Bad Gas Mileage/Frequent Visits to the Shop
Vehicle
2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 5M)
Review
At 28,000 miles the best mileage I've gotten is 36 mpg once. Most of the time I'm lucky to get 33 mpg highway. I commute 90 miles daily and I'm not getting the mileage that I expected, which was one key factor in choosing the car. When I asked a Scion dealership about it, I was given the same excuse others have been - those are just estimates and there is not much they can do about it. On top of the gas mileage issue, my car has been in the shop three times. The first time was to to replace the radio that changed channels by itself. The second time to replace the Camhead assembly and the third time it was leaking between where the gas nozzle goes and the tank. It was all warranty work, but I'm almost out of warranty - then what? At this rate I'll be broke.
Favorite Features
It is fun to drive and has lots of leg room for adult passengers, even in the back seat. It has a very good sounding radio.
Suggested Improvements
Give it more cargo room in the hatch (including more room with the tire is to store a 'real' jack), better fuel economy, and keyless entry. Make variable intermittent wipers and an intermittent rear wiper standard. Add a 6th gear - the car drives hard at highway speeds. Sometimes it feels like I forgot to shift up a gear.

Gift for My Daughter
Vehicle
2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 4A)
Review
My daughter's first car had to be safe, affordable, and cool by her terms. I am very pleased that I purchased this car for her. She loves it a lot. If you could only be there as she drove it for the first time her smile still will remain in my memory for a long time. The car is better than I would have thought, because of all its perks like all the room inside, the style outside, and that it only cost $20.00 to fill the tank. Also, the ride is okay, I guess for its style, but you know that teens like my daughter only care about what is on the radio. I might even buy another one to get me back and forth to work and I'm in my 40's.
Favorite Features
This is a great looking car from the outside that has great room inside.
Suggested Improvements
Offer more color choices.

Cannot Find a Better Value
Vehicle
2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 4A)
Review
I have had my xA for eleven months. You cannot find a better value. For the standard price I got an engine with variable valve timing, automatic transmission, anti-lock brakes, side airbags, air conditioning, power steering, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, rear wiper, rear defroster, a tachometer, a Pioneer radio/CD player and 6 speakers with controls on the steering wheel, a 60/40- split-folding rear seat, first aid kit, etc. Checkout Edmunds.com's True Cost to Own and note the five year depreciation compared to other cars. I have maintained gas records. The worst tank mileage was 26.32, the best 36.71, average for 39 fill ups: 30.51 mpg.
Favorite Features
It's fun to drive and it is an excellent value.

Scion xA
Vehicle
2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 5M)
Review
This car is a blast to drive, with the 5-speed manual I am getting 36 mpg in the city. It handles the corners great and has outstanding acceleration.
Favorite Features
It has a spacious interior for a compact, and the exterior design is streamlined. The options that are available for personalization make the car a joy to own.
Suggested Improvements
Add the cup holders. There has to be a better way to position the cup holders, any drink larger that 12 oz actually interferes with storage and shifting.

Great Little Ride
Vehicle
2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 5M)
Review
This little car car has a smooth comfortable ride and its maneuverability is great. It's tiny and cute outside, but has plenty of room for adult passengers in the front and back inside. Its large window area makes for really good view out of rear when backing. Driving the xA is a joy!
Favorite Features
I especially like the comfortable seats and very good ride along with the nice tight, but easy steering. The big windows make backing up a breeze and I LOVE the roomy interior and higher head room. I love the power windows and power door locks as standard. This car is so cute and only takes ten minutes to wash!
Suggested Improvements
Move the instrument panel to in front of the driver. It's not ergonomic when centered. Move the mileage meter on top and the trip to the bottom. The textured dash is hard to dust off as is the nylon-y seat material. The engine noise when going 70 mph keeps me checking that I haven't left it in 4th gear. Quiet that engine!

Good Deal for an Inexpensive Car
Vehicle
2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 5M)
Review
This car is solid for an economy car. It handles extremely well, and the gas mileage is good. I drive mostly interstate miles, and I am getting between 34-35 MPG with the 5-speed manual transmission. The front seating is comfortable, the back seat is adequate, but not for longer trips. The extras that come as standard equipment (stereo, ABS, AC, etc.) really make this an outstanding deal. The only negative - it is a bit loud at interstate speeds, the engine is pushing 3,500 RPM at 70 mph.
Favorite Features
The great stereo and very good handling for a small car.
Suggested Improvements
A six speed transmission would be good - an overdrive for interstate cruising would help.

Needs Another Gear
Vehicle
2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 5M)
Review
The Scion xA needs another gear, other than that, I like it. I still get 32-34 MPG at 75 mph, but it could use a little overdrive. The AC compressor seized up and burned up the belt. That shouldn't happen in a year-old car.

Love It!
Vehicle
2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 5M)
Review
I really like getting behind the wheel of my '06 Scion xA. I have to get used to the front wheel drive. The only thing that I am missing is there is no space for beverage containers and no cruise control. The fuel mileage is very, very good.
Favorite Features
The radio controls on the steering wheel and the way the Scion xA handles in the mountains.
Suggested Improvements
Add cruise control and somehow make room for more beverage containers.

Scion xA, Purchased Recently
Vehicle
2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 5M)
Review
This car is fine. I got used to the center pod dashboard quickly. The ONLY thing I could wish for, would be a 6th gear. At 80 mph, with a 5-speed manual, the engine is turning 4,000 RPM. That's fine, it has a 7,000 RPM redline, but there's no need to spin it so fast. There is no need to downshift on the highway. I drive in commuter traffic, 75-80 mph. In mixed driving, I get around 35 mpg.
Favorite Features
The 5-speed shifts nicely and the package handles nicely. The brakes are fine without antilock.
Suggested Improvements
Give it a 6-speed manual, or taller gearing (reduce engine RPM in top gear), for better gas mileage.
