    I DROVE MY SATURN TO THE STORE & WHEN I WENT TO LEAVE, MY KEY WON'T TURN. WE'VE WIGGLED & WIGGLED, TRIED SPARE KEYS & WIGGLED SOME MORE. ALSO, SPRAYED WD-40 TO FLUSH IT OUT & TRIED AGAIN..     Just wondering why you are going to a dealer to have the starting problem fixed? A large portion of this thread has stated that the dealer will most likely charge you $125-150 for diagnostic test before they even touch your car.     I have to go to Detroit to take my mothers Saturn Ion into the dealer in a few weeks. I am glide to have come across this site. Her car has been doing this turn the key don't start for ten minutes stuff intermittently for two years-worse in the winter.

    Sarah, thanks for your message. So far so good but I am really bothered that the dealership charged me $120 for a diagnostic test that revealed nothing and THEN tested the replacement battery which they said was bad. I just got laid off so $120 isn't pocket money, plus I don't trust a dealership that won't do anything else before charging you $120 for a diagnostic.

    The white wire fix as mentioned also sets off a light on the dash that can get you failed on smog and other inspections. That's mentioned in one of the "how to" videos on You Tube as well. There is a Passlock "bypass" kit available that I read about in this very Edmund's thread that is sold by car stereo outfits that's been used with some success .

    You need to have the ignition switch replaced the first bulletines we got at the saturn dealer for the no starts said the no start is worse at temps of 40 degrees or less.I would just replace the ignition switch if it was my car.I know the auto zone ignition switch is made by wells and has a lifetime warranty.

    Read my post below!! I had the exact same problem. Class action lawsuit will need to be created. This is ridiculous!! I got stranded with my newborn in Winter!!!     Don't think your key-chain weight has anything to do with damaging the locking cylinder - most likely you have a too soft key, metal shavings stick to the tumblers. Have the cylinder changed, and do get a new key (stop using the original key).     I have a 2006 Saturn Ion-2 2.2L Ecotec with the same Passlock problem, it kept getting worse and worse. My roommate stumbled across this forum. I just cut the white wire (I didn't remove the airbag fuse -- with no ill effects) last Saturday (1/8/11) and I have had no problems since. Whoever figured that one out, I owe you a beer!
