After going back and reading all of the posts, it seems that I should have bought the ignition switch (part that is installed in the steering column on the opposite side of where your key goes). One thing for sure - It is NOT a battery problem - Many owners have been taken by dealers and service centers. Furthermore, it is NOT a problem caused by the climate. As far as your starting concern it needs a ignition switch amazon has a ac delco one for like 23. I have had the same problem too!!! Just yesterday I try to turn the key to kill the engine and it wouldn't turn! I wasn't freaking out. I finally had to leave work and drive it to my local mechanic and after looking at it, he told me I have to replace the ignition system in the steering column...something like that. No, I haven't contacted GM Customer Assistance. Is that something you suggest? How do I do that? Also, since I posted, when the dealership was installing the new Body Control Module, they discovered that the fuse box was almost completely burned out and had to order the part from Michigan. $300 more so we're up to a total of about $1300. I'm in Canada so have to deal with the Saturn Canada crowd and, while they sound helpful, haven't come up with a solution. i have a 2004 ION 2.it was fine until it got cold. its not under warranty and i bet its the ignition sitch. i was just wondering if saturn ever reimbursed your money?? And after you replaced it was your car fine?

Yes, I am out of warranty also. Someone told me that since Saturn wasn't going to take care of me to go to the local fix it shop and they would be cheaper. Still think Saturn should pay!!!

I posted it before incorrectly as an engine shut down, however I drove it and it happened, it has taken place while my wife drove it before; the power steering pump shut or stopped working. Although I can't speak for any 04 IONs, we bought a 2003 Saturn ION 2 with automatic transmission new in 2003 and we love it. We put almost 78,000 miles on it. Have had no major problems but have performed routine maintenance. Did replace the tires at 65,000 miles (Costco's great for tires). sorry to say that it doesnt get better. I own a 06 ion and have had it in the service department for the starting problem almost every month since my odometer reached 7400 miles. This sounds like the same problem I had with my daughter's 2004 ION 2. See my message in the forum Saturn Problems & Solutions #793 for a description of what worked for me. If you perform the repair, you will need to use the relearn procedure for the passlock system described in Saturn Problems & Solutions #797 Hope this helps to save you a few bucks.

The dealership insists that I bring the car in for diagnosis so they can charge me $100 for the repair.
