Hi jcroy, I'm having the same problem. Did you ever get an answer for the Mass Air Flow Sensor problem? I have a 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara - 2.5L V6 and I really like the car but spending 2K on this issue may be a problem. Thanks, bankshot

I own a 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara JLX with a 2.5 liter (H25) V6 engine. I need a part that’s mounted on the throttle body that Suzuki doesn’t sell separately. The engine was put into the 1999 to 2003 Grand Vitara (and some Trackers but I have no idea which ones) I’m having a hell of a time trying to find this part through salvage dealers for a number of reasons. ... Just a quickie to say I agree completely re: yr. observation alluding to how "it just had to be a six under the hood there" for oft irrelevant reasons. Yes the Vitara BADLY needed one in order to become Grand in 1999, as the 4cyl version was actually LESS fun to drive than it's Sidekick predecessor! But that's ancient history with the intro of this up to date 4. Certainly the ... Read More

Yes, but it's not that Suzuki seems incapable of innovation. Except for that slightly modified original 1999 Grand Vitara engine down there under the hood in the new GV, the REST of "it" is certainly testament to that fact. Farther afield, they currently have one of the top ten concept cars on display right now at the Frankfurt Auto Show, the Kizashi, an Accord fighter AWD vehicle powered by a 2 ... Read More

If you look at the Suzuki Grand Vitara posts there was a problem with the timing chain tensioners from 1999-2002 approx. The fix is over $1000 at the dealer. Someone posted instructions and pictures of the problem and how to fix. I do not remember what post number it is.

Stand facing car, under cross brace from suspension turretts is a black cover ( one on either side of main engine with 3 plugs in each). It is fixed by 2 screws. Remove these and you will see three coil/tops. held by 8mm black bolts. Release this and extract plug cover. You will need to release brace to get to at least two of the plugs. A bit of a job ... Hi Rob, I have a 1999 Grand Vitara 2,5L V6 automatic. The A/C has leaked into the passenger footwell. On inspection there was condensation dripping off of the outside of the case. I pulled out the filters and found that the evaporator was one quarter iced up from the bottom. The condensate drain pipe was clear and working, after the ice melted there was a large pudddle under the car. Have ... Read More

I met with the local Suzuki dealer service manager today. The mgr looked at my condenser and the whole front end of the vehicle. He called the Suzuki district mgr and after discussing the issue, Suzuki agrees to replace the A/C condenser under warranty. The district mgr had prepared the service mgr to tell me this type of damage was "normal" from sand, dirt, etc., which of course I did not ... Read More

I haven't been on these message boards for some time... I purchased a 1999 GV way back in 1998. To date, it has been the most trouble free new vehicle I have ever owned! And considering I've averaged a new vehicle every 20 months in the last ten years, that's saying something! The GV is the vehicle that is the exception... I've already had it a year longer than any other ... Read More

Satisfying Performance courtesy of The Toronto Star March 20, 1999 New Grand Vitara brings Suzuki back into the mainstream. Suzuki has an honourable history of making rugged little sport-utes that could use more power. Now, with a V6 under the hood of the all-new Grand Vitara, the problem is solved. Suzukis and I go back a long way. My first contact was with an SJ410 Samurai over 15 years ago. Equipped ... Read More

We've had our 1999 Tracker 4-door for a year now. Since both of our vehicles are primarily business vehicles, my wife rents a car when she goes on long personal trips. This last time she rented a GV for 5 days. "Scary on bumpy highways", "sluggish", and "gas guzzler" are words she used to describe the GV when she returned. She drove cattle trucks in Eastern Oregon as a teenager, and ... Read More
