I have a 1992 Subaru Legacy with 190k miles. I had the transmission replaced about two years ago and it has been running fine. Tonight I got in the car and it started fine. When I pushed the black button in to shift into drive the shifter wont move. Could this be my transmission again? Read More...

HI. I HAVE DONE THE BASIC PART CHANGES, GASKETS, ALT, STARTER, ETC. HOWEVER I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW SHOULD I BE AFRAID TO ATTEMPT CHANGING THE TIMING BELT. Hi Guys, Just got a 1992 Subaru Legacy wagon with 86K miles on it. It runs good and I have not noticed any problems so far. It appears to be in good shape but I don't know much about Subaru's. Regrettably, yes, you have to dig all the way back in there. Lining up the timing belt is incredibly easy, assuming the sprockets are marked as with later model years: First, rotate the crank (with belt on) until it is in TDC position (should be a mark on the sprocket). I recently had come into my posssion a 1992 subaru legacy 179,000. It needed a timing belt the teeth were gone. so we put that on and the car starts now but has a miss. to my knowledge it did not miss before the timing belt issue. I had a 1992 4Runner for 7 years. Great vehicle. If you are towing or do heavy offroad, its the vehicle, great resale too. The outback will handled better, run quieter, out brake, accelerate and corner the new 4runner. The 4 runner's awd system has some quirks with the interaction with traction control at low speeds.
