but the engine was clean as a whistle inside - no sludge whatsoever! After many months of research, I was reluctant to trade-in my 2007 TCH for the 2010 4Runner 4WD LTD with NAV, but owning it now (since 12-30-09) and after 100 miles, I am so glad I did. hear, hear! unless you're driving an insane number of miles every year, the MPG difference between the V6 and V8 is nominal at best. like you, i have 33k on my 2006 V8 Sport Edition and get 17+ (mostly city miles) and was really disappointed by the lack of oomph from the new V6. the 2010 4Runner is even heavier than its predecessor by ~400lbs, so the paltry 10hp gain is ... I agree with you as I used to have a 2006 V8 4Runner 4WD and definitely when I drove the new 2010 V6 4Runner 4X2 it has less power/torque compared to the V8 (was not even a 4X4 the 2010 4Runner I drove). Also, I called Toyota customer service and found out that the 2010 4Runner has indeed a canister with an element for oil filter change. Although the canister it ... Read More
You did not specify, but let's say the issue is pinion bearings (not unheard of, especially if you let the gear oil get low, say, due to leaky axle seals). $2k is absurd. It is because dealerships do less repair every year, instead replacing components. You can't blame them, but you do not have to pay them either. You have several options. I've been watching the sales of used 4-runners. In the last month or so the 'Limited' inventory has been disappearing. For example, tonight I searched CarMax for a 2006 or later Limited, and only found 11, at any price, nationwide. I could be wrong, but buying a 3-year-old toyota with some high-end features and knocking the price down more than $10,000, doesn't it sound attractive?
I own a 2006 LTD V8 with 70K miles, bought new, with no problems at all. Still have original tires & brakes. The 16" wheels will have a fractionally larger diameter if you get 265/70/16 tires. When I bought my 2006 I insisted they replace the 17" wheels with 16" for a better ride and better off road capability. Go to http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html to see the difference in size. I found that the Toyota 16" 4 Runner wheel won't fit a 4WD so they had to put Tacoma wheels on mine.

Car_man, Can you provide me with the residual and moneyfactor numbers for both a 24 and 36 month lease for a 2006 Toyota 4Runner LTD. I would be interested in both the V6 and V8 models. Are there any incentives for this model? I live in the state of New Hampshire. Regards, Chris

We have a 2006 4Runner and there is a popping noise coming from the radio on FM. Doesn't happen on AM or CD. We've had it back to the dealer several times and they cannot or will not fix it. We drove another one and it had the same problem. Now Toyota says that it is "Normal" since they all do it. Best description is like someone tapping on the top ... Read More
Hey All... Just saw the new leaase deal on this.. Anyone have any deatils on it? I live in California and can not find any specifcis. The Edmunds site says $279/36months/12k milage with: "Lease based on a 2006 4Runner SR5 RWD V6 (model #8642) equipped with options FE, DR, CD, SR, and TO. $1,999 due at signing. Hi Car_man, I have a basic question about calculating lease prices. I have read your article about calculating a "bottom-line lease" and understand how this is done. What I'm wondering is - if I add options to the car, can I still use your formula so long as I 'upgrade' the numbers to include the more expensive msrp of the vehicle configured the way I want it? I'll give you an ... Read More
I just came back from the Toyota dealer which he told me is bad quality of gas, but I told him I do not experience it on my other Toyota and it is the same gas... anyhow, he did not insist much and I will be replacing my dual CC in my 2006 4Runner LTD V8 4WD in a couple of days. I will post and let you know if the ... Read More
Yes, indeed, I experienced this awful almost throwing up smell like a rotten egg yesterday on stop and go traffic. I have a 2006 4Runner LMT V8 4WD with a little over 1000 miles driven so far. I will definitely call Toyota and dealership to remedy the issue... I just finished talking to the Toyota dealer and guess what bad news... there is a new TSB EG004-06 that does cover the ... I have noticed a clanging noise ONLY when the sun/moon roof is opened all the way intermittently... I have a 2006 Toyota 4Runner LTD V8 4WD... anyone else has experienced this... is this normal???
I've read the earlier posts regarding the exhaust noise generated during acceleration/load. I've noticed on my 2006 4Runner that the exhaust manifold does appear to be rather "thin" thus producing the exhaust tapping noise. I'm curious to know if anyone has taken their 4Runner or other Toyota vehicle with the V6 engine to the dealer and what they said/did. I plan on driving another '06 4Runner this weekend and will see ... Read More
I delt with Sandy Springs Toyota in Atlanta, GA. The sales manager promised me $500 below invoice price as well as the $2000 rebate that is going on in March '06. He also stated that I wouldn't have to pay for any options I did not want and that he could get the vehicle from anywhere if he had to. I pondered over it for a day and got onto Edmunds ... Read More
Sounds like a really nice vehicle - a 4x4 Sport like the one I'm trying to find in central TX, with only a few differences in the minor options. I see you got the side airbags - I called the Toyota Customer Experience Center to verify they're available, as NO repeat NO local dealer has a 4Runner with side airbags other than a Limited. One dealer even claimed " . . ... Read More
Hi dad23. Toyota's lease program often varies depending upon which one if its twelve regions one leases in. In most areas right now, Toyota Financial Services buy rate lease money factor for the 2006 4Runner is .00055 for consumers who qualify for its Tier 1+ credit tier. Again, this does vary by region. If you tell me what state you are in, I can be more specific for you. TFS' current ... Read More
I have a 1997 SR5 with 135K. no problems with rotors...could it be a terrain issue? commute car etc....
I bought my 1999 sr5 new. It has 73000 miles at the present. I had front rotors resurfaced twice already. I was informed that the next time it will have to be replaced. Do you think that the rotors could be defective in material?
No issues with my "beast" 2006 Toyota 4Runner V8 4WD with less than 1000 miles so far... I used to own a piece oh junk 05 Odyssey (1st year generation model... and after 1 year of issues, oh boy am I glad I got rid of it, never ever again HONDAs) and traded it in for a 2006 Sienna and have no issue so far... My point is, besides the fact ... Read More

I agree, 73K on rotors is outstanding.
If you've gotten 73,000 miles out of your rotors then you're doing great. Defective? No, absolutely not. Resurfacing the rotors is basically taking material off them. After doing that once or twice, the rotors are too thin to meet specifications. 73,000 is excellent life out of a set of rotors.
Well, there is always a chance the rotors to be of defective material, but I believe the issue is with excessive/improper torquing of wheel lug nuts... make sure the torque setting is correct to avoid any chance of over torque...

While we love my wife's new 4Runner, the 4th 4Runner she has had, we can't help but believe that Toyota really blew the interior lighting design. When you open the driver's or front passenger's doors there is no front seat interior lighting that comes on automatically. The dome light behind the sunroof is so far back the front seatbacks shadow the interior. You can reach in and manually turn on the ... Read More
