2006 Subaru Impreza WRX TR 4dr Sedan AWD (2.5L 4cyl Turbo 5M)

Review

It's been an amazing car, really fun to drive, quick response, no turbo lag, AWD and need I say more. I've put in over $4k in mods. and it's a beast.

Favorite Features

2.5L turbo engine, quick spool time, acceleration, handling, AWD and crazy mods. Mods. And mods.

Suggested Improvements

Speakers stink, black side mirror could've been color matched, depending on driver, the stock clutch wasn't made to be abused. Climate control would've been nice. I know it's a TR, but paying over $20k, you would've expected a lil' more. Still a loyal subie guy.

2006 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport 4dr Wagon AWD (2.5L 4cyl 5M)

Review

No problems at all so far. It has been driven 40,000 miles and pulled (behind RV) another 10,000. All 4 tires just replaced, besides that, nothing but oil changes. Never below 25 MPG and only a couple of times above 30 MPG - good but not FANTASTIC.

Favorite Features

All wheel drive is great on snowy mountain roads.

Suggested Improvements

Improve gas mileage.

I have owned this car for 3 yrs now. Drove it stock for 2yrs and modified this last yr. With $2k worth of upgrades - this is a beast with 300 lbft of torque. Have driven it over mountain passes in Colorado in blizzard conditions without issues. Insane handling on any type of road with the right set of tires. Only regret is that I should have bought the STI at the time for the bullet proof 6 sp transmission. (only required if you plan to upgrade to >400hp)

Favorite Features

Neck-snapping, throw-u-back-in-the-seat acceleration and the amazing handling and control on any road surface.

Suggested Improvements

Sound insulation is non existent. A little couldn't hurt.

The STi is the perfect car for Idaho, its fun to drive in the summer and can go anywhere in the winter.

Favorite Features

The all-wheel drive and large turbo make it an ideal car.

Suggested Improvements

Would love it if the back seat folded down for skis.

Soon after purchase of this vehicle, I noticed that the paint degraded wherever bird droppings were, even after a few days. My car is midnight blue. I have attempted to remedy this through my dealership for over one year without resolution. I have not had this problem with my Toyota, Ford or Volvo. In forty years of owning cars I have not encountered this problem, nor such an unsatisfactory response from a company. It is a cute car and fun to drive, but don't be tempted.

Favorite Features

Fun to drive, performs very well in rain.

Suggested Improvements

Improve paint quality, and consumer response.

Review

I bought this as a "micro SUV" -- the 2006 RAV4 had only an automatic and was $4000 more. Handling is great; the Impreza moves confidently through snow and heavy rains on hilly roads. With a roof rack, transport capacity is terrific. With some planning, and multiple trips, I can move most the loads that a pickup can take. I tow a 1500 pound camper (towing capacity is 2400 lbs -- largest in this group). The one drawback is lower MPG. I am getting mid 20s. My previous car was a 96 Saturn sedan, which was getting in the mid 30s, but did not have the power, or handling in snow.

Favorite Features

AWD, handling, hugs the road.

Suggested Improvements

improve the MPG; heater/AC is pretty modest.

This has been a great car. It is so much fun to drive, too bad the law doesn't let me experience this car to its fullest extend. Everything is well thought out. Can't get used to the new model so I'll stick with this one.

Favorite Features

Everything is so well laid out and driver friendly, really wouldn't change a thing.

Suggested Improvements

Close ratio shifting could be a little better so that you have a better idea where you are at when you go from 2nd to 3rd. If you over do it, you find yourself way over at 5th.

I have had this car for about 3 and a half years and it now has 55,611 miles on it. I must say that this car is a beast. I love how it handles, accelerates, and brakes. It works wonderfully in the NJ snowstorms and can launch to 60 in under 5 seconds. The mileage is ok, but that's what you get for a turbocharged vehicle. I get about 18MPG all around on 93 Octane (Shell V-Power). I have driven this car around the country and have never doubted its reliability once. It has never left me stuck and has always brought me to point B safely. I recommend this car to everybody who enjoys a 5SPD and whiplash inducing thrust.

Favorite Features

5 Speed Manual, SPT performance parts, AWD system, race inspired front seats, top mount intercooler and turbocharger, 6 CD changer, exhaust note and the great versatility.

Suggested Improvements

AUX Jack from the 2007 WRX, HID headlights, Red "STI style" gauges, sportier exhaust. Just suggested add-ons but no complaints whatsoever.

2006 Subaru Impreza 2.5 i 4dr Wagon AWD (2.5L 4cyl 4A)

Review

I love my Subie. I drove trucks for years, this was my first Subaru, it's so much nicer to drive and gets much better MPG. I get 23-25 city, and 27- 28 highway. It has a great compromise between power and economy. I can tow and launch my jetskis at the beach at Pismo, then haul up snow covered roads to ski on a powder day. No problems in 42,000 miles at all. I do more with my little Impreza that most people will ever do with their gas guzzling, boring and hard to drive SUVs. It makes me want to drive fast and race or jump it. Its rally car roots really show through.

Favorite Features

Handling, power, economy, seats, boxer engine, symmetrical AWD works great in ice and snow, looks, tow rating.

Suggested Improvements

Light in cargo area in wagon and map light on base model.

2006 Subaru Impreza 2.5 i 4dr Wagon AWD (2.5L 4cyl 4A)

Review

There is no other comparable vehicle at the price. It cost around $21,000 at the time and is fairly loaded. All Wheel Drive (AWD) was not available in an American car, only trucks and SUVs, when I leased this vehicle. Every other AWD vehicle was well over $30,000. Although I drive conservatively, my favorite part of a trip is the twisty roads and exit ramps - because the car rides like it is on rails around turns. Heater works exceptional, even on the coldest Detroit, Cleveland and Pittsburgh days. 4 cylinder with plenty of power, even uphill and sips gas. Subaru builds quality small vehicles, not every manufacturer does that. Will probably purchase at the lease expiration.

Favorite Features

The combination of All Wheel Drive with about 29-30 mpg on the highway and at least 25+mpg in the city. Good torque, even in the base 4 cylinder engine.

Suggested Improvements

Seat belt chime silence after a few minutes. The chime is incessant while trying to warm the parked car up in winter. More comfortable headrest position, tends to always push my chin to my chest. What causes the Clunk on a cold day? It is like all the wheels are trying to get in sync.
