took delivery of my 2014 xt forester 3 days ago and already have 800 miles on it.
in general i am very happy with my purchase.
in broad strokes the 2013 forester is much prettier from the outside, but the interior of the 2014 is drastically improved.
the regular 2014 forester is much more attractive from the outside, than the xt.
that being said, i bought the xt for how it ran.
very well. very quick and smooth.
the xt can run on regular, but don't do it unless you have to b/c it will cost you more.
87 octane gets 19-22 city and 22-24 hwy.
93 octane gets 24-27 city and 28-31 hwy (hwy speed 68-78mph).
huge difference in mpg for a little more at the pump. do it.
so far, great car!!!
great stereo in the touring.
very easy to hook up my phone. the fuel milage is superb!
it accelerates brilliantly, and grips the road like nothing else i have ever driven.... including my wife's xdrive bmw x3.
even with all of the bells and whistles added on the touring, it still has a very utilitarian/subaru feel to it.
i am hoping and praying for the typical subaru durability and longevity. i will have to wait and see.
the interior is much improved from the year before. GREAT back seat! for those of you who change your own oil, the oil filter is on top!
test drove a tiguan ( too small), rav4 (a car), crv (put me to sleep) a tdi toureg (awesome but 20k more) a cx5 (why?). chose well.
the back windows do not roll down all of the way.
there are no ac vents for the back seats coming from the center console.
there is no power seat for the passenger side, and on the touring there should really be one.
i am not a fan of the flat touch screen for the radio/audio controlls, regular buttons and knobs work better.
compared to the competition, there is a little too much road noise. you wont notice the road noise with the reg engine because you hear the motor instead. the wheels on the XT are to die for.... if you are 16 years old.
i think the 2013 xt is much more attractive from the exterior design stand point, less overdone. but not many buy a subaru because it looks pretty.
addendum: 1700 miles and loving it.
tons of power.
85% hwy and 15% city with fairly aggressive driving and overall avg 26.5mpg so far.
i also drive dirt roads about 5 miles per day, and this thing grips the road like nothing i have ever driven. the cvt is superb.
traditional transmissions now annoy me.
