2013 Scion FR-S 2dr Coupe (2.0L 4cyl 6M)
The FR-S rewards focused driving. Though it is easy to drive at low speeds and in the city, it really comes alive when you push it along windy roads and at high speed. It is simply the most solid, capable car I have ever driven. If you just want to look good, accelerate quickly and tour around - this isn't the car for you.
I also like its small environmental footprint and ultra-sophisticated engineering where it counts. This car has a bleeding edge fuel system, a high performance, but ultra-reliable engine and Toyota/Subaru quality.
It is small and lightweight. If you drive thoughtfully, the mileage is about 26 City and 36 highway - much higher than EPA's estimate.
Great engine, good transmission. Very comfortable seats even for big and tall guys.
Well-dampened, but "active" suspension. Great forward visibility. Very stable and aerodynamic on the highway. Reasonably quiet too.
Better center console. More interior storage.
Adjustable seat belt linkage.
Previous cars of mine included the front-wheel drive Acura Integra and RSX. Both cars were nearly identical to the FR-S in size and weight.
Compared with those two cars, the FR-S offers better balance, but less space and a less-smooth automatic transmission. Although the FR-S ride is busier, it's ride never becomes unpleasant, unlike my Acuras.
The FR-S seats are extremely comfortable. After 1.5 years, I am still very happy with my FR-S. I find it very stimulating to drive.
I'd like to hear what other cars a reviewer has owned or driven as it's helpful to put things in context. As an example, I went from a 4X Wrangler to a small 2 door sports coupe.
I suppose one won't go get one of these without doing some comparitive test drives yet it's difficult to find cars like this at entry level prices. I'm not sure what competes in the low 20's as per racer looking sports coupe. Maybe that's the rub -- no competition.
