I'm looking for studded snow tires for my 2008 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport. This is the ski car so the snow tires have to be good. Prices for the stock tire size (P205/50R17) run well over $200 per tire, I suspect because they're low profile and sexy. Holy suffering catfish!! I'm wondering if second set of wheels to use as winter wheels with normal-profile utilitarian non-sexy and much less expensive snow ... Read More
From experience with "computer controlled" AWD is they only function when getting unstuck and moving slow and you still don't get that sheer grip that Subaru's get. (Check out videos on YouTube). VW, Nissan, Toyota, etc all function about the same. It's not anywhere near the same as all-time AWD like Subaru. I like having all-time AWD because the car doesn't have to "think" about it and I have solid traction ... Read More
@xwesx Firstly, thank you for your input. As my experience with Subaru is limited (two) I find it odd that my 2009 Forester allows me to utilize defrost with the vents closed but not on the 2011 impreza? As for when the defroster is needed, turn on the AC, this will clear the fog. Seems Subaru thought of this with the 2008 forester... note from a friend: So I checked mine ... Read More
Issue at hand. Subaru has made an unsafe decision for the owners of the 2011 impreza. Windshield and windshield / foot well defroster will only work with outside air. Subaru therefore is telling me, if you want to see out of our car, the driver MUST in-hail the noxious fumes from the diesel truck in front. How is this safe? My 2008 Forester Limited will allow the windshield defroster to function ... Read More
Agree. Unfortunately, like with all such things, even if the rest of the world gets it, this will never see the light of day in the USDM region. It took Subaru a lot of persuasion to even consider bringing the original 2002 WRX but when they finally did bring it, it sold like hotcakes. They expected 10% of the 2002 Impreza sales to be via the WRX but their projections got ... Read More

I agree with you that it's not normal. What I'm wondering is if the normally aspirated 2008 Imprezas will end up developing serious engine problems like some of the 2008 WRX models requiring new engines at early mileage. I haven't seen anything like that yet on the forums, regarding the lower-end Imprezas. I just hope this engine doesn't blow up on me in the middle of some road trip, 200 miles ... Read More
Okay....non-turbo. AKA as non-trouble. Does not help in the knocking/pinging department. I wonder if there are any tech service bullentins about this problem from Subaru. I am shopping for a new Subaru, and I ran across the following deal. This particular dealer has two new 2008 Impreza base models with no optional equipment. Fitz has a Impreza outback sport 5m at that price, you need to get 1000 more off for a 5d premium..... The outback sport has heated seats and a couple more nice things.
First thing I would do is compare to fitzmall.com's price for a similar model.
I have been offered this car for 18,500.00 plus TT&L. Note this is the hatchback style with manual transmission but with the premium package. I'd appreciate feedback from people on this price. Thank you!
We were quoted a price of $19700 +$500 dealer fee for a 2008 automatic impreza ouback sport. The msrp is $22,281. It has a few extras, like the auto dimming mirror with compass and homelink. Is this a good price? Should I keep working it or just take it? We are in Denver, CO. Thanks so much.
I'd be happy to, csalute. First let's take a look at the selling price that you were quoted. A base 2008 Subaru Impreza 2.5i Sedan has an gap of around $750 between its full MSRP and its dealer invoice price. So what you're saying is neither US wagon or Sedan had VDC in the GT?? I am wondering that given the fact that you do track the wagon and say you wish you had VDC That's exactly right. The 265HP engine is what the 2008 WRX should have come out of the gate with, at a MINIMUM, especially with 278HP Toyota Camries and Honda Accords running rampant. I think the 2008 Imprezas (unlike the 2000 lbs rating of the prior generation) are not rated to tow ? If so, then would there be any issues with fitting a hitch onto them ? I'm surprised with the poor sales on the AT WRX. I am not surprised at all. Subaru deliberately crippled the AT version, with a 4-speed AT, when even $13K Honda Fits have been appearing for several years with a 5-speed AT.
