Review

Bought the fully loaded version. Absolutely love this car, particularly on long highway drives. Effortless power and great passing ability. Great value for the money. Very classy and sporty at the same time. My wife wants to trade cars with me. No deal.

Favorite Features

Love those 18 inch wheels, classy looking interior. Electronic stability control. Handles nicely on corners at speed.

Suggested Improvements

The power driver seat would benefit from having two memory positions. It is a pain to reset the seat after my much shorter wife has been driving my car. The front passenger seat would benefit from lumbar support and an overhead handle to help passengers exit the car.

For the money cannot beat

Review

I bought my XR new. went to buy a BMW 328i and left with the Aura. I love almost everything about the car including, XM radio, OnStar, sunroof, rear audio system and quality leather. My biggest 2 complaints are the 6 speed auto needs to be reprogrammed as sometimes it takes too much effort to downshift. Second the mixed gas mileage is terrible. 16-17 mpg in mixed driving. However, if you look at the price verse what you get overall it is the best sedan on the market. I would recommend.

Aura Design/Build Defect ( ??? )

Review

I am revising my earlier review of a 9.0 overall rating. My XR underdoor rocker panels (plastic) are beginning to pull away from the car body (steel) creating a 1/4 inch gap and exposing the rocker panel fasteners. Dealer had no fix and said it could be a build, vibration, or design problem. Problem began to occur at about 3,000 miles. What will these panels look like at 30,000 miles ? Anyone else have this problem?

Favorite Features

Great car aside from the separating rocker panels. Fun to drive.

Suggested Improvements

Fix or redesign underdoor rocker panels. Add Gear Shift Position display to instrument panel. Improve gas mileage.

Mixed bag - some outstanding parts

Review

It is a powerful, smooth, great- handling sedan with great performance. It is rock-solid and very quiet inside. The interior design is very attractive, although it becomes bland as you live with it. The comfort of the front seats and the quality of the interior materials is lacking, especially the cheap plasticky center console. I keep expecting it to just break off its mounts. The seats also seem to have a certain amount of unpleasant rocking on thier base -makes car feel cheap. Sound system is excellent. Exterior styling is nicely upscale, and I like my massive rims.

Favorite Features

The best seat heaters of any car we've owned, excellent sound system, powerful smooth engine/transmission combo, exterior styling

Suggested Improvements

GM - learn to assemble a car. The panels on this car (hood, trunk, tailights, bumpers) are out of alignment. The dashboard was installed crooked, and the right rear pax door trim is misaligned, scraping the surrounding trim. Middle vent in dash is very annoying - it always blows.

Not Bad for the Money

Review

The one reason I bought this car was because for the price you cannot buy a car with this kind of HP, fuel economy and reliability. If you're looking for a car that has a good drivetrain for little money than you're good. If you're looking for sophistication or quality design than look elsewhere.

The interior is terrible. The door panels are complete garbage and most of the panels don't line up with <5mm. The exterior is mediocre and you can see where some of the trim doesn't line up well and some of the plastic finish is crude.

Great Car. Very Poor Mileage

Review

I did a review right after we had bought this car. Basically, it said that the car was great. Now that I have had the car for over a month, I am revisiting my review. The mileage on this car stinks. In city drive (basically home to grocery storer, etc.), the car gives 17 miles to a gallon. That is less than the 10 year old Mercedes E320 that I had (18 miles to a gallon) and less than the 10 year old Toyota 4 Runner that I have (18 miles/gallon for a V6). I don't know what GM is thinking, making a supposedly state of the art car with a mileage less than current day SUV's. I guess one reason is that the car weighs a bunch (it is heavier than the Toyota 4 Runner and almost the same as an E320)

Favorite Features

Drive. Looks. Price.

Suggested Improvements

Mileage. Turning radius. Brakes. Cheap plastic on doors, dashboard, interior light switch. Really need to juggle with the accelerator to make the car downshift and go.

Review

This is a great looking car and so many people don't recognize it so they ask. The car is extremely quiet and rides like a luxury car. It is heavier than the competition but that weight makes it feel substantial on the road. Considering its features a comparable Altima or Camry would be over $30k and neither is as rare or as good looking as this car. The controls are all logically placed and the stereo is top notch for this class. If you don't want to be a follower and want a fast family sedan that stands out this is a good choice.

Favorite Features

Stereo system, XM radio, trip computer, remote start, 18" wheels, LED interior lighting, quietness, ride quality, steering feel, tapshift and engine power.

Suggested Improvements

Add rear armrest, make map pockets deeper, make trunk open farther when released and improve armrest materials.

Best performance sedan for your dollar

Review

I bought my Saturn XR with 5000 miles on it, but it was in 100% perfect condition. It has features I would only expect on much more expensive cars, like electronic traction and ride stability control. It has a six speed automatic with paddle shifting on the steering wheel, which is fantastic for mountain driving. This car accelorates better than a 328, corners better than an Altama, and rides better than a Camry. Surprise is that it costs so much less than any of them. There is just to much to talk about here, let me just say that if you want performance, looks and ride like a $35K car and you like German auto engineering, but don't want to spend over $27K, then the Saturn XR is for you.

Favorite Features

My favorite feature wouyld have to be hte paddle shifters for the 6 speed transmission. I put the shifter in manual mode when I drive in the mountains. This lets me drop to 5th on slight grades and 4th on the steeper ones without having to mash the throttle going uphill or ride the brakes downhill.

Suggested Improvements

1. Change the programming on the transmissions manual mode for quickewr response. I want it to shift when I tap the paddle, not 1/2 to 1 second later. 2. Pop the trunk open when the release is dressed, this 1/2 inch it moves is bunk. 3. Delete the requirement for a sun roof with the leather interior

I think this is a good car. It is fun to drive, has great performance, good 0 to 60. Love that it is a 3.5 engine standard

Buying American (GM) again

Review

This car exceeded my expectations. It is quiet, smooth, comfortable. I traded a 2007 Camry LE which I came to dislike for several reasons (pitch & bob ride, engine that either hestitated or was too sensitive, really cheap center dash). The test drive convinced me to get the Aura. I also have a 2007 Mercedes S550 and the Aura compares favorably with it, too. GM got this one right. Cars like this will keep me in the GM fold from now on.

3.6L V6; 6-speed auto; interior controls, layout & quality of materials; roomy trunk; OnStar; XM radio; styling; handling; quiet ride.

Suggested Improvements

Keylock trunk; larger storage bins; larger trunk opening; rearseat armrest; gear indicator in instrument panel.
