Wish we knew more of the details of 5 engine failures on 2 cars. There is a company in Florida which builds complete Subaru engine packages for aircraft. They started with the 2.5 and are now build with the 3.0L 6 cylinder. They have had great success with the Subaru engines. I believe they have sold several thousand by now. My only Subaru engine failure was on a 1979 Wagon way ... Read More
Defeatist attitude? That does not come into play. I only work on what I see as durability. Our 1994 and 1995 Impreza models were great cars. After over-researching replacement tires in December 2007, I selected the Bridgestone Potenzas. While they were noisy, they were great for handling. I maintained tire pressure, balance, and alignment for the past 3 years. Despite putting less than 30k on these tires, there is a sidewall crack in the rear passenger tire. In May 2011, I went to get a 6-month rotation, and the tire folks wouldn't do it because they said ... Read More
I had a feeling this was at the core of the issue. What you are saying, and what the dealer did not tell me is that the lower viscosity will lower the oil pump pressure and lower the load on the engine in order to increase MPG. OK everyone, thanks for your input. Although I did not get a definitive answer from a certified Subarua tech person I think there is enough evidence here for me to make a decision. 1) A Forester with manual transmission can be towed all wheels down, it can't be towed with the front Two wheels on a dolly. 2) No way shape or form can an Automatic transmission Subaru be towed for ... Gotcha. There is a seperate slot for the map DVD, FWIW. for me the Forester was too small when I was looking in 2007 Actually, I kinda wish they'd kept the Forester the same size. I was very excited about finally getting a new car for me since the kids are older. First off it starts off very rough in the morning for about 20 secs. Happens again after work. Does not happen in between if driving in less than 8 hrs.So of course it ... Read More
First, let me say thanks for all the responses, it is greatly appreciated. I have a case number, I've been nice but firm about not wanting my three-year-old daughter to have to smell the fumes that make even me a little nauseous... After being told a scenario by an otherwise incredibly rude and abrupt supervisor in customer service that if my car cost $5k to trade in that Subaru might pick ... Read More
hey man, i've got a 2007 subaru forester sports as well (bought it in may). and have the same sort of smell that you're talking about--kind of a warm plastic smell coming from under the hood, can't smell it unless the windows are open or you're outside the car with it running, it's more evident after driving for quite a while, etc. my problem is that it's not always smelling, and ... I got a 2007 Forester Sports X in March 2007 because I was so happy with my 2004 Forester X. Just one problem with a brake switch causing the car not to shift out of park one day...but that was fixed. Love the car in theory and in general...BUT.... I have a BIGGER problem...a terrible smell coming from the engine whenever the car gets hot. The dealer tech smelled it right ... Read More

We caved in and traded the Forester for a new 2007 Honda Accord EX-L. Our Forester was an early 2002-but Subaru and dealer both said it was not one of the identified problem motors. I told the Subaru Service Manager that I will never ever own another Subaru. Subaru clearly knows there is a design flaw, that is why they put the chemical additive in the coolant at 48,000 miles-which plugged ... Read More
How do I connect a trailer with trailer brakes to my 2007 Forester? I bought the tow package with the 07, but it only has a four-prong connector for brake lights and turn signals. The people selling me a pop-up tent trailer say I must have a 7-prong connector to connect the trailer's brakes to the Forester, but that Subaru must install it. When I went to Subaru, they said that ... Read More
You must be comparing Premium models. Subaru simply dropped the price on the Premium trim by around $900 for the '08s... invoice for a Premium automatic is $22,726 in '08 and $23,623 in '07. The other trims for '08 are priced similarly from '07. I'd go for the '08 as long as you're getting a good deal on it. You should be able to get invoice minus $500 rebate, minus somewhere ... All of them do quite well, so any differences are minor. The Forester lacks curtain air bags but the front side air bags protec the front passengers' heads, so only the rear seat passengers are not protected. It managed a Good score from IIHS without them. The lower-to-the-ground Legacy GT probably handles the best but it's no longer offered as a wagon for 2008. Find a 2007 model, or pick from ... Read More
My recent experience purchasing a Forester 2.5x was the best ever, thanks to the information provided by this forum. To return the favor, here are the particulars of my deal. I purchased a new 2007 end of year model (108 miles on the OD) from Stohlman in Tysons Corner Virginia. My salesperson was the most laid back fellow I've ever encountered in a dealership. I won't violate the forum rules by ... Read More
It was the X, but with one of the packages included (rubber floor mats, cargo area mat and mud flaps).
$19k for a new XT would be highway robbery!!!
Congrats, Maria.
Must be the X; leather is standard on the XT, unless it is a Sports.
Is it X or XT? Can you get 2k rebate on XT?
Just wanted to let everyone know what I paid for a basic Forester XT, June 2007, at Carlsen in Redwood City, CA: What I bought: Forester XT, chamapagne color Automatic transmission Mud flaps All-weather rubber mats Rear rubber bumper guard Rear plastic cargo tray Cost: $19,000 (which included the $625 destination charge and a $2K rebate that went to the dealer). I then added on leather seats (front and back) for ... Read More
My 2000 Forester has had to have 3 O2 Sensors, 3 rear wheel bearings, and 2 head gaskets replaced. Does anyone know if these issues have been alleviated in the 2007 models? Any independent reviews I can read with proof in regards to these problems? I am trading in my 2000, and not sure if I want to deal with more potential problems, although I love other features about the car. ... Read More
Hello Kathy. I see that you are considering trading in your current vehicle when leasing the new Forester that you are interested in. There's nothing wrong with trading in your current car or truck when leasing a new one, in fact many states give tax breaks to consumers who trade in their vehicles, however it would be in your best interest to have the dealer that you are working with cut ... Here's the info that you're looking for, David. Subaru Auto Finance's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 24 month lease of a 2007 Subaru Forester XT with 10,000 miles per year are .00200 and 63%, respectively. The numbers for an otherwise identical 36 month lease are .00280 and 54%. When negotiating your lease on this vehicle, make sure to take advantage of the $1,000 lease cash ... Read More
My Miata started smelling "stale", so I opened up the fresh air vents and sprayed in some Lysol. It is 14 years old, though.
