My 2008 scion XB has 80k and I first noticed the problem around 70k. My solution has been to get my oil changed every 3,000 so I don't have to worry too much about it although I do check the oil every 300 miles another solution I was thinking of was to switch to a heavier oil instead of the recommended 0-20/5-20 I was thinking of switching to 5-30 at my ... Thanks for the reply and believe it or not, it was the exact problem you described. However, when I first took it to the Milford, CT Toyota/Scion dealer, they never mentioned the rodent/mice issue. There was debris left by the critter and the wires had been chewed through. The Aamco transmission place never mentioned this either and told me it might cost up to $4,000 to repair. My son finally took ... Read More
I had the exact same problem with my Scion which is also an 2008 Automatic Scion xD. The code read something was wrong with my transmission, and I was not able to go into 4th gear which was using my gas faster. Toyota released a TSB for oil consumption on Nov 11, 2011, but it only covers toyota models. Hopefully they do the right thing and include Scions which use the same 4cyl 2AZ-FE motor. Here's a summary of the TSB (notice they loosened their acceptable standard for oil usage from 1qt/600miles to 1qt/1200miles; still a lot IMO, but hopefully enough to satisfy the owners of cars with excessive oil consumption): T-SB-0094-11 on ... no, it sounds like you are being taken advantage of, because who replaces only the right rear pads? nonsense. Also, brake pads are ONLY even sold as a set to fully service both sides.
