2012 Suzuki SX4 Crossover 4dr Hatchback AWD (2.0L 4cyl 6M)

The SX4 is a great all around general purpose vehicle, especially the Crossover. This car is heavy, solid, and handles great when driving around twisty back roads. Suzuki is biased towards building great handling cars rather then simply ones that accelerate fast. The SX4 Crossover is NOT an economy car. It easily weighs over 3000 with a driver and full tank of fuel. This is a vehicle that tries to do everything well and succeeds. Some cars just do one thing well, like a Prius getting great mileage or a Wrangler being good in the middle of the woods. You will get fed up with that when you need a car that does something else. The SX4 is that very car, and a reliable one.

Best Features

The 6-speed is one of the best shifting manuals I've ever driven. Even if you can't drive a stick, take lessons and then go out and drive a 6 speed crossover. The standard radio has a CD player and an aux. input jack. Therefore, you can play anything from your phone or iPod. There is decent aftermarket support for SX4 owners out there. Even a lift kit for the Crossover is offered. The lights, windshield wipers and commonly replaced parts are common and easy to find at Walmart or your local car parts store. There aren't any "exotic" expensive parts that have to come all the way from Japan that you need just to keep the car on the road. I love the foglights!!

Worst Features

The oil filter is VERY hard to remove. You must take off the antifreeze overflow container and the cooling fan before you can remove the oil filter. This requires unplugging the fan, which takes all of 1/2 a second and removing the 4 10mm bolts holding it in. You need a slip profile socket wrench and a drill bit style 10mm socket to do this. (VIM tools makes this item) The fan should be a slim profile one that allows for the filter to unscrew and come straight out. The windshield wipers are too short. The back wiper should be 13" or 14", not 10". The front driver's one should be 28", not 26". Part of the windshield is not covered, but they are easily changed no problem.
