  I had the exact same problem with my Scion which is also an 2008 Automatic Scion xD. The code read something was wrong with my transmission, and I was not able to go into 4th gear which was using my gas faster.   Toyota released a TSB for oil consumption on Nov 11, 2011, but it only covers toyota models. Hopefully they do the right thing and include Scions which use the same 4cyl 2AZ-FE motor.   Iam having the exact same problem .I think it could be linked to the computer ,when the engine starts to help the car to slow down it causes the transmission to have a hard down shift. I have noticed it dose it more when the weather is warn. I have an appoiment later this week.

  I have a 2008 scion xb at 500 miles its stated having a popping noise in the transmission area .Very hard down hard down shift .I have taken the car to the dealer 3 times allready .My next appoiment is 1-08 .I have contacted scon world wide and have 2 cases numbers .But no one can find or fix it .its starting to get very old fast.

  I just bought my Scion XD and I love it. It drives really well and I'm already starting to upgrade different things on the car, it is very addictive.

  It appears that Toyota is now too big. They are going to take the General Motors Trophy for producing the most Junk. The customer is never right. They already have your money, just go away. It can be repaired, but why would they.

  Many complaints on this!!! Its a weekly problem at the dealership. They do know about it but you wont find them addressing it. My trans is bad.

  Simple, just go to Crutchfield and put in a 2008 xB and it will tell you what fits where. Looks to be 6 1/2" in the front doors, same as the gen 1 xBs. I think you also have to be careful (like the 1st gen) if you just replace the front door speakers since the dash mount "tweeters" are wired in parallel with the front door mid-range speakers.   - The 2008 Scion xB is too low. It's not even as tall as the 2007 Toyota Matrix. It it several inches less-tall than the new VUE, CR-V, or RAV4. What a shame. The 2008 xB is too hard to squeeze down into for this tall person, whereas the VUE, CR-V, and RAV4 have much better ingress\egress, but are too pricey. The Chevy HHR is just a joke. -

  I tested the Fit (every bump noticeable), the Versa (a nice ride), and bought the x/b. Why? I have wanted a Scion since they first came out. I like the concept even though I don't fit their demographics (over 50). So far I have only gotten to take the test drive. I pick up the Silver Streak tomorrow.
