This car is an excellent buy for the money. Overall value is excellent. Body design is main stream. All wheel drive system is unsurpassed. Drive train is adequate. Interior seating looks cheap, but it is very comfortable. Drivers side seat has a barber chair style manual crank up & down function that works beautifully. The radio is extremely sub-par, but the rest of this car is a class leader. If you compare features & cost, this is an unbeatable value.

Favorite Features

Driveability. Excellent in harsh weather conditions.

Suggested Improvements

MUST improve on the quality of the radio.

Review

I got the manual, I'm really happy with it. I'm a taller guy and usually hit my head on the roof of most small cars when I sit straight up or lean forward, not the impreza, plenty of room. After test driving a Mazda3, Elantra, Civic, and Toyota Matrix, and renting all sorts of economy cars all summer, I was surprised at how much more powerful it felt, how much better it handled and how much nicer the interior looked than most of the other cars in this price range. It feels great on the highway and the steering feels tight, handles nice around corners, the other cars I test drove felt sloppy. The seats and seating position are more comfortable than most small cars which tend to feel awkward.

Favorite Features

It drives really good, is comfortable, and has more than enough power to feel fun (at least with the manual). Even without the all wheel drive it would be better than most similarly priced cars, and if you want the AWD, nothing else even comes close. Everything but the stereo system is pretty solid.

Suggested Improvements

One of the first things you notice when you first get in the car is WOW this "premium" stereo sounds like junk! No Bluetooth. $400 to enable sat radio. It would be nice if it had automatic climate control instead of the hi/low hot/cold so I wouldn't have to be fiddling with it all the time.

Review

Just under 1,000 miles so far, which means I can start going a little higher on the revs. That's scary, because even at 4k-5k, the acceleration is phenomenal! Outstanding pick up at low mph or highway level. Very smooth. Got two window roll-downs from other drivers on my first day saying it looks great and asking how it drives. That just doesn't normally happen. I wish the front under-fender (I'm not really an expert, so I'm sure that's not the name) were a little higher for curbs, but I think I can get that changed. Averaging 24 mpg so far, but I've been driving it pretty hard, lots of city, and it's still breaking in. Most fun car I've ever driven. Can't wait to take it skiing!

Favorite Features

Awesome engine/acceleration, short-throw shifter, auto-dim mirror. Plenty of room for my dog, skis, and luggage in hatchback.

Suggested Improvements

Ground clearance in front, stereo not super-powerful (but also not too bad for regular driving).

Review

I have 350 miles on my new sube, and it corners very well. I got the sedan 5spd, the throw on the shifter is a bit long but I really enjoy driving the car. I looked at a Civic and a Mazda 3, but I do not like FWD, because of the odd pull on hard corners. Thus far a wonderful car, wonderful traction in rain, and just all around a great car. The inside looks good, bit cheap looking with the plastic, but you are going to get that with a base model car. It was built 100% in Japan, parts and built, I have no doubt of its quality, And the dark gray paint with no orange peel looks steller. I LOVE MY SUBIE!!!

Favorite Features

AWD! No off-camber pull and traction! Fun to drive even below 3k during the brake in period. I am euro shifting to keep the RPMs low during break in, it still has power, and feels wonderful! Great car.

Suggested Improvements

Nothing, well possibly make the rear end look a little better on the sedan. It looks good, just not as good as the 3, to my eye.

New impreza outback sport

Review

First, why have two different vehicles both named, "outback"? With the impreza, you wind up getting Outback parts that don't fit your car. Cheap radio---10 speakers, if you can find them--Probably the worst sounding radio one will ever find in any automobile. Paint is so soft, just looking at it will start it to peel! Passenger seat is so low, it actually hides the passenger from view. Does not have the fit, finish and refinement of other cars in its class. You are purchasing a working-mans auto, for basic transportation. No thrills here, but the 170 HP engine is a bit surprising, due to his high torque #s. You get what you pay for....and this automobile is down market.

Favorite Features

4-wheel drive, all weather mats, 5-door hatchback, 17 inch tires

Suggested Improvements

Get rid of the love-affair with all the interior plastic. How about a key with all the inputs on it instead of on a separate fixture. Try finding a better paint supplier while you outsource your radio vendor as well.

Review

This is my first Subie after years owning German cars. I am really surprised at this little package of fun & all-wheel-drive. It is very comfortable and seems much bigger when sitting in it then I expected. I also had my eye on the Mazda 3 but was sold on the AWD.

Favorite Features

The AWD, the seats are more comfortable then they look. Also I really like the red dashboard lighting.

Suggested Improvements

Some of the plastic feels a little cheap. Offer an upgraded stereo. Maybe a leather option.
