Review of the 2004 Subaru Impreza

  • From the TS Sport Wagon to the WRX, the all-wheel-drive Impreza is a practical, fun-to-drive alternative to the typically dull cars that populate this segment of the market.

  • Safety
  • Pros

A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from, fun to drive.

  • Cons

Often pricey when compared to its competition, tight rear quarters.

  • What's New for 2004

For 2004, all Imprezas sport revised front and rear fascias -- gone are the oddball circular headlamps in favor of a more mainstream wedge-shaped design. In addition, all models get upgraded suspension struts (to improve ride quality and steering response), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, a collapsible pedal system, revised gauges and a new stereo faceplate. The WRX and Outback Sport receive projector beam foglights. Inside, WRX models have new sport seats, a central tachometer and darker gray faux metal accents. The TS wagon, Outback Sport and RS sedan add an in-glass antenna, active front head restraints, central power door lock switch and multireflector halogen headlights. Further, the TS now has four-wheel disc brakes. The RS sedan's keyless entry system now has an audible confirmation feature, and keyless entry is now standard on the TS. Finally, the WRX sedan is now available with a Premium Package that includes a sunroof, trunk spoiler, heated mirrors, heated front seats and a wiper de-icer.

I like the way my WRX Wagon handles the corners, Iv only got it to drift on drit roads which was easy to controll. As far as power when I need to pass I hit the turbo at 4000 rpm and Im gone. It took a little while for me to get ajusted to the clutch and power band. The AC works well The kids feel it in the back right away, have"nt need heater yet.

Once you are moving 20 miles an hour, this car is an absolute blast. You can FLY. I look forward to my commute every day. Negatively, the other reviews are correct in their assertion that unless you abuse the clutch, the little Honda Civic at the light next to you can keep up with you for far too long. However, this does allow for great everyday driving and getting good miles like the Civic.

Warning: i got a lemon

Just a warning. I now have 17000 miles on the car and it has been seven trips to the dealership. The brakes disintegrated, the alternator and battery were defective, the car was recalled for a parking brake problem, another brake problem (brake light).

More fun than my 2000

What a great car! I got the 2004 Impreza WRX Wagon for my fiance, and now I'm sad ...coz I'd rather drive it than my loaded Beemer 328i! The Subaru isn't luxurious, but it's built like a tank and the performance is awesome. The only downside to this car is throttle response, due to the fact we got the auto tranny (Mrs. can't drive stick) and the engine is a turbo afterall. But once the RPMs get over 4000 it goes like a rocket, power builds nicely and you're soon going too fast with a big grin. Can't wait to get out the WRX on some twisties this weekend!
