2008 Scion xB 4dr Wagon (2.4L 4cyl 4A)

Review

When buying the Scion xB I wondered if it might be a mistake on my part because let's face it the Scion name hasn't been around as long as its parent company Toyota. However much like the ugly duckling story, I found that once I got used to the boxy looks (nowhere near as bad as last year's design) I found that I love this little car! I traded in a gas loving 2004 Ford Explorer that I had named slurpy and when I filled the Scion up for the first time I found that my gas cost were going to be cut in half and still getting about the same total mileage out of my tank as I did with my Explorer. My opinion, if you can get over the odd looks of the car I highly recommend it!

Favorite Features

VERY roomy! Lots of standard features.

Suggested Improvements

Still needs to be a little less boxy. But you're going in the right direction!

Review

I bought my Scion lasy Saturday and I have to say that I am very Impressed with this vehicle. For the price, it is really a great buy and it is fun to drive. Now I make up excuses to go out and drive. With all the accessories for it, it really makes it become your very own extension of yourself. I highly recommend anyone to give it a try and test drive one and you will get one for yourself.

Favorite Features

Comfortable to drive. Great stereo.

I am 6'4" and 230 lbs. I am not their normal customer. I am a 43 year old single male who uses this for my business. The fact that I fit in it with extra room, it came with many options, it gets awesome gas mileage, and it's a Toyota made buying it a no brainer. I'd buy it again!

Favorite Features

The interior space, I fit!

Suggested Improvements

Drivers arm rest is useless.

Review

We had a 2005 xB, but it was totaled in a wreck. It crashed well, and we decided to go ahead with a new '08. We like the new safety feature of a side curtain airbag. The ride is smoother, the acceleration faster, and the noise level has been greatly decreased. My wife and I have both noticed that you have to keep an eye on the speedometer as you can be going 80+ and not realize it. We got 30-32 MPG with the '05, but only get 26-28 MPG with the new '08. It handles well, but I occasionally have a problem with the ground clearance. I have to be careful backing out of driveways with a sharp drop off. The "cyclops" backup light is no brighter than a regular backup light, so only half the light.

Favorite Features

The added room inside is nice. The bigger engine is nice. I really like that it's quiter and rides smoother than previous models. I really appreciate that it doesn't look so obnoxious this time.

Suggested Improvements

The improvements are nice, but not at the sacrifice of efficiency. I wondered why they didn't offer a 1.8 liter engine as an option. The old 1.5 liter engine performed just fine. Most of the colors were hidious, so we went with the white. The sound system is weak compared with the '05.

This is a fun car! Just bought my 2008 HB I really like it. Although thought I would get better gas mileage. Great look and it provides the much needed space that smaller cars typically don't. Love it!!

Favorite Features

Nautical blue color, shape, space, stereo, Camry engine sold me. And the Toyota reputation of course.

Suggested Improvements

Blind spot, larger arm rest, one for the passenger, more comfortable seats. Overall nice job on the 2008.

2008 Scion xB 4dr Wagon (2.4L 4cyl 4A)

Review

I have had my xB for about a week. I traded in a 2003 Honda Element when I bought this vehicle. I have to say that the Scion, with its upgraded engine, seems to be a better car than the Element. More comfortable seats, less rattles, better handling and better mileage. I think the xB is a good value for the money when you consider expected depreciation, good mileage, Toyota reliability, and cute factor. I think you get a lot of car for the price.

Favorite Features

Decent factory radio, real solid feel, the car just seems screwed together tightly. Handles great around turns, no body roll, low center of gravity, good seats for an inexpensive car, fairly quiet inside for the price range, good braking characteristics, quick for a 4cyl heavy car.

Suggested Improvements

Do something with the cheesy armrest, add telescoping wheel.

2008 Scion xB 4dr Wagon (2.4L 4cyl 4A)

Review

I love it! It's the perfect blend of slick, unique styling inside and out and urban-living functionality, all at a great price, with a great engine, sound system, and tons of cool extras all standard. I traded in my 2003 BSP Toyota Matrix for a 2008 HTM xB. I liked the xB1 but it had too many flaws for me to consider it for my next purchase. Perfect timing for a redesign. Drastically improved exterior, interior, and under the hood over the previous generation. Still has the unique, quirky-but-cool boxy look, Toyota reliability, low base price, extremely well engineered convenience and functionality, awesome upgrade Pioneer stereo. The xB possesses that "fun-to-drive" factor in excess.

Favorite Features

Exterior/Interior design and materials/colors, massive cargo space, good fuel economy, strong engine, iPod interface, upgrade stereo, steering wheel audio controls, power everything, great options list, tons of cup/bottle holders, digital speedometer, center gauges, etc.

Suggested Improvements

Larger and lower armrest also maybe one for passenger side, slightly better fuel economy, factory subwoofer (although I think that's coming), HID option :)

Love it but C-pillar has blindspot

Review

Love it but C-pillar is 2-feet wide so there's a blindspot which caused me to hit a pole when I backed up. Luckily, the bumper was real steel, not plastic so damage was minimal and I only needed a new bumper cover and light.

Favorite Features

Everything.

Suggested Improvements

Narrow th C-pillar, add a rear backup sonar, add sunroof. I had to buy a sunvisor because the driver's side window is so long that the sun hits my eyes from the side. Bigger gas tank would be nicer because I get 23 mpg in the city so range is about 260 w/automatic trans.

I love this car - it's everything I was looking for and more. I was driving a Honda Civic before, and this car is so much better in every respect - handling, power, room, style, options, ride, etc. The only thing I miss is the 31 MPG I got with my old car - now I get about 27 (90% city). Even so, it's worth the tradeoff for all the other great things about this car.

Favorite Features

Ride, handling, power, style, options, coolness factor, price, value, roominess!

Suggested Improvements

Gas mileage.
