2011 Subaru Forester 2.5X 4dr SUV AWD (2.5L 4cyl 5M)
Review
Noisy engine lots of clatter sounds like a bunch of bolts in a blender.
The spare tire procedure is ridiculous. you have to switch to 2wheel drive by adding a fuse and then removing it after going back to a full size tire
Why not provide a full size spare to start with?
Favorite Features
Adequate cargo area
Traditional SUV look.
Suggested Improvements
Quieter engine.
Improve transmission.
Full size spare, eliminate the need to change to
2 wheel drive when using the spare.
Go back to regular oil instead of synthetic.
The engines on all Subarus have always been on the noisy side, especially the 4 cyl ones. But... For 2011, Subaru has tweaked the engine on their new Forester to emit less of a tractor noise :-)
As to the spare tire change, I fully understand the procedure. When the spare is smaller, the wheels spin at different speeds and that will damage the AWD system. So, until you get a fully blown tire, it's wise to disengage the AWD to save 1000s of dollars on AWD system replacement. Why didn't Subaru include a full size spare is also clear like dat -- cost cutting. If you want a full size spare -- buy it.
