2003 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4WD 4dr SUV (4.7L 8cyl 5A)

Review

i needed a winter car, something with AWD or FT4WD. i had a very bad experience with reliability of an audi and volvo (which i was replacing), so those were out. subarus were too small inside. i drove the 4runner after testing a honda pilot and acura mdx. i was impressed by the solidity of build, acceleration (it's better than edmunds lets on) and the highway ride.

Favorite Features

the drive train; seat comfort; quiteness; solidity; the drive train (did I say that?)

Suggested Improvements

heated mirrors should be standard; window/door lock & glove box should be lighted;

Review

It feels more solid than my previous 98, Forerunner. With the V/8 it has all the power you will ever need and it seems, so far, to get similar gas mileage. The new 5 speed transmission is flawless.

Favorite Features

The V/8 engine, more passenger room, on trips it cruises nicely, no need to push it like the previous v/6.

Suggested Improvements

I could use a bit more headroom. It should come with rain deflectors on all side windows.

Review

The design change is excellent except for the crappy cheap looking ugly pathetic cladding. The tri-circular silver dash (odometer, dash) is also a major style flaw. The gauges are smaller than the previous 4Runner edition and the orange back lighting is a joke. This is a 4Runner not a sports car. The shifter is also a sports car design, not necessary in a SUV.

Favorite Features

V-8, Toyota quality, new performance features, etc.

Suggested Improvements

Delete the cladding crap, go back to a dash (odometer, TAC, etc.) similar to the previous 4Runner version

Review

I just got my 4Runner tonight. The best SUV in the market! Handles great and very smooth! Quiet drive. Interior with all the creature comforts! I'd like to say that everyone should give this a try. Then again, I'd like to be the only 03 Toyota 4Runner in my neighborhood so no one else copies...hehe. Good luck looking and have fun driving.

Favorite Features

Big sunroof. Odometer cluster design. Smooth V8!!!!!! GRRRR!! Automatic tailgate window.

Suggested Improvements

Easy-to-use stereo controls.

Review

The V8 supplies a great deal of torque, and even for a vehicle weighing in at over 4000lbs, you definitely will have no problem merging into traffic. The interior is extremely nice and comfortable, and the double-tiered cargo system somewhat compensates for the lack of cargo room in the rear. The exterior is visually pleasing in the limited, and a step-up from the plastic cladding of the SR5 and the Sport Edition which were designed to decrease dings and scratches caused by off-road driving. The Air-Suspension is a must for off-roaders and/or those who will be using the 4Runner for towing.

Favorite Features

V8 torque, leather interior, heated seats, dual climate-control, heated outside mirrors, jbl 10-speaker system, attention to detail, 2-tier cargo system, color-coded lower panels, air- suspension w/ X-Reas.

Suggested Improvements

Downhill assist is somewhat noisy. Offer new satellite radio system like the Pathfinder.

Review

A vast improvement over older model(had a 1999model). Great p/u w/8 cyl engine. Excellent steering, braking, creature comforts outstanding.Ride could be a little bit softer/more refined. A competent vehicle both on/off road.Blind spot on both right and rear side could be easily eliminated w/ a larger 3rd window. As a salesman, doing 20k miles + a year, t's a great way to go.Fuel mileage, combined city & highway appx 14.5-15.0 miles per gallon w/the eight cylinder, and a heavy foot. A true Toyota Winner!!!!!!!

Review

This is my 3rd Toyota. This in my opinnion is the best one yet. Lots of Power from the V8. The old 4Runner was a bit lethargic in comparison. Smooth shifting 5-Speed Automatic transmission and quiet at a mouse at 70 MPH. Bravo, Once again Toyota has come up with a real gem.

Favorite Features

Great V8 power, Smooth 5 Speed Transmission, New insturment cluster, New thermostat controls

Suggested Improvements

Lose the Plastic wheel surrounds.
