I love this car!!
Vehicle
2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 4A)
Review
I bought mine in 02/2006, and as of 10/2007, I've put 42,000 miles on it. I love my xA. I have it decorated and always get looks and nice comments. It's been cross-country several times, and it's perfect for a 3 to 4 week roadtrip for 2 of us. The front is very roomy, though the backseat can get tight for adults. With rear seats folded down, the cargo space is huge. I get 32 to 34 mpg, doing lots of highway driving, but frankly, it can vary wildly depending on the quality of gas. I once got 10% ethanol in Illinois, and only got 26 mpg on that tank, but that's very unusual. I'm bummed that they've discontinued the xA in favor of the xD. I was planning on buying another xA in a couple years.
Favorite Features
The look, the handling, the space. I love how high you sit, considering it's a small, zippy car. Fantastic stereo system, great layout for the entire console. Easy to park. A/C works well. Eye-catching.
Suggested Improvements
The OEM tires were awful - lots of slipping and hydroplaning. Buying it again, I'd get the stick shift because it doesn't always shift when it should. Could use rear-intermittent wipers. The blind spots take a bit of getting used to, but I haven't personally found them to be problematic.

Warning for Scion xA Buyers!
Vehicle
2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 5M)
Review
I just paid $707.00 for repairs to the air vac system because I was told that "topping it off" can cause gas and air flow problems. I do not top my gas tank off. I may round off to the nearest 10, but I do not top off. My car has only 51,000 miles. I am 53 years old. My contention is if this is a problem with all Toyotas as I was told at the dealership, then a disclosure from Scion/Toyota should be made available and placed on the gas cap or sun visor or the warranty manual - somewhere. Buyers beware!! I am writing to the CEO and President of Scion as well.
Favorite Features
Good gas mileage, but my 1991 Toyota Tercel and 1988 Honda Civic were better.
Suggested Improvements
Put disclosure about "topping gas tank off" and possibly creating $700.00 in repairs! This is nonsense. More reason to go solar and hydrogen and get away from this ridiculous gas engine and air flow and computer sensors.

Love the xA
Vehicle
2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 4A)
Review
I wasn't sure about the xA when we first looked at it since it was so small. Worried about lack of trunk space and comfort with 4 people. Wife loved the look and feel. Once we got it home, I started driving it instead of my Toyota Camry! It's really fun to drive, the car really does have enough room for 4 to be comfortable. "Trunk space" good enough for groceries, no problems with space in any situation so far. A comment on previous posts about gas mileage. The sticker mileage is EPA rated and is always at least a few MPG higher than what you actually get. We have auto transmission which has overdrive button, tachs about 2700 at 65 mph, helps reduce engine noise and improve MPG.
Favorite Features
Peppy, fun to drive, iPod connection, good sound from stereo. Good gas mileage. Small, easy to park. So far (10 months) reliable. Like console in the center, didn't take too long to get used to this.
Suggested Improvements
A little more storage space up front would be good, maybe larger glove compartment. Will look into xB center console one post talked about.

Better than the minivan for gas!

2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 4A)
Review
The great thing about this car was that it had a lot of features for the small price. I read in this review how many are able to get great gas mileage but unfortunately I am not really able to come close to many of these. For example, just city driving alone I get 25-26 mpg. When I make 1 freeway trip at least once a week, that will jump to 29-30 mpg, so I know the potential is there for greater mpg. Now, even with its "low" mpg, it's still a great car. I am almost 200 lbs, plus the local street I take to work, you really can't "take it easy" with the gas otherwise you could get a lot of people mad at you. So it is with semi- to aggressive driving that I get this mpg.
Favorite Features
Sound system, low price, safety features, and small size to squeeze into those tough parking spots.
Suggested Improvements
Auto needs 5-speeds just like the Honda Fit.

Great but

Review
Great purchase, fun little car, perfect for urban driving with one major exception: the rear port windows absolutely cause blind spot issues when driving. It's so bad that we're not purchasing another Scion or any other small car until we test those next time, and this is a hazardous design flaw that while under the best of situations is annoying, under the worst??
Favorite Features
The iPod connectivity through the dash, electric mirrors, nice basic sound system with steering mounted controls. Handles well,

Blind spot portholes.

