2002 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4WD 4dr SUV (3.4L 6cyl 4A)
First 10 months with 2002 4-Runner have
been exceptional. Fuel mileage on long
trips averages at 20.5 mpg travelling
at 70-75 mph (where speed limits and
conditions permit). Reliability has
been perfect in the first 10,000 miles.
Basic design is utilitarian with no
unwanted frills (no leather, no sun
roof, no nav system, etc.). It rides
well on decent roads and less well on
rough roads as expected.
It is wanting for power. The 3.4L
engine is OK on torque but low on
horsepower. This is a heavy vehicle
that would benefit from some tuning -
i.e. VVTI, dual path manifold, etc.
However, the fuel mileage and need for
only 87 octane is a nice compromise.
