I have a Sienna and my wife drives a Forester, no significant difference in maintenance costs for us. She actually gets free oil changes from the dealer so the Toyota is more work. The oil filter is the cartridge type and it is much more work vs the spin off kind Subaru uses. Heck, the new Fb25 engines Subaru has puts the filter at the top of the engine so it ... Read More
I have a 2006 Legacy 2.5i Sedan. Bought less than a year ago (Apr 2012 @ 85,000mi). I heard nothing but good about Subaru's but shame on me for not doing more research. FWIW - I have a 2005 Legacy GT LTD that has now crossed 130k. Honestly, one of the better Subies I have owned this one being number 5 out of 6. I do live ... Read More
A few of the things are just what they are. Paint chips - that's just par for the course. Paint nowadays is not as durable as it once was, and experience will differ based on road and traffic conditions from one day to the next. Headlights? Yours might need some realignment, but the "sharp cutoff" is an artifact of projector-style headlights. Your visibility wouldn't necessarily be better with non-projector headlights, but ... Read More

Your car and the 2011 have different transmissions. I have owned two Subaru Outbacks with the 4EAT that is in your car (one of which was also a 2008), and they were fairly smooth, so there is certainly nothing normal about the symptoms you describe. I suspect the issue is with the electronic control, but I would also inspect the transmission fluid to see whether there are signs of physical wear ... Read More

I'd say that some of the content is a bit suspect rather than not well written, which is why I highlighted certain phrases. Interesting, I had a similar quote when I went there about a month ago. They offered to get the 2008 Legacy 2.5i SE down to the 19's. I am thinking of adding the Subaru hi performance exhaust, cold air intake and heat shield to my 08 GT. I know this is subjective but is it worth it? Though I welcome the Subaru reviews, the recent ones have been carelessly mistake ridden, and perhaps even worse the mistakes aren't just typos, they come with feeble editorial hooey that tries to rationalize the nonsense. Perhaps the writters should know their audience better, Subaru followers are not only going to notice, but, perhaps even resent the notion that they can be duped with such sloppy journalism.
Sorry but the article is so ridden with mistakes I must point them out... Some 95 percent of peak torque is available at just 1,800 rpm and it also pulls strongly right up to 6,000 rpm. As a result, you can now take 2nd-gear corners in 3rd gear thanks to the beefy bottom-end torque and instant throttle response, so there's more traction and more control. How does a wider range of ... Read More

I want them to give me 10% off of the sticker price from the dealer, not including the $1250. The sticker price is roughly 23K for the Special Edition and 25.5K for the Limited. If they don't accept my offer tomorrow I ... Read More
Car Man, Do you know what the July residual value and money factor are on a 2008 Legacy GT and Legacy GT spec.b. I was recently quoted 56% and .0026 (GT) and 50% and .0026 (spec.b). These were for 36 months and 10,000 miles a year. Do these sound right?
I don't know the details but I think the 24 month program is their best offer at the moment. I just got an offer for $280/month (includes tax) with $2000 out of pocket for 10k miles on a Limited. I do believe this was a good deal, but still more than I set out to spend. I think I can get the Special Ed. for approx $50 less per month. I ... Read More
Hi Car man. I have a price for a 2008 legacy SE sedan 2.5i automatic of $20,000 plus tax and motor vehicle fees. If I were to lease it for 48 months, with 15,000 miles per year, what would my payments be?The car would be purchased in new Jersey. The MSRP for the vehicle is approx.$23,000.
Doug, Thanks for the info. They didn't break down all of the extra fees for me, but I thought the exact same thing, that there was atleast $800 more in there than what they were saying. I am looking at the Limited Editions now online, being that its only about $1K more than the SEi model that I am looking at. Do you know the MF & residual for 36 months ... Read More
Assuming you have about $800 in fees (plus taxes) rolled into the monthly payments, and are not putting any money down for cap cost reduction, it all seems to add up. Have you looked at the Limited edition as opposed the the Special Edition? It has an upgraded interior, but I'm not sure if it has the options you've added to the Spec. Edition and whether or not the lease terms ... Read More
doug, The 69% residual is for the 10K miles. I was not provided with the 12K residual. Taxes & other fees are included in the monthly payments.
That sounds like a great price on the car (which is on my short list at the moment as well), but you've left out a bit of information. Are you putting any money down? Are taxes and/or other fees (bank fee, for example) rolled into the lease? I also assume that the residual of 69% is for 12k miles, and 10k miles is a bit higher. Plugging your #s into http://leaseguide.com/calc.htm, ... Read More
Is this a good deal on the 2.5i Spec. Edition Lease. Retail is $24,345 minus dealer discount of $1,000 (for leasing) - $1,250 (customer cash) - $1,572 (dealer discount) for a total of (-$3696) off of the vehicle. Price of vehicle is then $20,649 with a 69% residual ($16978). Money Factor is .0019. Lease term is for 24 months. Payment for 10K is $280 per month. Payment for 12K is $291.per ... Read More
That price is as low as we've seen here, so I'd definitely go for it! I'd don't see any reason for worry about the dealership going out of business as long as you've got somewhere to have it serviced. You may see if they have another dealer they're referring their service dept. business to. Fantastic price!
I got this price quote from Subaru of Thousand Oaks (CA): 2008 SUBARU LEGACY LTD 2.5i SEDAN (vdc) DEEP BRONZE METALLIC TAUPE LEATHER SEATS CENTER ARMREST EXTENSION AUTO DIM MIRROR YOUR PRICE $23,199.00 PLUS TAX AND LICENSE MINUS $1,000.00 FACTORY REBATE $22,199.00 Is this a good price? Also, they said that they are going out of business by 12/31/2007 so does this make for hassles down the line?
I wonder if that $254 is the fee paid to Subaru of New England rather than a documentary fee...? That's a great price. Way to go & congrats!
I ended up buying a 2008 Legacy Limited w/ vdc (see post # 535) for $21,500 + $254 doc. fee + 7% RI sales tax. This price includes the $1,000 rebate. I purchased the car from Patrick Subaru in Shrewsbury, MA.
