I would have love to see/own a Toyota designed by Nissan. I chose the 2005 4Runner over the 2005 Pathfinder and the Venza over the 2009 Murano. The Nissans were great; very competitive, but the Toyotas were the better pick for me. YMMV. I read your post and I have to laugh at the dealer comment. Odds are, your dealer screwed up and pulled the tranny drain plug during an oil change. If it happened at Folsom Lake Toyota where my issue occurred, I wouldn't be surprised. "FLT" left my engine two quarts low and tranny two quarts over. I'd bet dollars to donuts your dealership caused the problem.

You should really know more about Toyotas 4WD Systems before commenting. First, the Torsen Center Differential has been in the 4Runner since 2003, and in the Sequoia since 2005. Second ALSD only operates in 2WD, and is engaged by pressing a button. All other times TRAC is on, and works at any speed. TRAC will brake the slipping wheel and cut engine power for stability, which is what you would want ... Read More

I am experiencing the same problem with my 2005 4runner. Try looking under the 4runner maintenance and repair board. Some of those guys have found a fix for this problem. I wanted to be arm with some info to be able to explain this to the toyota dealership. Hopefully, since they are a 5 star dealership, they will listen to me and take me serious. :(

2005 4runner engine ticking noise
I just purchased a 05 toyota 4runner 4wd and after about 1 week of having it i noticed a ticking noise coming from the left side of the engine. this noise is present whether the m/v is idle or in motion. the dealer said that the m/v is fine and it's just how the engine sounds. i don't buy that!!! can anyone offer any help. thank you

Just by removing the oil pan, NO technician can visually tell if any bearings have been damaged due to the lack of oil. It's solid rear axle makes it give up some rear cargo room to car based SUVs like Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot. I have a 2005 V8 4WD with 24k miles. At my 15k service I had 90% left front and back. Most of my driving is freeway and I do tend to be easy on breaks. My Isuzu Rodeo went 150k before I insisted that we do the front pads.

You have an aftermarket alarm. Either the selling dealer or someone else installed it. Hopefully you can pull the fuse for it and still have your factory alarm. My 2003 came equipped with a factory alarm. Although I see it's optional on 2005 models, I've yet to see any 4Runner from 2003 forward that doesn't have a factory alarm. The transfer unit drives the front axle and propeller shaft for the rear at .341:1, and that is what equals out the front and rear. If there was no transfer unit to do this, and just an open diff or VC the different ratios would send a lot more power to the front. I just bought a 2005 Toyota 4Runner V8 4WD. Driving home from the dealer I noticed a high frequency vibration in the steering wheel that only occurs when accelerating. No vibration at all when coasting at any speed. What I meant is that Toyota will not likely offer the incentives on the 2006 V8 because they will have adjusted their production schedule so that they won't have excess inventory, especially early in the production year. Good advice. And change the oil and filter after the first 1,000 miles, too. I like Mobil 1 5W30 and a Toyota filter at 1,000, 5,000, 10,000, 15,000, etc.

I contacted Toyota today, it seems that the 2006 4Runner will hit dealer lots in September 2005, here in New England. I am waiting to buy the 2006 V8 Sport Edition, it also appears that Toyota may limit the quantity of V8s on the lots, because of rising fuel costs.

It can give an hint to look at the Toyota.jp web site and find your way to the Hilux Surf vehicle. Headlights have changed a bit Over fenders are now round.... Sounds like an interesting lawsuit!? I would not expect the computer to be exact but rather within a 5% error range which is fairly typical of all cars I own. Buy a GPS or 2 and you will find that most cars typically overread slightly on speed and also on the odometer. My BMW has a 3% odometer and a 6% speedometer overread at speeds above 40MPH.
