EDITORS' RATINGS OVERALL SCORE:

Overall

RATING

Overall the Impreza model line is a reasonably good value. There's a broad range of styles covering every buyer base -- from those who only want all-wheel-drive utility to those who want a rally car for the street.

DETAILED EDITORS' RATINGS

Dynamics

RATING

Two engines and transmissions cover the entire Impreza model line. As a whole, the Impreza's all-wheel drive imparts it with above-average handling and all-weather utility. WRX and WRT STI models are both quick and very fun to drive.

Comfort

RATING

There's a broad range of comfort among Impreza styles based on their sportiness. Base models are quiet and comfortable. The STI is louder and has a busier ride.

Function

RATING

For the most part, functionality in the Impreza lineup is good. Subaru's navigation system (where equipped) can be difficult to use and isn't as good as many competitors. Cargo space is good across the line in both body styles.

Design/Build Quality

RATING

We like the Impreza's styling -- especially in the broad-shouldered WRX STI. Material and assembly quality are average for the segment.

DETAILED PROFILE:

Daily Commuter Imprezas meet many targets but commuting is probably the best fit.

High Performer WRX and WRX STI styles are both excellent performance cars.

Family Friendly All Imprezas are good family sedans able to haul four people in comfort.
