Bought new in '92 Have put on 182000 miles. Still original clutch! Still original exhaust system. Only work I ever needed was axles, just replaced struts at 179K and alternator at 181K. I couldn't ask for more out of this car. Engine & Trans still operate perfectly. I've never done an easier oil change than this car, everything is super accessible

Favorite Features

Hill holder clutch is a fabulous feature especially for people that are uncomfortable with a stick. Love that the headlights shut off with the key and the drivers window rolls itself up!

Suggested Improvements

Cupholder in bad place, obscures the radio. The black trim flakes (painted over chrome). Fold down backseat would've been nice

Got it with 80,000 miles. Now it has 220,000. Everything still works perfect. I deliver pizza and drive all over the western US on back roads to paddling put ins and trailheads. I used to live in Utah as well and it goes up in the snow like a champ. The engine is still strong and smooth. I've only changed the oil, filters, belts and plugs. I'm on my 3rd set of tires,2nd set of brake pads and shocks. The clutch must have been replaced before I bought it because it's still tight. Get a stick if you have the option for more pep. I sleep in back just like the other guy and I'm 6'3"!

Favorite Features

AWD. Low operating cost. Starts everytime. It's my mini RV! Lots of room for gear. I've been getting 34mpg on I-70 through Kansas!

Suggested Improvements

Subaru Dealers Suck. Service and Sales are unfriendly. Fire everyone, start over and be like Saturn says they are. Subaru went down hill after '94. But, the '05s look good.

Review

There is no other car manufacturer that gives me the same confidence as Subaru. My Toyotas only lasted 8 years. Buying new with a 5 year loan is not an issue. The car will last 10 years easily. Repairs have been ordinary over the 11 years owned. Smooth running and dependable to a fault. Front wheel drive only, it has performed well in all weather. This car has been an excellent value. Few if any could compare.

Favorite Features

Surprisingly powerful for an automatic. Great in snow and hums on the highway. Has always been the family car. With rear seats down, carries your Christmas tree INSIDE!

Suggested Improvements

Lower back still sore even with lumbar support after about 3 hours of straight driving. I'm 6'2". Radio volume hard to set comfortably for all passengers. Road noise and speaker placement I understand have been improved.

Review

I love the AWD and true utility of my wagon. I have had it for almost 3 years and just passed 150K miles, It had 88K when I got it. I've climbed most of the UT Mountains with it, and commute to work 75 miles a day. The car knows its own way to Las Vegas and Yellowstone! It has always starts and never given me any trouble, after 3 years hard use.

Favorite Features

I love fact that with the rear seats down I can lay flat in the back, I'm 5'11 and have no trouble sleeping in the car.

Suggested Improvements

The only real improvements I could use are one, the cupholders cover the radio, and two, the ground clearence could be a bit higher, though 7" is more then most cars.

Overall I was inpressed with the reliablity and cars ablity to hold to together under high milage conditions. Tranmision last about 150,000 to 170,000 miles. My front seats out before the car does. With a overhale and rebiuld it would be as good as new except you have to think about it only worth about three grand in good condition.

Favorite Features

Power Mirrors,Cruis, Back Seat Fold Down, and Power Windows and Locks.

Suggested Improvements

Could use a better radio and speakers.

This thing will not die, I swear. I have 191,000 miles on it, and the engine is running absolutly perfect. I've changed both front CV joints, and the transmission is getting a little out of sync or something like that (doesn't shift into reverse as fast as it used to). I also love how it doesn't have a speed limiter/speed cut out (not naming how fast it's gone for legal reasons :D)

Favorite Features

I absolutely love the hand Emergency/Park brake. Very fun to use for "Rallying" on gravel roads.

Suggested Improvements

A little more power would be nice, but it has a sufficient amount for a family car of its size. Would be awesome in a two door, because of less weight.

Been an exelent car but with high milage many things needed to be replaced. Somthing to look out for is that the frunt pully is kept tight or may break the crank shaft

With over 200,000 miles, my Legacy runs like a champ! I have replaced: - CV joints twice - front and rear struts - the clutch twice - the alternator twice - shocks once It handles well in snow, the engine doesn't "click", the doors close with a solid "chunk", I now 29 mpg Very little surface rust and the paint still looks good. It's not the sharpest car in the parking lot but it's been paid for for a LONG time and it still runs like a champ!