Scion xA
Vehicle
2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 4A)
Review
I have owned my Scion xA for only a few months and I love it. It some time gets more mileage than what they say so I think you can imagine how much I like it.
Favorite Features
The fact that I don't have everything in my face, like the speedometer, fuel gauge. It's a lot easier having them in the center of the dash than to have them right in front of you.
Suggested Improvements
It needs to have some more arm and leg room, as in an arm rest in the middle for both seats. Also needs to be more room between the back seat and the front seat. A baby seat back there touches both of the front seats when placed in the center of the car. The trunk needs more room.

Great ride but.....

2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 5M)
Review
My Scion xA rides/handles great. Seat very comfortable for my 5'7". O/S it's so CUTE too! However, high engine noise on highway makes me want to shift to 5th gear but I'm IN 5th!! Not smooth shifting either. Center speedometer?? Think again. Scion inside material (only choice) black makes the cars (roomy for a little car) interior feel suffocatingly small. Interior textures hard to clean too! My 02 Ford Focus's grey interior feels SO much bigger, cleaner and is easier to clean !! 06 xA's cup holder wont hold a coffee cup. No handle cutout so sits at an angle, sloshing. Sorry!
Favorite Features
06 handling and seating feel great for me. Car so CUTE!! I like stereo's "mute" button, also channel and sound buttons on the steering wheel. Seats fold down so easily. Good rear viewing when backing up but large blank gap in rear and side view mirror area when pulling out to pass... dangerous!
Suggested Improvements
Fix that blank area for passing! Really a problem!! Quiet engine noise. Smooth out that manual shifter. Lighter color and smoother texture interior. Put cutout in cup holder Move speedometer to left. Drop oil change counter. Make the volume button, volume ONLY. The rest keep!

Sciontology!

2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 5M)
Review
After 18 months of ownership, this car still pleases and rewards on a daily basis. Gas mileage is a rock solid 35 in town and 40.5 on the highway. It's nimble, quiet and can take on almost any parking space. Seats are supportive. Driving position is upright and commanding. Radio sound quality is great. And with the optional side-curtain airbags and ABS, I have a measure of security.
Favorite Features
It still gets second glances.

We love our xA
Vehicle
2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 5M)
Review
Have approximately 2000 miles so far. Primarily used on the highway at 65-75 mph. Vehicle tacs between 3300-3700 rpm at those speeds but still rides quiet and smooth. A 6th gear would be great. Vehicle handles sweet. Very much please with all aspects so far. Highway/city mpg combined average nets us 36-39, just what I wanted. I know on a long road trip (mostly highway) I will exceed 40 mpg. Stereo and standard pw and doorlocks are great. For the price Scion had more options than the 4dr Yaris. Very pleased again with our decision. Had to minimize the gas and oil companies impact on my wallet. It is just transportation to and from work. Time for all to change!
Favorite Features
Gas mileage. Fits into any parking spot. Zipping around. Smooth and quiet ride. Smoother than my 02 tacoma and quieter ride that our 99 Astro. Wife just calls it her cute little car. She loves it also.
Suggested Improvements
Sixth gear would probably increase gas mileage into the 50-55 mpg or better. I do understand it would have a bogging effect if in cruise and only tacing 2200 rpm, but if on the open highway with no hills this vehicle would handly compete withthe hybrid. I will be installing an armrest.

One Word - AWESOME!
Vehicle
2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 4A)
Review
Purchased this vehicle in March 07 with 26000 miles on it. Got a great deal! At first was a little skeptical about spacing, moving down from a Toyota Matrix, but now we love it. My wife and I carry stuff all the time and that does not hinder its performance. Gas mileage is not as rated, but great anyway. Toyota hit it right on the money when they designed this line. This car is awesome in every way. Roomy interior, comfortable seats, best stock sound system I have heard in a vehicle. This car can handle anything and I have the most fun driving it of any other vehicle.
Favorite Features
Audio system, great gas mileage, doesn't falter any with 2 people and being fully loaded, build quality of vehicle, fold down seats, center gauges, rear wiper, turn signals on side and in mirrors, can't put it all here.
Suggested Improvements
More storage space, maybe a standard or upgradeable center console. Getting a little closer to window sticker ratings.
