I DROVE MY SATURN TO THE STORE & WHEN I WENT TO LEAVE, MY KEY WON'T TURN. WE'VE WIGGLED & WIGGLED, TRIED SPARE KEYS & WIGGLED SOME MORE. ALSO, SPRAYED WD-40 TO FLUSH IT OUT & TRIED AGAIN.. STILL THE KEY WILL NOT TURN. IT'S NOT STUCK. IT GOES IN & OUT EASILY, JUST WILL NOT TURN, SO I CAN'T CRANK MY CAR. ANYONE HAVE ANY LUCK GETTING THIS FIXED?

Just wondering why you are going to a dealer to have the starting problem fixed? A large portion of this thread has stated that the dealer will most likely charge you $125-150 for diagnostic test before they even touch your car. I had mine repaired by my own mechanic who , by the way, did replace the switch with a genuine GM part for a total cost parts and labor and ... Read More

I have to go to Detroit to take my mothers Saturn Ion into the dealer in a few weeks. I am glide to have come across this site. Her car has been doing this turn the key don't start for ten minutes stuff intermittently for two years-worse in the winter.

I did go back to the dealer of the saturn ion lvl 2 and he was more than willing to replace the ignition switch but not the pw mirrors, hmmm. If I was a businessman I take care of my customers needs. Sarah, thanks for your message. So far so good but I am really bothered that the dealership charged me $120 for a diagnostic test that revealed nothing and THEN tested the replacement battery which they said was bad. I just got laid off so $120 isn't pocket money, plus I don't trust a dealership that won't do anything else before charging you $120 for a diagnostic.

Saturn tech - my '04 ion wouldn't restart Saturday after I tried restarting it almost immediately after pulling it into the garage. We've changed out the battery and draws it down in 2 hours. Yet, GM has not come thru with a corrective repair procedure, nor even issued any recommendations other than tow the vehicle to a GM dealer for diagnostic tests ... The white wire fix as mentioned also sets off a light on the dash that can get you failed on smog and other inspections. That's mentioned in one of the "how to" videos on You Tube as well. There is a Passlock "bypass" kit available that I read about in this very Edmund's thread that is sold by car stereo outfits that's been used with some success .

You better hurry up getting to a gm dealer ... the window is less than ten, yes ten minutes and the car may start and the dealer cannot trace the problem. You need to have the ignition switch replaced the first bulletines we got at the saturn dealer for the no starts said the no start is worse at temps of 40 degrees or less.I would just replace the ignition switch if it was my car.I know the auto zone ignition switch is made by wells and has a lifetime warranty.

Don't think your key-chain weight has anything to do with damaging the locking cylinder - most likely you have a too soft key, metal shavings stick to the tumblers. Have the cylinder changed, and do get a new key (stop using the original key). Cut The White Wire!
I have a 2006 Saturn Ion-2 2.2L Ecotec with the same Passlock problem, it kept getting worse and worse. My roommate stumbled across this forum. I just cut the white wire (I didn't remove the airbag fuse -- with no ill effects) last Saturday (1/8/11) and I have had no problems since. Whoever figured that one out, I owe you a beer!

You should do more research on the Saturn Ion. Saturn is a very different company from when they made the S-series. Also there is a replacement for the Ion coming soon which looks more promising thant the current model.

I wonder if the 2006 upgrades will fix the crash test scores? I heard the Ion will be getting a 2.4L option, an ipod jack and a Saturn Aura front end next year. Maybe they will add some reinforcements to the sides.
