"My wife and I bought a fully loaded Subaru Outback 3.6 (2012) and I must say...it's a beautiful car! However, we have been having significant transmission problems ever since (pretty much since the first week). When coming to a rolling stop and re-accelerating (even mildly) there is a significant "clunk" in the transmission. Ouch! Our hearts sank immediately as we'd just parted with a significant amount of money for this purchase. ... Read More
Thanks xwesx. Haven't seen any GTs for sale anywhere around here. As for avoiding the EJ block, that seems difficult. From my limited searching it appears that I would need a 2012 legacy to get a FB. Not that I don't want a '12 its just that limits the choices and the cost. Sounds crazy but really not that worried about fuel economy. So the EJ should be avoided completely? I'm ... Read More
I have been driving a 2000 nissan maxima for 10 years and really like it. Also have a pathfinder. We really like nissan but for my new (used) car, thinking about Subaru. I drove a 2010 and 2012 legacy and really liked it. Also considering an older (05,06) infiniti g35x. I want a car that handles well and it sporty looking and fun to drive. Fast would be a plus. I have a 2006 Legacy 2.5i Sedan. Bought less than a year ago (Apr 2012 @ 85,000mi). I heard nothing but good about Subaru's but shame on me for not doing more research. I basically have/had issues 2, 8, 9, 11 + persistent alignment issues. And I hate that I have to replace all 4 tires when I lose one. Already had to do that once after a flat tire. I've ... Read More
I purchased a 2013 Outback 2.5i Premium in October of 2012. I have a bit more than 4K miles on it and it is fine. I have driven both and the newer version is more responsive and has significantly less of a "rubber band" sensation than the older version when accelerating. ... Read More
I bought a 2012 3.6R Legacy in April and had to take the car in for service after two weeks of driving. Hi thank you so much for your reply, I just signed for a new 2013 Legacy Premium w/ option 2/All-wether package w/ moonroof-sale price was $22,200(they were asking $25,800), total price with tax & fees were $23, 817. Hi there im looking at a 2012 Legacy with the all weather package for $21,000, is this a fair deal. Vballplayer 30-you mentioned you purchased a 2013 with the same package for a lil over 22k, how much was it and where?
I am considering buying the outback 2.5 limited. I have never owned a subaru before but I like their philosophy. You say the 2013 has little relationship to earlier models regarding noise, smoothness and response. The dealership said the 2013 had no real improvements from 2011, 2012. Are you comparing it to earlier models.?
We purchased our 2012 Legacy 2.5i premium with moonroof and all weather package in January 2012. After much research we determined it would be a great fit for our family. As soon as it began to get warm outside however, we quickly realized there seemed to be a problem with A/C. Upon startup the vent air registers 40 degrees on max cool recirculate. After about 5 minutes of running the air ... Read More
Drove a 2013 legacy last night (2.5i). It actually seemed pretty quick to me. Hard to imagine it not being enough motor to get the job done. And definitely better MPG to go along with it. also, Subaru has pricing up for the 2013 now (on the build your own). I specced one out identical to a 2012 on Edmunds (a 2.5i limited with moonroof) and MSRP was only up by ... Read More

If you are still concerned about head gaskets, wait for the 2013 model, which they just showed at the NY Auto Show. It gets the FB engine block. I am totally disappointed with the gas mileage of my new 2012 Legacy Limited 3.6R. The best I can squeeze is 15.1 city. The display reads 16.9 average , however, the gallons used verses actual miles driven calculates to 15.1 Is this typical? Really regretting my first purchase of a Subaru! Where is the best place to file a complaint? Peter from Mass.
My 2010 Legacy with the 3.6R engine has had no transmission problems. The engine does vibrate through the steering wheel at idle, and this seems to be a Subaru characteristic. It is the first car of 20 or so I've owned that makes the steering wheel vibrate.

Congrats on the new Subaru skokman!! The Legacy is a very nice vehicle. The only thing that annoyed me was the OEM tires. According to Tirerack, the OEM's are horrible in the snow. Greetings. I've noticed that the 2012 Legacy information is now on Subaru's website. When looking at the engine specifications in the "compare models" tab, it lists the 2.5L engine as SOHC. Doesn't the 2012 Legacy have the new DOHC FB25 engine like the Forrester? Does it have direct-injection? Does it have dual iActive Valve Control System?
I suggest you wait for the 2012, you may find the 2011 a bit sluggish if you are looking at the 2.5i automatic versions.
Can you tell us more about the new steering wheel design. I have a 2010 and I am thinking of buying a 2011 or 2012. Thanks in advance....
I am also using TrueCar and Costco buying programs, but I have always found that negotiating on my own provided the best deal. Can you advise what dealer in NE Ohio you bought from? Seems very quiet on this board, thus maybe demand is down due to economy or is everyone waiting on the 2012 models? I will do a 2011 or 2102 whichever has the best deal.
