Bought a new 2007 Saturn Aura in April of 07. Worked fine for a couple years. Suddenly this summer it started acting up and seems to be getting worst. Traction control and other warning lights will come on and off. This started in July. Took to dealer could not find any problems. A month later car would not start. Took it back in they told me my alternator was shot. Replaced ... Read More

Christina: Still waiting to hear from GM Customer service about my 2007 Saturn Aura's air bag problem/repair :( We had it repaired because we plan to take it on a long trip soon. This issue should constitute a recall. Where is the list of recalls on this model? 2catshouse
Christina- I hope you can help. Because of our safety concerns regarding the air bag issue affecting our 2007 Saturn Aura, we went to Gordon Chevrolet in Augusta Georgia and had replacement of the PPS sensor Module and re-programming performed. Cost was $890.13 to us. I feel that we should not have to bear the cost of repairing such a basic safety flaw. I read online of numerous other Saturn Aura ... Read More

Our 2007 Aura has had an ongoing issue with passenger airbag. At first, "service air bag" readout appeared at 51,673 miles. We took car to dealership and they "calibrated" air bag and charged us 90.00. Since then, passenger air bag reads "off" periodically and for no apparent reason, while car is being driven. Has been calibrated at least twice and we now are told by Chevrolet dealership Saturn mechanic that a ... Read More
Wow.. Christina at SocialmediaGM.com reviewed my posting (unknown to me) concerning the steering malfunction and worked with GM to allow me to fix the problems thru the dealer with a $500 max bill (deductable). The gears were shot, which seems strange ... Read More

BY the way, this problem is common to all 2007 and 2008 Auras. The Chevy Malibu which is manufactured at the same factory and considered to be the Saturn Aura's twin apparentl solved this problem by covering the defect area with some sort of plastic or aluminium piece that hides the separations.
Yes, I see what you mean and you are right..........recutting the plastic rocker panels to fit the contours of the body would probably eliminate the problem. However, I think what's breaking the panels loose is the fact that the lower rubber gasket on the door is constantly striking the flimsy, plastic panel and sooner or later causes it to break loose. There goes the resale value of these cars !!
I looked at your pictures. Look at mine. The problem looks to me, from the illuminated from behind picture, is the body panels are miss dented, not the plastic rocker panel. So I see why they don't want to fix it, that would require some body work, pounding out the dents, repainting etc. It would also require that they correct the manufacturing cause of the dents, which could cost millions. Looks ... Read More

Thanks for your informative comments. I guess the person that drives the car onto the showroom floor drives very recklessly; because it can be seen on new 2008 cars that have not yet been on the road !!! The Saturn Area Manager that was supposed to be handling my case also attempted to infer in a letter to me that abuse of the car could be considered a cause.
That is not needed. I thought everyone would be interested that when I brought this defect concern up to the Saturn dealer they claimed it was caused by reckless driving....I found this pretty pathetic. I basically advised them that they needed to put in wirting that there warranty would cover this defect. In an indirect way they basically told me no and wished me luck on my new car search. I ... I suggested an even simpler fix. Cover the area where the rocker panel meets the steel body with a piece of black rubber door gasket cemented to both the panel and the body. No need to develop any thing new or even repaint and the fix would probably cost less than $5.00. You wouldn't even need a recall - affected cars could be repaired as they came in for routine service. ... Read More
No one noticed any problem with the Cruise Control sensors on Ford vehicles either.........until they spontaneously erupted in numerous fires. I was considering the 2008 Aura and have to be honest that this scares me as a potential buyer. There is no guarantee this issue may not cause other used car buyers to shy away in the future. Saturn seems to selling much better lately. Please note below the February sales figures from the official GM website: Saturn is up 59.4% year-to-year, and the total sales actually exceeded Buick and Cadillac, while very nearly matching Pontiac. I assume that is using 2007 standards so the real mileage is likely to be 26/32 or so.
